This is Cleveland's "legendary game store" that has been around for over 25 years. The place will most likely have the game or figure you are looking for - or something you never seen before - it may take a bit if digging tho. The place is jammed packed - seriously packed to the ceiling with tight aisles and things piled in between, so hope you're not claustrophobic. My wife, best friend and i were traveling through and decided to stop in. Not local but bad such an abysmal experience I felt the need to warn anyone thinking of coming here. First off, my wife felt completely uncomfortable. The owner (or who i presume to be the owner) who "helped" us was staring her up and down the entire time. She felt sexualized and dirty. Instead of making a scene, we exited the establishment with the same gentleman complaining how we left his door open (when we did not btw). If you are a woman, I would suggest avoiding this place like the plague. Second, my friend asked what kind of deal would be given for buying a box of cards. The owner said he would be paying $8 a pack for the full box, same as buying singles. Most establishments would drop by a much larger amount than this. Third and finally, you can barely walk through the place. I am not a large person, but i was struggling to walk through to even browse. One time i was looking at decks of cards, and i was yelled at to get put from behind the counter. Understandable, except for the fact that the entire counter was loaded with boxes of unsold merchandise. One could not tell that it was a counter at all. Once again, I want to reiterate that this store and its owner gave us a terrible experience. It is establishments like these that give TCG's a bad name. PLEASE stay away from here! read more

Great Store. Great Owner. Great staff. I've loved coming here for years felt like a true gamers LGS. I've been buying books for years and it was a sweet spot for Horus Heresy books. Unfortunately now they have gone up to scalper prices for books in an already expensive hobby that continues to rise. Support locally owned businesses! The owner is nice but not the easiest person to have a conversation with. When you're a novice speaking to a pro they tend to have less patience for stupid questions, that was apparent and unappreciated. Truth is they have a ton of crap in that store! (In a good way...sort of) Think of an hoarder. But the things that are hoarded are games for sale. It can be a little overwhelming but the owner seems to know where everything is located so that's a plus. The prices are fair I suppose. Don't go expecting a deal. Bottom line is there aren't too many at these gaming stores in existence so support those that are. read more

The selection is amazing but not well organized. There is a semi organized area with COIN games as well as RPG books that seemed to be organized. The aisles are narrow and his dog (a very nice dog) has free reign in the store. There is dog hair all over the place. I would be shocked if he had less than 10,000 titles in this labyrinthine store. The prices are OK but not great. The lack of organization, lighting and dirt made the place feel very claustrophobic. Tucked away in a hidden corner of the Aeldari Webway, in a location so remote that only the Harlequins can locate it, is the fabled black library. Legend has it that this library contains all the knowledge of the fallen Eldar empire, containing secret knowledge of all chaos and the galaxy at large. If this was 40K, Warzone-Matrix would've been the Black Library's tabletop corner. Lovers of all things tabletop rejoice, for warzone matrix has decades worth of RPG and Wargamer goodness underneath its roof. Looking for older versions of D&D and some minis to go with? They have that. Are you a fan of warhammer, bolt action, Malifaux or another one of the myriad of war games? They have that too. Looking for some newer games that are for some reason isn't in stock anywhere else (like, say, modiphius' fallout and elder scroll war games)? You know damn well they have that too. Their selection isn't just limited to RPGs and war games either, they have a section filled with books from Black Library (the publishing company, not the aformentioned Eldar one), and in a hallway leading off of their main room they have at least one room dedicated to board games as well as games lining the hallway itself. If you play on the tabletop or are looking to get into it, I highly recommend warzone as your place to start. P.S. the owner has a dog named jack that walks around the shop. Be wary if you have an allergy to dogs, but rejoice if you don't because he's very friendly and likes being pet. read more

