For never having done one it was fun!!! It was so much fun!!! They held it on the dirt bike race park so yes you were running up and down the tracks jumps. Wheewww in others words you do get a work out!! It's $10 for parking and if you want to bring all your gear with you to change into they provide a check bag area! Works out very well that way so you don't have to worry about your keys getting mucked up and have your phone ready for pics!! read more
I meant to write this review a while ago, but I guess later is better than never, so here goes: The Warrior Dash was unpredictable, even with the pre-defined course and its obstacles. Honestly, the only proper way that I would have trained for this event was through military PT. There was barbed wire, haystacks, mud (or so we thought), cargo nets, more haystacks, a slide, and a bunch of other delightful obstacles. Jessica F. and I decided to take the challenge waiting for us, and we succeeded. We have the medals to prove it (and photos). I never knew that the Warrior Dash was as popular until I arrived at the course that Sunday morning. There were LOADS of people waiting to explore what the course had to offer. The race was definitely loads of fun; I think my running shoes nearly got stuck permanently in the mud near a dozen times. There was one thing that got stuck in the mud permanently, however, and that was my time chip. Not only did I not get a free beer, but I did not even get my official results! Due to this, people think me running in the Warrior Dash is much of an urban legend with the likes of the Loch Ness Monster and Bigfoot. Screw them though. The only knock that I have on the event, which Christina A. already covered, was the $10 parking, to pretty much park on the grass with a crowded amount of cars. It was a pain trying to get out once the race was done; I was in the middle of a gang of idle automobiles. The ride two hours home was fun though: especially having to cover the driver seat with all plastic. Would I do it all over again? I think I would, but I would need to train better for preparation. Oh, and bring a lot more socks. read more

My friends and I signed up for the Warrior Dash because there were ads for it all over Facebook. Their website describes the event as "the craziest frickin' day of your life!" and that pretty much sums it up! It's a 3.11 mile run with 11 obstacles along the way, most of them involving mud. The race was held in Mechanicsville, Maryland which is a 2 hour drive from Baltimore. When we pulled up to the event we had to pay $10 to park which kind of sucked. We followed the other runners and found our way to the tents to pick up our packets which contained our bibs, timing chips, t-shirt, and warrior hats/helmets. This area was pretty well organized and I didn't have to wait long at all to get my packet. There were so many people in the area. Everyone was covered in mud. If they weren't covered, then they were about to be. There was a dj playing music and people drinking beer. (The timing chips doubled as a free beer coupon for after the race.) We had about an hour before our race time, so we watched people do some of the obstacles. From the field we could see people climb up rope ladders, jump over fire, and swim through mud under barbed wire. We were getting antsy just watching. It was finally our race time! We packed in at the starting line and an announcer got everyone riled up. After a brief fire show, we were off! The race was on Saturday and Sunday and race slots were at 30 minute intervals. Our time was for 4 pm on Sunday, so the course was well run by the time we started. Unless you were at the front of the race, then you were stuck just walking pretty much the first mile. The first obstacle didn't happen right away and was pretty crowded. This weeded out the runners so the next few obstacles weren't as crowded. The whole course was extremely muddy...my legs and arms were covered in mud within fifteen minutes. The first obstacle was crawling under a 4 foot covered tunnel through the smelliest mud I have ever smelled. Most of the other obstacles after that were a blur. I do remember running over a haystack and then being covered in hay, sliding down a tarp, darting through a "tire jungle', and swimming in a mud pit. At the end of the race, I was given a Warrior Dash medal and I was covered in mud. My friends and I had pretty much stuck together through the race and we all finished within minutes of each other. We took some pictures and then we headed towards the entrance where guys on top of water trucks were hosing people down. We got in line and attempted to clean up a little before the drive home. People were also taking off their sneakers and throwing it in a huge pile that would be recycled and then made into a playground. The race was well organized and a ton of fun. I highly recommend it to anyone that wants a change of pace from the normal 5ks and half-marathons. read more

