One of the most crappy dining experiences I've ever had not withstanding I ate at the bar. Service was non existent while the place was not busy. Not once did Rebecca on her own approach me or even welcome me. Never asked me how anything was or approached me for anything, plus the men's room was atrocious and not clean. I even addressed this with her and was met with a so what attitude. Worst service and for the price not worth it. Complete crap. Never again. Workers more concerned about their own individual social life than taking care of the customer. Sushi was pedestrian and average at best. This was a great place for sushi. The prices were a little higher than some sushi places I've been to. However, the sushi here was better than most other sushi places I've been to as well. Definitely worth checking out. I've been once with a friend and then again with 3 friends. All great experiences with great sushi & drinks. My husband and I just finished eating at Wasabi. I had the red curry, which was watered down and tasted like the oil they used (chili oil). At least I had meat in mine. My husband had the chicken Pad Thai, but they forgot the chicken. At least neither of us could find any. It was bland on top of that it had nut dust instead of crushed nuts. However, when we walked in, the smell was so rancid & nauseating we had to leave without ordering Well...after eating at Wasabi in Ankeny & loving it, we tried the Wasabi in Waukee. It was HORRIBLE. The chicken & fried rice was nothing like Ankeny's. It was really bad chicken - rubbery and glassy. All of it. The rice tasted like leftover grease from a frying pan that had been sitting out all day. The shrimp tempura was all cucumbers and really warm temperature. My favorite new spot to eat in the West Des Moines area. I come here often just to eat the ramen but they have great sushi and sashimi. I usually get a side chilli oil to add to the ramen for a bit of a kick. If I'm feeling like eating sushi and sashimi though I usually get the sashimi dinner for two and share it with someone because it also comes with a special roll then ask to split the bill. There are some things on the menu I avoid because I feel like it's not worth the price. The tuna poke I feel is portioned too small even for a starter. The seaweed salad taste a bit too fishy for me. Overall I'm glad this place has opened in this area and I welcome new businesses. I would try to reserve if you are trying to come here for dinner on Friday and Saturday because usually it's packed. read more

I came back here for the sushi, and headed straight to the sushi bar. It was 8 pm, 1.5 hours before close. I was dismayed to see employees occupying all six seats at the sushi bar. This is why I am downgrading my new review to four stars. So I sat nearby and read the full menu, discovering this is more than a sushi place. I ordered the lightly battered calamari, which was unlike any I have had before. The calamari were large and high quality, not any of the greasy deep fried goo every other place has. I did not eat the greens underneath because of the visible huge amount of salt on it. Then I had the Char Siu Pork Ramen. I am a ramen aficionado. Like the calamari, they have an unusual take on it. the broth was not the typical salty broth, but something really tasty. The pork pieces were huge and cooked perfectly. The rest was an egg and greens of some kind I am not familiar with, and a large number of noodles on tbe bottom. I recommend both dishes if you like calamari and ramen. Like before, a waitres delivered water instantly. My waitress was very attentive, filling my tea constantly. She gets a 5 star rating. Now back to the staff sitting at the bar ... This place is great! The ambiance is romantic, so if you're looking for a place for a date come here. First off we got a lot of food but all was amazing. The miso soup was savory with an umami taste that's perfect. The spicy garlic edamame was fantastic. It came out warm, the spice level was just right, not burning you lips off hot, and the garlic taste was wok fried toasted. The yaki udon, oh my goodness, probably the best yaki i don I've had. It's full of flavors that's mushroom, soy, umami, hint of garlic! It was perfect! The sushi and sashimi was perfect too! Presentation was everything! Gorgeous, eye catching, and the sushi rice was perfect tasting. Sour but sweet and tender rice. My only complaint would be that the sushi (fish on top with rice on bottom) had very very little rice. The rice to fish ratio was way off. But the sashimi Park was thick and fresh tasting. There was no aroma of fishiness. I forgot to mention that when I ordered the side sushi, of salmon roe, tomago, and toro. Those where my highlights and i always try to order them whenever i review a sushi place. By far, this place takes the cake, but again a very skimpy on the rice. But the row was fresh and bursting with flavor, the tomago was made perfectly, not overly sweet or fishy. And the toro! Pretty pricey, but still worth the mouth watering, tender tuna ever. They topped it off with gold leaf which probably added to the price, but still tasty. Unfortunately the option to order drinks to go are not consistent at this location(sometimes we get them other times they say they can't do drinks to go). This is a new place that just opened up in Waukee. I've always been a fan of the location by merley hay mall and downtown. So I was excited this place was opening up by my house in Waukee. It turned out to be a very nice place with a bar and outdoor seating. We ordered calamari for appetizer, a spicy crunchy tuna roll, some type of soup with tofu and seafood that came with rice and I believe is a Korean dish. And also fried rice in a clay pot with a poached egg on top which is also a Korean dish. Everything tasted great. Calamari came with a yummy sauce and wasn't too breaded, sushi tasted fresh, and Korean dishes were super good. The bad part was the service. Waitress was nice but there was a lot of waiting. When we ordered the appetizer, it was over 20 min wait with no sign of waitress. We wanted to place our order but had to wait. Once we were done with our entire meal, we again had to wait about 10-15 min for our waitress to give us a bill. I know the place is new, so I'm hoping the service improves over time. Hands down, my favorite dish to order is the Japanese duck fried rice. The portion size is enough for 2.5 people, but once I start eating it it's usually hard to stop! I've also had their tempura ice cream and sushi which are pretty good, but nothing compared to my go-to. I've sat in a couple times and always had good service. I'm looking for high-quality ingredients in sushi, not for mediocre fish to be masked by a layer of glop. I was very disappointed when it was served topped with some sauce that wasn't listed on the menu. Ever Wasabi restaurant in DSM has good service and great food. 1.) My order consisted of a 3 rolls (Spicy Scallop, Sweet Potato Tempura and Avocado Shrimp) and each one was delicious and incredibly fresh. I'd highly recommend the spicy scallop. 2.) There drinks are also very good, I ordered the Old Fashioned and it was delicious. 3.) The only negative was the service was okay, they forgot some waters and didn't visit us very often. But the food was brought out very quickly. Overall I love all the Wasabi restaurants, this one in particular has an amazing atmosphere. Definitely will continue to be my sushi spot in DSM. read more