An honest review I've been at this store plenty of times. Are you looking for an oldschool shop, that reminds you of the good old days? If you're looking for some local game store nostalgia, it's the place to be. Yeah it's cluttered, but it's a local game shop!! I consider this part of the charm, and reminds me of when I was younger. If you're ever wondering if he has a board game in stock, just give him a call. The owner is there literally every day of the week, sitting behind the desk. That's passion. I have to say this store does have a lot of hard to find items, I will come here to find things I can't find at other stores. The pricing is off the things that aren't hard to find are more expensive than every where else. I'm all about supporting my hobby shops but I'm not going to pay double for a single plastic figure. The owner has really ruined the store for me. I will only buy something from here if Tom is working because Tom isn't short, or snappy he talks to me about product coming in, lets me know if they have something I'd like and most importantly he has never called someone and started cussing and chewing them out in front of my like the owner has done. I don't even know how to review this place. First impression: it's an effing pigsty. The games, minis and other merch is disorganized, stacked in random piles and visibly dusty. When you walk in, the owner or whoever is there doesn't greet you. There were cobweb-covered Halloween decorations out... In July. In order to look at minis once, my boyfriend and I had to maneuver around each other. I bought some paints today, and after checking out, they were handed to me in a used Arby's bag. (Seriously... It had grease stains.) However, this place has a pretty impressive selection of minis; board, card and hobby games; and miscellaneous geeky accessories. It's the only place in the area that you can get P3 paints without having to order them. So, as much as I don't want to give these people my money, sometimes I do. All that being said, Gamer's Haven in Middleburg Heights is not too far from Warzone. And it's clean. And you can play there. And though it doesn't have quite the selection that Warzone does, the guys at Gamer's Haven will place orders by request, and they usually have your stuff within a week or so. So, long story short: Warzone is gross but necessary at times. Gamer's Haven, in my opinion, is a much better option for most of your gaming needs. read more

Firstly, to all those people who gave bad reviews for 'clutter/messiness': You are NOT true geeks then. Had to get that off my chest. This place is a treasure and it's sad because places like this are becoming harder to find by the day. Never been here before but had heard many great things about the owner and the establishment. Yes, it is cluttered, but have you SEEN all the one of a kind crap in there?? Yes, it's dusty in the low traffic areas, but look at that dust covered board game and enjoy the free trip back to childhood. The owner is very nice and his prices are fair. He has an ENORMOUS knowledge of trading cards and rulings. The ONLY reason I'm giving it 4 stars is because I was promised his $20 magic boxes would have a handful of rares/gold cards and there were none. If you want unrivalled selection of gaming related products, from Magic to Warhammer to 1st edition D&D (and earlier!), you'd be wasting your time going anywhere else. The owner has created a literal treasure trove of the industry in this gaming museum located on Rocky River drive. And all the goodies are for sale! Impossible to find Magic cards? Got 'em. GW miniatures that have been out of print since the 70s? Got 'em. The latest release no other store ordered or ran out of? They probably have that too. The owner is a gamer too, and will gladly help you start your first miniature army or Magic deck. With this much stock, the place is far from neat and orderly. The store itself is nice enough, a bit cramped and overflowing with merchandise but that's pretty common for this type of store. The owner has quite a few Magic the Gathering singles for sale but they are often overpriced. He has taken advantage of several player in our play circle when they were just starting and didn't have a clue what the cards were actually worth. I understand that an owner has to make a profit but selling cards at outrageously inflated prices (we've caught him selling cards for 10-20 times the actual value) because the buyer is unaware is like stealing in my books. He intentionally does not list prices on his singles so he can give whatever price he thinks he can get away with. I advise every player I know to avoid this store. read more

