Came here for the first time a few weeks ago and while there wasn't much because it was soon to be closing time, what we did have was delicious! We bought and assortment of their Italian cookies and they were delicious. Their donuts were out of this world fresh and delicious! They were also enormous. Why this place isn't getting consistent five stars is a crime. Bakeries in Ocean County are few and far between so when you have one that's close by and they actually make good quality products, be thankful. This is one of those bakeries. Let me start, in no type of order, my favorite things about Waretown Bakery..... The cinnamon croissants are UN-BEL-EE-VABLE. So good. So fresh. You've gotta get there early though cause they go fast! They also have plain and chocolate ones. I've only bought the cinnamon ones. Another good item here is the danish ring. OMG! There is cheese in there somewhere but not big blobs of it. Soft and the icing is finger licking! I get it on the regs when I need to take something to a breakfast or brunch get together. And it gets raved over! Every. Time. The donuts are old fashioned dough type ones. Not the cake based ones and im happy about that! I will tell you that the Bavarian creme, powdered, jelly and glazed are tasty and part of what makes everything better in the world. If you don't get there early you will miss out on the fresh rolls. I take them when visiting friends in other states who are Jersey transplants. They all say their pork roll isn't the same unless coupled with these rolls. REAL rolls. Finding a bakery in south jersey is difficult as it is, but finding one that is worth going to every weekend is an anomaly. I tried this bakery a few times in the past and wasn't too impressed. Recently I heard a bunch of stories about this place changing owners multiple times so I decided to give it another shot. I'm glad I did because this is our new favorite breakfast spot. My best of advice is to get here early, AND I MEAN EARLY! The owners are on site every day baking the good from scratch. Come too late and you risk getting the bottom of the barrel. We usually get a variety of things such as the croissants, blueberry muffins, strawberry cream cheese strudels, cinnamon twists, danishes, and lemon coconut pastries. Every single selection yields a different texture and flavor profile that is out of this world. The croissants are crispy on the outside but fluffy on the inside. The strawberry cream cheese strudel is the perfect balance of sweet and tang. The cinnamon twists are a softer sweet version of the croissants. The lemon coconut pastries are bitter nutty and everything in between. Everything here has the right balance the right texture and I haven't eaten anything I didn't like. If you live remotely close to this place and haven't gone there I suggest you check it out ASAP. read more

In 2017, I was disappointed after a few bad experiences here. In the last year, I noticed quite a bit of traffic going in and out, so I stopped in and learned they have since switched ownership. I have been three times, and am happy to say that Waretown once again boasts a good, old fashioned bakery. The pastries are fresh, the proprietors are welcoming and polite, and the prices are unbeatable. This is pretty much the only place left in Southern Ocean County where you can find classic donuts (not the crazy, overly sugary, deep fried ones with cereal pasted over them). Ordered my daughters birthday cake white on white on white. Yes all vanilla with boston cream and it may sound boring but it was delicious!! We refrigerated it after the first time we had it and enjoyed it just as fresh as the first day for 4 days. I would not hesitate to order a cake from this bakery. The absolute worst crumb buns ever at 10am on. Sunday morning there were 3 crumb buns left and they were disgusting so stale. And need so expensive!!! read more

Ordered (a week ahead of time) a Strawberry Shortcake with strawberries covering the outside of the cake. Upon picking up the cake, there were no strawberries covering the Strawberry Shortcake like I had ordered, instead there were flowers. I asked for them to correct the cake to which they responded that they couldn't because the strawberries never got delivered that morning. So instead of going out to the grocery store to supplement their lack of strawberries, they just put flowers on it and hoped I'd be ok with it. Instead, I was refunded the $10 that the strawberries would've cost. So a $45 Strawberry Shortcake and I had to go to ShopRite and buy my own strawberries. Poor customer service. No attempt @ problem solving. Cake was mediocre. The strawberries I had to purchase and the fresh whipped cream I made outshined the cake itself. There were strawberries on the inside, but minimal. I probably would've gotten a better cake from ShopRite read more

