I feel like the employees aren't very invested in helping you and if you ask a a question it feels like a burden on them. I had called to inquire about store hours and let them know that I had come by during their listed hours but the closed sign was up and they told me there's no way that had happened. Additionally, I purchase some interchangeable needles and the price that rung up was higher than the sticker price. I hadn't noticed until I got home, so then I went back to the store a couple days later with the stickers still on there. They told me it was because of the tariffs, which I completely understand, but better customer service would honor the price that was listed on the item. They also made it feel as though it was my fault for not knowing the prices had increased (I don't live in Cleveland, so I only come to shop when I'm in town to see family). Overall, I've had multiple recent experiences with the shop that were unpleasant. I'm disappointed since the selection is nice, but given the service I will be taking my business elsewhere in the future.

This is a wonderful shop. I don't stop in nearly as often as I would like (work takes up so much…read moretime that could be spent knitting or crocheting, right?), yet absolutely every time I have walked in, Cathy (the owner) has remembered me, and has always greeted me warmly. She and her employees are knowledgeable and helpful, and I have never felt pressured to purchase anything. I visited this past week with a mission to find yarn to go with a dress I had purchased; love the dress, but it is sleeveless, and I need something to slip on for cooler temps. Not finding anything online or in stores, I decided to knit a shrug. Cathy helped me choose not only yarn that went with the colors in the dress, she unwound skeins in order to choose the two skeins that best matched each other. She also looked at my pattern and confirmed how much yarn I needed and what weight (we changed it from a DK to a worsted weight). I know that if I run into any challenges while making my piece, I can go into the shop and receive knitting advice. Skeins of yarn are wound at no cost, classes are offered for knitters and crocheters of all levels, and this shop participates each year in the annual Yarn Discovery Tour. Purchases are recorded on your Yarn Card - I completed mine with this visit and received a $$ reward that was applied to my purchase.

So I went on living social and found a deal that The Artful Yarn was having. Knitting lessons for 2- for 2 days!!! I couldn't beat the deal! So after a lot of back and forth with the Owner, Cathy, my friend and I finally found some dates that work for us! When we arrived to the store, we both were in amazement! They have everything you can think of! And Cathy!!!! I just heart her! When she discovered who I was, ran up and gave me one of the best hugs ever! She totally won me over that day! The knitting class that we took was very worthwhile. Not only did we learn how to do 3 stitches, they also gave as some history about knitting and some vocabulary. After the second class, my friend and I feel as though we are pros! LOL! Not really, but we are more confidenet know to bust out our needles. With the class we receive knitting needles, a book, a bag, and some NICE thread. They offer a lot more classes, even have like a "help-line", and a knitting corner- where you can bring in your latest project and just knit and chat with the ladies. I for sure will be back!

They were very accommodating and had the yarn I needed, and so much more that I would have liked to buy. They offer loads of patterns and have quite a few beautiful pieces on display. This shop is a little reminiscent of Mary's Yarns in Unionville, which - sadly - closed a few years ago. I will have to shop here as often as I can to support them and my hobby. Furthermore they will be in Toronto at the end of April for the Knitter's Frolic.

This past Thursday I was having a rough day, but decided an outing might help. It took me all day but I gathered my strength and headed to the yarn shop in Waterloo. As always I had Erie with me and when I got to the shop there was a note in the window saying there is a dog in the shop. When I headed in the lady saw my dog and took hers to the back saying it gets along with people but not with other dogs. The other dog was barking and whining but there was really nothing I could do about that so we continued on. Maybe the lady thought I was taking too long or I wasn't going to buy anything and was just trying to get out of the rain, I don't know. But she came around the corner and said, "your dog is upsetting my dog and I'm busy and have things to do, so can you tie your dog up outside please?" I explained that she is my service dog and she has to stay with me, at which point she said, "well then you will have to leave!" I could have argued with her. I could've told her it was like asking someone to leave because their wheelchair was taking up too much space or telling someone with oxygen that they couldn't come in because there were lit candles. My dog is my medical equipment just like a wheelchair or oxygen. But I didn't. I just left. It had taken all of my energy and strength to get there I didn't have any left to argue. By the time I made it across the street to a little mall I was shaking and sobbing uncontrollably. I hadn't done anything wrong and neither had my dog but she told us to leave! I want to be like everyone else and do the same things in the same manner but I can't. Situations like these make a bad day worse and show the ignorance of others. As always we will continue to be positive and carry on without letting this bother us. For other handlers, please know we understand and experience the same. For others, please remember you don't know what people are going through. Please be respectful. #servicedog #doberman #medicalalertdog

This store makes it super easy to do business. I was able to ask multiple questions, send over my…read morelogo and pay by credit card all by email. If you have a JPEG logo for example there will be a fee (which was under $50 with tax) to have Hometown convert the logo into the file type required for embroidery. When I went into the store to look at the logo once it had been digitized I was able to have changes made to it - delete words and realign other words. The staff were super helpful telling me what is common in terms of logo width and font size. If you have a logo already made they can pretty much execute any drag and resize action you could want. If you don't have a file already, while they don't design logos, they can set you up with stylized words. The staff were super patient as I picked out the colors to be used bringing me spools of thread to compare against each other and against the shirts I brought in and the digital image of my logo. I find their prices super reasonable and everyone was very friendly. It was just $12 per shirt that I wanted to have embroidered. I didn't buy the clothing there, but they had a retail floor of clothing and hats and a half ream sized catalog that you could purchase anything you could imagine from. My shirts were ready for pickup a week later and I was really happy with the quality and colors. I will certainly drop off more shirts soon and I'm thinking some hats too and maybe some of those cloth grocery bags.

It's incredibly fortunate to have a local company in the area. From several past experiences, the design phase(s) was drawn out and the turnaround time(s) exasperating & frustrating to say the least. At HT, it was a smooth, streamline process which delivers a quality product. Makes our decision very easy when it comes to future ideas. It's always nice to do business with people & places that are truly passionate for what they do!
