I remember years ago when I used to crab off the pier sometimes by myself or with family members that the Warming Hut Park Store was a nice little haven to get out of the cold and wind. I walk around this area a lot and thought might as well poke my head in and take a look. What is this place? Well it's a tourist shop. They sell magnets, prints, clothes, journals, figurines. As someone who lives in San Francisco there isn't anything in here I would buy. There is also some drinks and food. However it's in the back of the space so you have to walk to the very back to order, meaning you have to walk through the shop kind of like those airport duty free shops. I looked at the food options and I would not but anything here. I concluded this is not a spot for me. It might be nice if you are a tourist and tired but there is actually a lot of nice food on Chestnut and Union streets. read more

Located at the furthest end that is closest to the Golden Gate Bridge, after you pass Chrissy Field. This shop is also a local and small fishing/crabbing spot on the small dock that is built in front of the gifts store. The store also sells some coffee, cocoa, and tea to help warm you up from the cold winds and fog that can creep up in this area. Good spot for photos too. You can snap tourist shots with either the Golden Gate bridge, Alcatraz, or the SF skyline as a backdrop. My visiting tourist friend and I did the obligatory Golden Gate Bridge photos and then warmed ourselves up with a cup of Chrissy Mocha (half cocoa half coffee) for $4.50. This was my first time ever seeing this little retail store and we usually go to the other side of Chrissy Field beach with our puppies since they can run off leash there. This particular day we walked more onto the left side down 1.5 miles of the beach and found this quite little Pierre with this particular retail store on it. Inside they had a coffee shop with a local vendor and hot chocolate and a quaint little reading nook area with a bunch of retail things anybody would need. I loved all the San Francisco local items. One could buy as little tchotchkes for memorabilia of the San Francisco/Golden Gate Bridge area. We were also able to walk out on the pier and see some people fishing and crabbing. Came here on an incredibly cold and windy afternoon (normal in the city) and my boyfriend and I were in dire need of hot coffees. I was so surprised that there was a little coffee/souvenir shop just past Chrissy fields and so we stopped in for some warmth. We were just about to order coffees when we noticed the "Chrissy Mocha" on the menu and thought we'd give it a try. I haven't stopped thinking about this drink since we got them!! Service was great, the cashier was so friendly and popped a few jokes with us. Our drinks were made in under a minute, they waste no time! The Chrissy Mocha is 1/2 hot chocolate and 1/2 mocha, very creamy and chocolatey - the whipped cream gives it the richness and creamy flavor - must get!! We also picked up a few souvenirs that were very cute, the shop is a cute little stop on the way to seeing the golden gate viewpoint. Highly recommend giving this store a peek if you're able to! This is a cute gift shop right outside the lower section of the Golden Gate Bridge at Fort Point National Historic Site. ITEMS TO BUY (inventory) -- The store has plenty of gift items to choose from and general products such as books, local west coast sweets, snacks (chips, chocolate), fridge magnets, t-shirts, etc. SERVICE -- Service was friendly. My friend and I were immediately greeted by 2 of the female store associates who reminded us that San Francisco gets hot in the summer after we complained of how cold it was that day (haha). The temperature was in the high 40's or low 50's and the fact that the store is literally right next to the ocean didn't help (LOL) but I digress. I was about to purchase something small but my Lyft driver arrived but I had a good experience in here nonetheless. I recommend visiting this store because why not? If you are already in the area then come on down. I was in the area trying to get a good view of the Golden Gate Bridge when I came across this gift shop. It felt good being inside since it was warm compared to the chilly weather outside. I saw a sign that they serve hot drinks but it looked like the cafe was closed. I did come a half an hour before closing so maybe they were already sold out for the day. The gift shop still had a bunch of refrigerated drinks and plenty of snacks. They had one small table and a couple of chairs inside near the entrance. There were lots of books and souvenirs. I was surprised to see that they sold bottled honey and jars of jam, apple butter and sweet & spicy mustard. They didn't have restrooms inside the gift shop but they were located outside next door. read more

