This was only our second ramen spot, but it has officially become the standard we'll compare every other ramen restaurant against. We started with the dumplings, and they were outstanding--crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside, and packed with flavor. They were the perfect way to start the meal. I ordered the Spicy Beef Ramen, and all I can say is... wow. The broth was rich, bold, and full of depth without overpowering the dish. The beef was incredibly tender, practically falling apart with every bite, and every ingredient came together perfectly. My wife ordered the Miso Ramen and couldn't stop talking about how flavorful and comforting it was. Every spoonful tasted fresh and thoughtfully prepared. The atmosphere was another highlight. The restaurant has a beautiful, open layout with warm lighting, Japanese-inspired décor, and a welcoming vibe that makes you want to stay and enjoy your meal. It feels modern while still being cozy. To top it all off, the service was phenomenal. Our server was attentive, friendly, and made sure we had everything we needed without ever feeling intrusive. Rich ramen flavor. It was fine in its own way. Ordered the tonkatsu and the tom yum ramen. Our friends ordered the same thing. We have similar foodie tastes and we all agreed it was ok. No true wow factor but also wasn't terrible. I guess it was satisfying in its unique right. $15-$17 a bowl. Add $4 for gluten free. Ramen noodles are made of egg so I opted for the gluten free glass noodles in my tom yum. My bowl came to $21.50. I did not really enjoy my ramen. It was not the flavors I wanted. The texture of the noodles didn't belong in a tom yum soup. I had a taste of Mr W's tonkatsu and I felt it was overpowered with a bamboo and charred pork flavor. Extremely salty as well. He enjoyed it ok but also agreed it was very rich. We all shared spicy edemame and crab rangoons. I did not like the edemame it was seasoned with a sweet and sour finishing glaze with red pepper flakes. Not the right flavor for me. Service was ok. Food arrived quickly and great presentation. Restaurant was busy for a Thursday night. Restaurant was decorated beautifully in Japanese theme decor. Quaint and fun. All in all...it was ok but not my favorite. Got two Hidden leaf bowls. It cost over 50 dollars for them. The meat was so dry and chewy and they didn't add any chili sauce to it. Small portions and very bland. I'm so disappointed. So I an visiting Des Moines for the first time for a few days. Monday being my first afternoon, we were exploring different parts of Des Moines including passing by the State Fairgrounds, the national parksls area, Pleasant Hills and some camping grounds., This was where we ended up for dinner. My friend selected places she wanted to go but hssn't which is why we ended up here. They have sushi, ramen bowls, sushi and so much more. I chose the veggie fried ramen because I wanted something filling and satisfying. The noodles had good texture. The sauce was a mix of salty and savory. The veggies were crisp tender. I ordered the 16 oz Sapporo beer with my meal. Our server. Mary, was very friendly, courteous and informed about the menu. We asked for separate checks, which was not a problem. However, Mary did put the beer on my friend's bill. When requested, Mary did make the correction. We paid in cash and tipped decently. read more

So, when one arrives at a restaurant, they ultimately expect to be presented with more than just a menu to read in total for their experience. Drinks, food, etc. This was not our experience lately. Myself and my dining partner were totally ignored after receiving our menus despite parties later than us receiving impeccable service. This was not an understaffing issue as plenty were on staff to service the traffic at that time; we were simply completely disregarded. The staff completely ignored us and our attempts to flag us down and, after 20+ minutes of seeing their openly ignoring our attempts to even get DRINKS let alone food from a restaurant, we took our business elsewhere. This experience has caused us and those we know to 86 the restaurant entirely as such treatment is unacceptable. If you want to maintain a customer base, picking and choosing who you serve while totally ignoring people you'd rather avoid isn't exactly a conducive strategy. We'd been there before and tipped well (at least 20% if not more), so we're unsure as to what caused this disgraceful treatment. read more