This place is for nerds by nerds and it doesn't try to hide it. Stuff seems to be piled everywhere and it can be a little intimidating upon first walking in. The staff have been very friendly to me and answered my many questions. They invited my son and I by to view tournament 40k play and that was another good experience. THE place for magic cards in Cleveland! The owner has every single ever! And packs are 3 for $11 bucks, I have not found a better deal anywhere else. The back has a large gaming area that is a blast to play games at or draft at. Please for all that is holy pay no attention to the previous reviewer. This place is a table top gamer's paradise. The selection is gargantuan and spans from almost every era of every game you can name and some that I'd never heard of. The main portion of the store is fairly organized and easy to navigate and find what you need. The back room, which the previous reviewer mentioned, is a bit of a piled menagerie. However, this is the sorting area and I must stress that it is not the main sale area. Personally, as a faithful nerd, this place is akin to stumbling into a cave piled to the ceilings with gold, jewels, and +5 Boots of Orc Smashing. The owner is very knowledgeable of the genre and has always been very helpful every time I've gone in. There is literally something going on there every night and he stays open a lot later for that reason. As far as the marked up prices go, that's just the way it works for these small independent businesses nowadays. I usually stay exclusively local and I may pay more for it, but you will never get the same environment or sense of service that you do at the big chains. All in all the place is a wonderland of scattered handmade creations and gaming treasures and I'll proudly be a patron for as long as I'm in the area. read more

Interesting place. If you're claustrophobic, then wandering through the board games here might be a bit daunting. Also, as everyone says, the front room is just a mess (I heard about it and I still wondered if they were renovating or something). The owner seems nice enough, though, and was helping a few people pick a game when I got there. I'd say the big plus here is selection: they have everything board game wise including some cool used Avalon hill classics and what not. The drag is price: there are no bargains to be found. I would have been happy to drop a few bucks but couldn't bring myself to go over even eBay prices. Totally worth a visit, though. read more

Avoid this sh*thole at all costs. I had just recently started playing magic when I found this place via a Google search so when I walked in I was very new to the game and had very little knowledge or experience in buying cards. Speaking of when I walked in....... What a disaster! A cluttered, dirty, disorganized mess. When I came through the door there was a table of about 5 people playing magic, they all looked up at me, stared blankly at me for a moment, then went back to their game, no one said a word. It was as if I had just invaded their super secret hideout. I then spent about 10 mins trying to navigate through the maze of crap in this place just trying to find some help. I eventually went back to the group playing magic and asked if they knew where I could find an employee or some assistance and it turns out that one of them was the owner! Clearly irritated that I had just interrupted them the owner got up from the table in a huff and asked me what I needed. I explained that I was new to the game and didn't know what the different formats were or where I should start in terms of a card collection, basic newcomer questions. During our conversation this guy continuously interrupted me, talked down to me, made me feel stupid for my lack of knowledge about magic, and was incredibly rude throughout. When I realized that I wasn't getting anywhere with this pr*ck I eventually just asked if I could see what booster boxes he had available. To this he replied "no you can't see them, they're in the vault, no one is allowed in the vault." Lol, "the vault" being a barely accessible room where he keeps his magic product. This guy is a total pack-rat and reminds me of that kid who has a bunch of cool toys, but won't share any of them, and has no friends as a result. At this point I was extremely frustrated and should have just left but I figured I came all the way out there and might as well leave with some cards. So I asked him if I could have a booster box of some old set that wasn't even in rotation anymore and made no sense for a beginner to be buying, I can't remember exactly which but it came at the recommendation of this guy. He then tried to convince me to buy single packs instead of a sealed box and said he would throw in an extra pack or something if I did it that way. Although I was brand new to this something about that seemed fishy to me so I declined the offer. After playing for a while now and doing some research there is no doubt in my mind that the reason he tried to sell me loose packs instead of a sealed box was that he had already mapped booster boxes and removed all the packs with any value and was trying to dump the worthless leftovers on me. So the guy reluctantly squeezed his fat *ss into the vault and emerged with the sealed product that he spent considerable time hand picking for me, as if he were deciding which child to give up for adoption. I finally make it up to the counter with my brand new booster box and fat pack for checkout. The guy looked at what I had for a minute and then gave me a price. I legitimately thought he was joking at first and laughed a little. Then there was an awkward silence and I slowly realized that this guy was for real. He was selling the booster box for approximately $60 more than you can find them at other stores and god knows how much more than you can find them online. The fat pack was no better at about $50 more than the market price. I said to the guy "sir I'm aware of the fact that I'm new to Magic the Gathering but I know those are not fair prices" he bumbled and backtracked a bit when he realized he had been caught trying to rip someone off. After a brief argument with him at the counter I had had finally had enough a told him that he and his store were horrible! He just shrugged, collected his product, and shuffled back to the vault, happy I'm sure that he didn't have to part with any of his precious collection. I left frustrated and empty handed. The owner of this store is just not a good person. He is a hoarder who has no business sense and lacks all interpersonal skills. On top of all this he obviously has no problem taking advantage of new players. The worst part of all this is that these are the kind of people who give Magic a bad name and they are the ones who are hurting the game. In summation, please do not support this guy or this establishment. The one positive that came from all this is that I left without spending any of my money at this dump. read more