After a cold stroll on the beach, I was so happy to step inside and browse through this shop to warm myself up. It is a touristy shop but not the cheesy kind and I feel like they carry more of the high quality stuff. They do sell food here; mostly prepackaged sealed food and snacks. tl;dr - bring your own food to Chrissy Fields, or bring low expectations if you order from here and prepare for possibly bad service and equally bad food. I almost never rate below 3 stars, so this was an exceptionally bad experience that sticks to me until this day. Something about this visit just felt extremely low-key hostile. I go in and wait at the counter. There was a cashier who was puttering around behind it. He seemed to be working alone, and I don't like rushing servers/clerks so I waited patiently and checked out the items around the counter. What annoyed me was the fact that he knew I was there, but completely ignored me for 10 minutes, didn't greet me or even let me know how long he'll be. We were five feet apart. When he finally came over to take my order, he just commented, "Kept you waiting, didn't I?" Yes, you did, and a quick apology would be nice. Then he looked at the toy poodle I was holding, his whole expression turned icy and contemptuous, and said, "We don't allow dogs in here, you need to take it outside, right now." I was really taken aback. I get that dogs are not legally allowed in food establishments, but in SF this line really gets blurred, and I've seen plenty of people walk in and out of cafes with dogs. In a beachside cafe like this, on a sunny day, I assumed (wrongly) that it might be ok to bring my small dog in if I hold him and don't let him down. But whatever, I own up to the fact that I shouldn't have brought him in and that was my fault. I think he could've asked me to take my dog outside respectfully, without shaming me or making me feel like a small child. Was I too sensitive? Maybe. I don't think so though. I try hard to be objective, self-aware, and open to criticism. "We don't allow dogs in here, could you take him outside?" would've been a nicer way to "ask." I worked years in customer service and it's second-nature to me to be respectful even when I disagree with someone. Something about this interaction just felt really off and icky. I wonder if I'd be treated differently if I wasn't a petite WOC. And the cherry on top of this awful cake was - the apple cider was surprisingly bad. It was lukewarm, mildly flavored, and just disappointing. I make better ones at home with my electric kettle and a powder packet from Safeway. A crap experience all around. Unfortunately, this place will probably stay around due to its winning location. read more

Location, location, location! Look, this is a National Park location and not a gourmet coffee shop! So if you are a coffee snub like I am, get your coffee elsewhere before you come walking around here; However, if you are there and need a hot drink to battle the chilly breeze coming off the Bay, the hot coffee drinks or chocolate that they serve here can come to your rescue as there are no other options available within walking distance. Nice small shop at Crissy field. Wanted to enjoy a different view of Golden Gate bridge, tried this spot. Spotted this place and thought it's a coffee shop. On our way back, we stopped here to find out that it's more than a coffee shops. Of course you can find coffee and other refreshments here, but I found this more of a souvenir place. We picked up a few as well. They do have the national park passes as well. Employees are friendly. The checkout is smooth and easy. It's a small place and sometimes it get really crowded as well. We sit near the exit in the seating area. We overhear this conversation a lady is having with an employee asking where the bathrooms were, the employee told her the bathrooms are outside and that she can stay in here a bit longer. Was biking with friends from Crissy Field where people are playing on the beach and flying kites to Fort Point which is directly under the Golden Gate Bridge.  Warming Hut is a great in between spot to break for coffee and snack.  I ordered a Mocha and a Ginger Cookie, both were great. This place is different from a couple of years ago. Maybe they got more visitors and they decided to re-vamp depending on what they sold more of, but it has way more gift type items than food. I had to get up much earlier than usual for our sightseeing day so I needed double shot of espresso for sure! Sister had a mocha with whipped cream, hubby had an ice coffee as usual, the coffee drinks were very delicious and strong at reasonable prices. They had many super cute arts and souvenirs, they were surprisingly very well made, not like some cheap souvenirs out there. I picked a Golden Gate Bridge crystal keychain and a few small local crafts and arts. Sister and I just love souvenir stores everywhere, but we try not to get useless things that will only end up taking spaces at home! So if you get to the bottom of the bridge, make sure walk along the coast to this little pier and park to hang around a bit, the ocean views are so beautiful. Doesn't a Warming Hut sound like you could wrap yourself with your leopard-print Snuggie next to a roaring fire and sip a mug of hot cocoa with six mini-marshmallows floating on top? Sounds nice, doesn't it? Well, that's not the kind of experience you'll get here, dreamer. Snap out of it! (SLAP!) Nope, it's a gift shop and bookstore with a little nosh on the side. No big whoop. It's actually a renovated warehouse from the old army days but in typical California fashion, has been made green-friendly with recycled building materials. Otherwise, it's all about the parks and recreation books, mugs and related merchandise you've seen elsewhere. The hut provides a welcome break after a brisk hike along the coastal trail next to Crissy Field, but hey, it's not like you're at Everest base camp. You can drive right up to it for Pete's sake. If you are famished from that strenuous walk between the parking lot to the front door, there are about a dozen sandwiches, a half-dozen salads, a couple of soup options, designer water, and some sweets to choose from to restore all those calories you burned off putting your emergency brake on. Otherwise, enjoy a breathtaking view of the bridge, show off by bracing the wind toward Fort Point, or really be brave and avoid the flying fish hooks off the battered wooden pier that flanks the hut (see photos). read more

