The food was great across the board. The ramen was rich and comforting, the noodles were cooked just right, and the soft-boiled egg was perfect. Everything tasted fresh and well put together, not rushed or sloppy. Service was friendly and quick, and the atmosphere was relaxed, easy place to sit back and enjoy your meal without feeling crowded or hurried. Whether you're in the mood for sushi or a warm bowl of ramen, this spot delivers. Definitely coming back the next time I'm craving Japanese food in Ankeny.

This was my first time here and I had a good experience. We were quickly seated at 5:30 and got to looking at the large menu. We got our drinks and then were reminded that the happy hour ends at 6:00 so we got a good deal on our appetizers and sushi. I tried the edamame and pork potstickers, they were the usual. I then ordered the California rolls and crunchy crab rolls, both were very good. I also tried the rock and roll rolls and those were very good too! Our server was helpful and the restaurant is large enough to hold quite a few guests. The lighting is dim, but feels more upscale that way. Definitely hope to be back!

Our experience tonight was delicious and savory! We stared with drinks, a gin Bombay Sapphire Berry Mojhito and a Bud Light with a chilled glass. Our pre-starter was the fresh side salad with ginger dressing and a savory hot Miso soup. We usually we get sushi rolls or nigre but tonight we opted for Pad Thai with pork and my husband got the Gyudon dishe for dinner. Excellent service too.

We went here because we LOVE sushi and it was within walking distance of our hotel. Our first meal there, I would've made a 3.5-4 rating, we sat outside to eat because...well, Covid. The sushi was kind of average. Not sure if it was really the sushi or just the chill in the air combined with being 10' from a street. For some reason this never bothers me in NYC, but in Iowa...it did. So, we decided to take our life and put it in other hands and return to eat indoors. What a different opinion! Was it because I was warm & not inhaling exhaust? Or that what we ordered this time was AMAZING?!! I would tell you that our food the 2nd time started with an appetizer of kimchee topped hamachi. Unbelievable!! So clean and fresh with a subtle bite. I could eat this every single day of my life - unfortunately, I do t LIVE in Iowa. There's the rub... We ordered 2 more rolls that we really enjoyed - but the app made the meal! Well, like I said, cars outside are within a stones throw so parking is like being a Rock Star!! Bathroom was extremely clean - in fact, when I walked in someone was cleaning it again. Last but never least, the service was great and I could say it's because they are at 50% seating - but, I think it's just like that. I asked my daughter that goes there regularly and she said the service has always been great for them. Remember to tip more than usual during this time of crisis. It's been especially tough on the service industry!

We went to Hokkaido Ramen House Friday night thinking we were just grabbing a bowl of noodles. What…read morewe found was a really nice surprise -- and then we apparently forgot how to stop ordering food. The restaurant is very cool inside, spotless, and has a great atmosphere. They were moderately busy, but service was still very fast. Our server was sweet, funny, witty, kind and attentive. She really added to the experience. We started with the gyoza, which were fresh, hot and delicious. I ordered the Tom Yum Ramen, loaded with seafood and a ton of flavor. Kim had the Spicy Beef Ramen with the giant bone-in beef rib. That thing is a monster of a bowl and was packed with flavor. Kim tried the apple sake and liked it so much that we stopped afterward and bought a bottle. I had a Tsingtao beer and then decided I apparently hadn't ordered enough food, so I added the tuna sashimi. It was incredibly fresh and delicious, especially with the fresh ginger and greens. We definitely spent more than we intended, but mostly because we kept wanting to try more things. Hokkaido is only about half a mile from our house, which may turn out to be dangerous. Great food, fast service, fun atmosphere and one of those places that surprised us in the best way. We'll definitely be back.

This was…read moreonly our second ramen spot, but it has officially become the standard we'll compare every other ramen restaurant against. We started with the dumplings, and they were outstanding--crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside, and packed with flavor. They were the perfect way to start the meal. I ordered the Spicy Beef Ramen, and all I can say is... wow. The broth was rich, bold, and full of depth without overpowering the dish. The beef was incredibly tender, practically falling apart with every bite, and every ingredient came together perfectly. My wife ordered the Miso Ramen and couldn't stop talking about how flavorful and comforting it was. Every spoonful tasted fresh and thoughtfully prepared. The atmosphere was another highlight. The restaurant has a beautiful, open layout with warm lighting, Japanese-inspired décor, and a welcoming vibe that makes you want to stay and enjoy your meal. It feels modern while still being cozy. To top it all off, the service was phenomenal. Our server was attentive, friendly, and made sure we had everything we needed without ever feeling intrusive. Hokkaido delivered on every level--food, atmosphere, and service. We'll definitely be back, and if you're in the Ankeny area and craving ramen, this is a place you need to experience. Highly recommended.

From what I can tell it's similar to Ohana's, but more like Taki... Tokyo Steakhouse offers a tableside menu without having to sit around the grill. Definitely the way to go for more of a quiet dinner. We were greeted and seated right away when we walked in. The booth was comfortable. Our server Danish stopped by within a minute or two and introduced himself. He took our drink order and gave us a few minutes to look over the menu. My companion ordered the steak and shrimp hibachi dinner that came with soup and a salad. I ordered the firecracker roll and shrimp tempura roll off the sushi menu. I really enjoyed both rolls and was able to try a little of the steak and shrimp hibachi plate. It was really good too. Make sure you order a side of the yum yum sauce for the fried rice! Danish did a great job throughout our visit. He was polite and personable and our drinks never hit empty. The food was all on point! A great first experience at Tokyo Steakhouse!
