The market truly captures that charming European Christmas vibe at This Is The Place Heritage Park, with great vendors and delicious food (hello, bratwurst and giant soft pretzels!). The major issue is the crowd. Because it only runs for a few days, the entire place is packed with people. The lines and bottlenecking are intense, making it hard to really enjoy strolling around and meandering. You basically have to plan your entire experience around standing in lines for food. I really hope they consider extending the run time to spread out the crowds. It's a wonderful holiday tradition, just prepare for a serious crush of people.

The traffic just to get there is insane - we were stuck in traffic for over an hour justtrying to get to Sunnyside to park at the event. Would HIGHLY recommend going during the day to avoid the traffic, it's horrible. It's a free event to get into and great for families. If you go at night it's VERY crowded. To the point where it's hard to get around. This is a wildly popular event, and some of the popular food vendors have insanely long lines. When we were there between 7-8pm on Friday night, several of the vendors had sold out. The booths that the vendors are in are VERY small, only a couple people can be in them at a time which I think also causes the congestion. Hopefully in the future this will move to a bigger space or span over multiple weekends - it's obviously very loved by the community!

The inventory might be a little less than some of the other second hand stores in the game, but I think they might cater to an older, more classy audience than folks who want to look like they buy their clothes at a thrift store. (Nothing wrong with either group!) Based on the clientele I saw here, this is the perfect place to bring your mom or grandma or to get a lovely dress for a tea party with a matching hat. The sign had this super cheesy curly letter design and I just knew it was the real deal. The market was mostly Navajo jewelry and from what I could tell it was all very reasonably priced and high quality. There were a couple of vendors selling food too! We bought a breaksfast burrito and a corn cake. It was all delicious. We're pretty sure the tortilla in the breakfast burrito was handmade and the woman selling the corn cake, told us all about the significance of corn cakes in the Navajo culture. What an immersive experience! I heard that they are talking about doing these markets once a month. I hope they do this again! And I hope they expand the food vendors. We bought a couple of pieces of jewelry. I usually prefer buying ethnic jewelry or clothing directly from the person who identifies as part of that culture. Usually you will see better pricing and you are less likely to get ripped off. They can also explain the cultural significance so you know you won't be offending someone by accidentally buying something with a serious religious significance. I am very happy with what we got! It has now been another year with my son at St. John's CCDC and, if anything, my opinion of the…read moreschool has improved. He has "graduated" from the tiny kids room (12-18 mos.) to the Hoppers (18-24 mos.), then Crickets (24-~30 mos.), and now Fireflies (30-36 mos.). I was initially quite hesitant to agree to the Firefly room, as it is a small space with limited outside light (and no toilet!) set up for a few kids who were 30+ months and potty trained. As initially pitched to me, they were putting him there because they were "over-capacity" in the other rooms. Booooo! (Turns out, that is not a helpful selling point for any reasonably [fine, over]protective parent who understandably will object to putting her kidlet in what appears to be a sub-standard space so others can get the "good" room.) BUT IT HAS BEEN THE BEST THING EVER. He loves his tight-knit group of five Firefly friends and he loves the teacher (Ms. Alexandria) about as much as he does me. He has thrived in the small class atmosphere, which is full of all the art and nature and learning a little boy could want. He also still gets the benefit of the bigger classroom through visits to the Caterpillars (36-48 mos.) and has even been able to go on neighborhood walks and field trips with his little buddies. He is transitioning full time into the Caterpillars soon, as his third birthday is next week. The teachers there are already handling the transition perfectly by reaching out to include him as much as possible. Seriously, I love them. If there were ten stars, St. John's would have all of them.