I loved the warrior dash--it was an adrenaline rush throughout. At the start line, everyone played with a beach ball and did the wave. During the race, people were joking around and very encouraging. I do a lot of races and this was a completely different atmosphere from most road races, where people are more serious and competitive. It would be hard to seriously run this anyway, as you pretty much have to walk during the first mile and there were lines for some of the obstacles. There were a lot of climbing obstacles, sort of an adult playground. There was fire to jump over, and you have to crawl in mud under barbed wire, but it was very safe and no danger of hitting anything. I could easily do all of the obstacles and I'm pretty weak--I run a lot but rarely go to the gym. After the race, there is a beer party with live music, and you get to keep a viking hat, shirt, and medal. CONS: One of the obstacles was this big hill covered in tarp where they blased water down for you to slide down (it was on a motocross course). I was going pretty fast and it was shockingly painful--there were chunks of dirt and rocks under the tarp. So now my back and butt are covered in painful, dark purple brusies. It hurts whenever I move my arms or turn, and it hurts to sit down..it was hard to sleep comfortably, and it's been two days. I also got scratched up too--I've never had bruises this big that have been so painful. That being said, I expected some pain/battle scars--it's a WARRIOR DASH. I would still definitely do this race again, I might just skip the hill next time :) TIPS: *bring shoes that will stay on despite sticky mud (or duct tape your shoes) *bring a towel for your car *bring a change of clothes cause you'll be muddy and sweaty *bring a water bottle cause water is only available during the race and at the finish read more

The Warrior Dash - the best 5K field party ever, in BF Maryland! 3rd year running in Budds Creek MD, the 5K Warrior Dash has gained word-of-mouth notoriety among true competitors and Weekend Wanna-bees alike, resulting in an astounding turnout. Yet another fabulous weekend for sunburn, dehydration, and skinned knees. Though many changes for 2012, this year's course had some disappointments: no arching Horizontal Hike and the Petrifying Plunge ran out of water resulting in a huge backup and a lot of skips. However, the Muddy Mayhem quagmire was re-engineered with a soul-killing finish - now smile for the camera. Check-in was fast, but this year's placement of the water trucks was clearly an after-thought, and seriously, if you are too stupid to hose down a bunch of muddy warriors what job could you possibly be good at? It's a shame the promoters are starting to get greedy, though parking is still $10/car, beer is $6 and your RFID tag only gets you a warm can of Miller Lite. Ominous prohibitions against outside food & drink curtailed the tailgating after-parties. Still, tens-of-thousands created a festival-like atmosphere, hopped-up on music, mud, beer, & turkey legs. And though not a triathlon, you will need some upper-body strength, duct-tapped sneakers, and a friend to shame you in to completing all the obstacles. Get in line early to post a good time and bring a spectator to take pictures, offer encouragement, and handle personal effects. Themed-costumes puts you in elite status. Knee and elbow wraps win the race. What a party, and great bragging rights - see you next year! read more

Paid $63 to race on 5/20/2012. Never been to a mudrun before, but this was lots of fun. I was a runner in high school and recently began running regularly. This was an awesome change from the normal runs on roads. So, for about the first mile, it was mostly trail running in the woods. There are some mud pits in the woods..and one of them smelled TERRIBLE..like something died in there. But, for runners, your best bet is to crank through the first mile since you'll have plenty of time on the obstacles to gather your breath. Plenty of climbing obstacles.. The "slip-n-slide" obstacle was fun..except I slipped on the way down and have a bruise or something that is painful on my behind. And, the hills were terrible. Be sure to do some hill workouts before going. There's an obstacle that is a hill, but there are plenty of other hills between the other obstacles. Urgh and the last mud pit at the end..it was terrible. I spent so much time in there and just went so slowly through it. But oh well, just part of the race. All the things I got there: t-shirt, viking hat, free energy drink, $8 turkey leg (had a tag for a free beer, but ended up giving it to some stranger) overall, it was lots of fun and would totally do it again. read more
I was sort of nervous to run this thing, considering it was my very first 5k ever, which would have been an event enough without the mud pits or the jumping over flames. I think they tried to hype the event as "a race from hell", but the obstacles weren't too bad (most of them were just like oversized playground equipment for adults, like a huge jungle gym and slide). I'd say it's doable for anyone who works out regularly, you don't have to be fresh out of boot camp. It's a fun, party atmosphere, and everyone was super encouraging. If you are really looking to get a good run in, it's not really possible unless maybe if you are at the front of the starting line. You have to wait in line for many of the obstacles, and many people just walked the whole thing. Tips: Definitely bring a change of clothes afterward. When training for the dash, don't just don't concentrate on the running, try to boost upper arm strength. Look for Groupons for admission. The email said that parking $10, which is extremely lame since you had already paid close to $70 for the race. I wound up not paying since I couldn't figure out who to pay and no one asked for it, but I don't know if other people had to pay or not. read more
A great day!! I just completed the Warrior Dash... A 5K obstacle course run... 12 of them in total. From crawling under barbed wire to rope climbs, this is sure to give you a run for your money. The hills were KILLER!! Being that it is a motor cross course, they are constant. Definitely stay hydrated if you do try to tackle this one! One of the obstacles was down during the run, and we had to go back to complete another. It was so much fun though!! I will definitely be doing more of these!! read more