I ordered the spicy beef ramen here! I will say for my order the beef fell off the bone. The meat and noodles ratio is a lot compared to other restaurants which is nice! Also they were incredibly fast with getting the food out after ordering! I think this is a good place for people to stop at if they're not familiar with restaurant ramen. The service here is incredibly friendly. All of the staff were so nice and sweet. The Food: Kobe Beef Bao Buns - 5/5 definitely get them. The seasoning/spice on this was wonderful and the sauce made it that much better. Sort of reminded me of a Peking Duck Bao which I love! Spicy Beef Ramen - 5/5 I chose the Spice level of "Spicy" it had a great, beefy flavor and a Beef Short Rib in it. The spicy level wasn't spicy to me but it had a good kick for my husband. Tonkatsu Ramen - 4/5 would've given them a 5 if the bamboo shoots weren't so strong in flavor. It still had the earthy bamboo flavor but it was super overpowering. After we removed it from the soup, it tasted great! I just wish both ramen soups came with a little more broth but they definitely did not skimp on noodles or meat and I love that! When we arrived, we were seated almost immediately, which started things off on a positive note. However, the service quickly went downhill. Our server took our order, and after a long wait, my meal and three of our kids' meals finally arrived. Unfortunately, my husband's food didn't come out until 30 minutes later. The waiter explained that someone else had taken his order by mistake, so they had to start over. By the time his food was served, the rest of us had already finished eating. Food was decent but noticed that our ramen broth was a little on the oily side, with noticeable oil floating on the top. Additionally, there were additions to the ramen that you wouldn't normally find in traditional Japanese ramen (ex: bok choy and corn). However, I will say that Hokkaido Ramen House provides an extensive menu with various types of ramen and sushi to choose from with creative flavor profiles! We also ordered sushi and asked if there was any eel on the menu. Our serve kindly suggested rolls on the menu that stated had eel in them but once served to us, it was just eel sauce. Overall, my family and I had a great experience with service but just not exactly what we were expecting! We're very familiar with Japanese cuisine and this was definitely more on the American-Japanese cuisine side instead of fully authentic Japanese. My spouse and I went the other night. The service was decent but awkward. The atmosphere was kinda mixed. On one side you had loud drinking games and one side the booths for folks just eating. The "buns" were not buns. They were like tasteless thick tortillas with a modicum of filling, which by itself, was okay. The takoyaki was not fully cooked through properly and contained only the smallest two chunks of octopus (tako). The ramen itself was decent, but nothing to write home about. It is similar to the ramen of Wasabi, a local Korean-dominant Asian fusion chain. Overall, we felt it was rather lackluster. The worst part was the food quality. However, given the prices, which are significantly less than other comparable local Asian restaurants, this is an example of "you get what you pay for". read more

He asked us for refills before we even noticed our drinks were halfway empty. The bao buns were definitely top tier for me. Also got the shrimp shumai. Love it I just wish they were bigger because they were so good! I think the price is well adjusted for this place. I got the spicy beef ramen which honestly was not that spicy but that's okay! (As someone who loves spicy food, it's not that spicy but some people might think it's incredibly spicy). Well decorated place. We asked about the noodles because they tasted homemade. Was super excited to have a new ramen place open up in Ankeny. I however was disappointed overall. The miso ramen is the best one to order because the broth is flavorful and you can customize your toppings. Unfortunately the eggs are pre-cooked and overcooked. They are cold in your ramen and as you can see by the pictures, they are not the runny egg that should be in a ramen. The noodles in all the different ramen types were very good so they got that right. The tonkatsu ramen however, had a broth that tasted horrible. It had that flavor of bone broth when the foam is not skimmed off the top. It just wasn't pleasant. Honestly, the bright spot here were the noodles, I would order the noodles to go and put them in my own broth at home. That's probably the only reason I would ever come back. read more

I just tried this for lunch and it was a very good experience. It's fairly new so they are still decorating but the space is setup well and very comfortable. I was seated promptly and service was great throughout the meal. I got gyoza and tantanmen ramen. The gyoza was cooked well and the sauce was delicious. Tonkatsu and miso is really good and so is their pork chase! Bamboo is a bit big and tough to chew. Not ur typical bamboo slices and flavor but everything else was good!