The Warming Hut is exactly what I was looking for when I ended my run along the bay to the Golden Gate Bridge. The "hut" is more of a gift shop of the park conservancy that has a modest cafe inside it. On the brisk and breezy morning it was pleasant to have a place to get out of the elements. The menu isn't too creative or extensive but there's just enough to satisfy nearly anyone. The gift shop is actually more my speed though. We picked up an awesome Golden Gate bridge snow/fog globe that we probably wouldn't have been able to find anywhere elese. The other SF trinkets here also have more character and charm than the stuff you'll find at Pier 39. So take in the breathtaking views of the bay with a warm cup of cocoa from the Warming Hut Cafe. I think it'll be worth the excursion away from the bigger crowds at Fisherman's Wharf. read more

What a cute little cafe/gift shop! I have been to the visitor center up top on several occasions and have walked across the bridge etc. but I didn't know there was a cute little Warming Hut Cafe down below! What a hidden gem full of every possible Golden Gate Bridge gift idea for friends and family back home! The day we were here the shutdown was in effect so the driveway down to the parking area that would have been closest to the Warming Hut was closed. This meant you had to park at the top and take the little hiking path + stairs down. With my injured ankle this was quite a feat, but usually I think there is an ADA accessible way to get down here. Note that it will take 20+ minutes for any drink order you place here as it is a popular spot and the people preparing the food and drinks are sweet but not fast movers! read more

Definitely VERY touristy here. As a local it's always overwhelming to be surrounded by so many kids and so many people who don't understand how lines work (haha). I ordered pastry items here and was pleasantly surprised! I got the morning bun which was crunchy in the right places and soft on the inside. It tasted like it was baked pretty recently which was great. I also ordered the Golden Gate cookie and found that to be yummy too! Not overly sweet which was perfect for my taste. I just had a take out tea (earl gray). I must say the quality of the tea was great and tasty. The cafe/food counter gets pretty busy especially on the weekends. The gift shop sells cute souvenirs so I had to brace myself from buying stuff! The location is nice. You may want to take your out-of-town guests for a walk there. Pros: great tea! Nice gift shop!! Cons: gets busy and you wait in line for a long time. The restroom is located outside and it's a little shack. Not that clean. The restroom gets a lot of traffics too. read more

This is a premier location with thousands of people passing by and visiting the nearby climbing gym and etc. How can there be nowhere along this entire stretch from the Marina to the Warming hut with no food?? The environmental center with the wind turbines (not moving at all by the way), looked deserted, a perfect place for a restaurant or cafe with a spectacular view. Chrissy Fields is one of my favorite places because of its dog friendliness, but I'm baffled that the only little food place that was there is closed. Sigh... I really should have updated this review a couple years ago, because subsequently I had a couple really good experiences here and would have rated it four stars easily. Unfortunately, they've now destroyed what used to be quite a nice little place. The cafe is gone -- no more freshly prepared food. All they serve now is coffee and some packaged snacks. Even the selection of Crissy Field and GGNRA t-shirts seems diminished. I used to like this place, despite occasional missteps, but now I have no reason to ever return. After biking the city with friends this weekend, we stopped in for a quick snack to curve the appetite before dinner. Not that much area's to lock up your bike (only a few bike racks). Pointless to have this place as a bookstore, who's really buying books at this location? They serve little snacks like chips, pastries, nuts, and espresso. But can someone tell me why the employees have a sour attitude. If you hate your job, find a new one. I'm sure someone else with exceptional customer service would love to take your place. Me: "how much is this coconut water?" Staff: *ignore* Me: "uhm hi how much is this coconut water?" Staff: *looks at me. ignore. looks at me again." Me: "how much?" The time is 2:40 p.m. I had just left this establishment. It was not a pleasant experience and needless to say I will not be coming back. I had informed the cashier that I have a sea food allergy. He promptly told me they don't have sea food at their cafe. I paused to look up at the menu and I said "what about the Tuna that is listed on your menu?" Since I am deathly allergic to sea food I thought I should ask. Want to know what his response was? He chuckled and said "oh, I forgot about that." Theres are only three sandwiches on the menu, so I am unsure of how he could forget about this, especially when sea food allergies is kind of a big deal. He then passed me off to his coworker and told her to help me. The chili on the other hand was delicious and made the trip worthwhile for me. They have something called a sriracha hot cocoa, I wasn't brave enough to try it. The place itself is a nice rest spot. Placed just at the feet of the Golden Gate Bridge, this place is a must go for all the tourists who find themselves in the area for lunch time or breakfast. The menu looks very complete, for all the tastes. I particularly put attention at the variety of healthy food they offer. This is perfectly in line with California life style. Everybody looks healthy and fit, therefore dining here would make fitness maniacs happy as well. They even don't sell regular coke. Instead, they sell the Coke Life, the new one without sugar, although I'm still skeptical about the healthiness of any coke product in general. The cashier was particularly funny and wanted to exchange the sandwich I ordered with my DSLR camera. It think it is nice when people working at restaurants try to engage you with funny conversations. They meet a lot of people during the day and they still have energy to smile: I think it is a clear sign of a happy working environment.