As others have mentioned the jelly donuts are absolutely terrific and their hard roles are very good. Both are worth a return trip to the Waretown Bakery. Unfortunately the crumb buns were dry and virtually unedible and the large blueberry crumb pie was loaded with crumbs that you could crack a tooth on if not careful. Will be back... eventually if only for the jelly donuts and hard rolls. read more

Jus got a small cake today chocolate chocolate. It was gross the icing was gritty from the sugar. The cake was stale. The icing litterally hurt my teeth is had that much sugar. The donuts sucked and the crumb cake had no flavor. I'll never go back. read more

This is a good bakery with lots to choose from. The chocolate cake we got was fresh and delicious. Every bakery I go to I always pick up old fashioned black and white cookies. They are getting harder to find these days and even harder still is finding a place that makes them right, well the black and whites from here are amazing. Reminded me of the old days in North Jersey. I will be back for sure. I believe the people that work here are all family and they are very friendly and seem to really appreciate your business, something else that is hard to find these days. The only reason I didn't give them five stars is because I have only tried a few things so far but I will back there soon and I'll update then. read more

I used to drive by this place all the time without ever stopping in. It is small and I often couldn't tell if it was closed or open and I was generally wary. But I took the plunge one day and I was happy for it. Decor: It's a bakery. Simple enough with a large selection. It is never too crowded, but it gets a good, brisk level of business from locals. There are a couple of benches inside and out of the establishment if you want to eat on the premises. Service: Very nice. Very friendly. Mom & pop type feel to it with some local kids to help out. Food: I do like a lot of their offerings, but I admit that it's a bit more hit-and-miss for me than I would have hoped. I love their cheesecakes, for instance--some of the best cheesecakes I've had. Very worth it, though if I had to nit-pick, their cheesecakes are NOT easy to cut into slices if you buy a whole cake. It seems to "crumble", alas. Still delicious! On the other hand, I found their blueberry pie a little underwhelming. I am a big pie fan and I wasn't super crazy about it. May have to give another of their pies a try. Their doughnuts are pretty good--not exceptional, but still tasty enough. Their cupcakes are okay too, but not as good as their doughnuts. Love their Irish Soda Bread! Also love a concoction of unknown origin--or at least I can't recall the name. It was sort of this walnut-honey-raisin-cinnamon bread sort of thing. Absolutely decadent and delicious. I've tried a bunch of other items, some of which I loved, some of which were just so-so. Nothing is ever bad and maybe the items I don't care for are just an issue of differing palates. Regardless, if you're in the area, it is worth stopping by for they are very good at reasonable prices. BUT BRING CASH--they do NOT accept credit cards (blah!). read more

So sad. I loved the previous owners and their traditional donut. Went in today and the service was so so so slow. They use to have these amazing regular donuts that were fried and dipped in powder sugar. They have something similar but it doesn't come close and tastes like Dunkin' Donuts. I give it two stars because their cost was a little cheaper than before, but yet I rather pay the extra for amazing. Sadly, I won't be returning. Not my favorite bakery. But close enough to stop in for donuts which are very good.

I would think twice before buying anything in this bakery. My husband bought a "fresh baked babka" -their quote-, today,.. He brought it home, as soon as I touched it I knew it was not baked today. The top was hard as a rock, it crumbled when I tried cutting it, I have had a polish grandmother bake fresh babkas, this was not one, it was stale, the Irish soda bread was hard as a rock, it seemed partially frozen. My husband called the bakery and a snippy young girl spoke to him, she told him "he did not know anything about babkas". This is one bakery we will not frequent. the Irish soda bread is going to the seagulls, don't know what to do with the babka, probably throw it out. read more

My husband just picked up a cake a 7" cake that cost us $50. As soon as my husband walked in the door, I looked at the cake. There was white powder and cracks all over the pink fondant. I immediately called the owner and was told, "Well, I don't know how your husband transported the cake home." Well, we had our 17 year old daughter carefully holding the cake for the five minute ride home. I would NEVER, EVER use these incompetent people again. read more