I went here to find some Vellejo paints, which they had, but it was a very uncomfortable experience to say the least. Like other reviews said, the place is a mess. The have so much stuff but it's everywhere. When I walked in, the guy was sitting there with his back turned to me on his laptop. When I asked him if he carried the paints, he showed me to the back room. This is where it just got weird and uncomfortable. He takes me in the back room where there are no lights on, and just leaves. So I'm back there in the dark trying to see the paints, all the while waiting for Leather Face to come out and start up the chainsaw. Just creepy. After, I pick out the paints(which were dried out because they were so old) the guy puts my stuff in a used take out bag with crumbs and all. Exactly as the other reviewer said. Needless to say I will not be back. If you need good War gaming/ Hobby supplies go to Gamer's Haven. They have a great selection, and there stuff hasn't been sitting around collecting dust. read more

First off, the Warzone is more than a store, it's a community. So it is unfair to judge it like some gas station or restaurant, also I've seen first hand on MANY occasions people armed with a cell phone review app, crap entitled attitudes and b%^# face come in here and give the staff a hard time just because they can't get what they want for the price they seen on ebay....that being said... CLUTTER? The owner graciously allows regular customers to store their gaming supplies there from time to time IN ADDITION to having the best readily available stock of many different genres in the interest of keeping games available and running quickly so people interested in trying a new game can come there and try it out with other people so they don't have to rely on internet reviews :|. TAKE OUT BAGS/ INVENTORY? The owner is a avid recycler, so instead of a pile of receipts paper that costs money and creates waste the staff writes in on scrap paper then hands it off for the inventory to be adjusted on computer later. As for the bags that's obvious, I'm sure you all know about the plastic trash heap in the ocean... I, for one, love sea turtles and LOVE that he uses recycled bags. If you're that huge of a whiny baby about a few crumbs or wrinkles in the bag he puts your stuff in I'm sure you won't be able to handle playing a competitive game with other humans. smh. PRICES? Prices are what they are. Do online stores pay rent on commercial frontage, snow removal, heating, cooling? Or are facts like this simply not thought about by the average internet wimp? The price is a little higher, but theres no shipping cost, or no membership cost for free shipping! If you want the item today, you can have it today! If you want to try it before you buy, it can usually be arranged or the staff will ask other people who play that game if they need more people! Also I dont know of any other brick and mortar store that sells the variety of used war games/ miniatures at such amazing prices. Bits, Assembled models, assembled and painted models?!?!? JACKPOT! What a steal to be able to buy painted models, and the staff is even willing to paint for a good price! Saves hours and hours of time, time=money and assembled painted models means more time playing! The Warzone-Matrix is a gamers dream. I think I would rename this place to Basement of Games Galore. This place sort of reminds me of what my basement would look like if I could purchase all of the gaming stuff I ever wants. This place has everything! I have been to gaming conventions across the mid-west that sport 10,000 attendees that don't have as much stuff as the Warzone-Matrix does. I recently went in there to purchase a D&D book, and was shocked they didn't have it in stock. SHOCKED I TELL YOU. The store owner said he would order it for me and it would be there in a few days. The store owner Chris actually called me back about 2-3 hours later and said that the book was in. How awesome is that?!