What a great event! Kudos to the organizers, from parking, check in, trail, obstacles, cleanup stations, food, etc. not a single complaint! Everyone was having a good time, not sure how they pulled it off with so many people but Warrior Dash Maryland nailed it. I will be back next year! read more

Septic Dash 2019 Ohio.... Well. I was very disappointed in the Warrior Dash this year at Clays Park. Upon entering around 9 am the port-a-pottys were extra stinky this year. Hey no shock there. It was a little fishy or should I say septicey. The first race started at 8. A little weird that the sewage treatment smell was in full gear. Little did we know, if you like that smell, then you will really love the race. At the starting gate we looked around for the source of the smell. Okay, this is a little weird but hey it is the start of the race. Maybe those guys around us are a little nervous. Okay, out of the gate and up the hills. Cool the smell is gone and we have lots of crazy mud. Weird, into another artificial mud pit and the smell returns. Throughout the course a manure smell returns randomly on the artificial pits. It was reminiscent of my days working as a manager of an RV park. Yes, I said it. Also, the water pumps smelled as good as driving by your local water treatment plant. Glad I have had my tetnous shot. It is sad we are here to donate money for a worthy cause and have some fun. But I really feel our health was at risk. Last year the race was ran beautifully. This year it did not have the care that it should have. All my team members where highly concerned with the septic smell coming from the mud. read more

The course is fun and challenging but when I ran my heat the first water station was completely out and the staff couldn't give an estimate for more water arriving. Got to the second water station just in time before that one ran out. May not seem like that big of a deal to some but when you're not an OCR athlete and it's blazing hot this situation can send you into a panic. read more
I ran this run with a group in May 2016. This is not really a run but more of a walk to get dirty and play in the mud. There are not that many obstacles on the course. I thought there would be a obstacle every .5 mile but it was nothing like that. The obstacles are not that hard to complete. We enjoyed this run just because we could jump in the mud and get wet but no one really ran. You go through the woods and the trails were pretty muck. There were areas where the puddles of mud would come up to your waist or chest and you could fall in pretty easy. The finish was ok. They did not have a good place to get clean and only provided really cold water. There were no changing areas either. This is way easier than Tough Mudder. Don't come here expecting a challenging run with some though obstacles. It is far out from DC (around 1-2 hours by car), but I would do it again with the right group of people. This is definitely an event you do with a group. It is just more fun that way. Parking is in a grass field and it can be wet. There is not much at the end of the race. No free food or any thing like that. I can't even remember if we got any water at the end, so make sure you bring your own stuff. read more

Had a lot of potential and I'm sure a lot of people had fun, but this review is to air a serious complaint: They left several people on the course high and dry. They turned off the water for the Goliath and the slide, turned off the showers, took all the turkey legs away, and left the bags unsecured while there were still participants on the course! These people are owed. read more

Well, if you are an in shape person trying to get a good time, this is not the race for you. Within five minutes of the race, people were walking and just getting in the way of others trying to run. Most of the runners skipped hard obstacles to just gather and form lines at the slide because that was an event that they could actually do. This in turn slowed down my time. I was stuck waiting for 15 minutes at this station. This slowed down my time dramatically, for obvious reasons. I was pissed. I was running a 7 minute mile pace. What is the point for having timers on your shoes and having medals for first place when the system is obviously flawed? If you want to run a timed event people, stick to road races. This warrior dash is not for warriors, just warriors at heart. If you want to run a tough race, go to tough mudder! read more