Solid sushi spot. We came for the happy hour and were pleasantly surprised by the discounted rolls and appetizers in addition to drinks. Our server was attentive and the place was surprisingly busy for 530 on a Friday. We started with the miso soup, which was great. We ordered two basic rolls and two specialty rolls. All were delicious, and 4 rolls between the two of us were more than enough. I'm not a huge fan of the ground fish consistency vs chunks of meat though. That'd be my only real gripe. Our server was great, and she brought out a complimentary dessert for my husband's birthday -- a fried ice cream ball drizzled with liquor and lit on fire. Not a bad way to end the night! This place is such a wonderful addition to the Waukee area. I've never had fresher sushi. The owner, Jay, is a real artist. I've been their twice now, most recently with my neighbors who rave about his place. We sat at the sushi bar and Jay himself took our orders and prepared our rolls. We told him to make us whatever he felt like making, and boy where they outstanding. None of which were on the menu. Having him as part of the experience really adds a fun and interesting element to it all. He enjoyed telling us all about what new fish he got in that day. Prices are comparable to other sushi places. Bottom line...I love this place. I never have a need to drive to West Des Moines or downtown ever again for sushi. This is by far the best sushi on the west side of the Des Moines Metro. If you're smart you'll take advantage of their happy hour specials. They have great deals on their specialty rolls and a few choice beverages. If you come often enough, they may even begin to recognize you and know your order before you sit down. I even know someone that had a specific , unique role named after them. I have taken children here, but they must be well behaved. Regular menu prices may be a bit steep for a family of six, however, I think we have come to expect that for fresh sushi. You really do get what you pay for at Wasabi. read more

I ordered the honey rainbow roll to go. I ordered the wasabi roll for the dinner. Theres only 6 pieces. Its a roll with no rice or seaweed paper. It was presented beautifully but not very filling! Its also one of the highest priced menu item. I ordered the sangria bc it said there was watermelon, lychee, and all these other fruits. I was expecting fruits n my sangria and all it had was an orange slice as a garnish. It seems like nobody ever serves sangria with fruits as advertised. I was very pleased to find this Wasabi Restaurant in Way West Des Moines. It looks like they are equipped with anything authentic Japanese both food and drink. I popped in for lunch and had a Bento Box and I would say then the food was tasty and it was a good value which is important for quick lunch places. They have just expanded and they have created some nice visual areas. I was disappointed with their bathroom because they could have put more design sense in there and the layout was very tight but I understand that since they took a new Bae for their space they'll have additional restrooms and hopefully they'll give us some Zen feeling bathroom spaces. I'd be really happy to come back some evening and have a lot of sake and tasty sushi with friends. read more
