I have used Washington Framers Workroom many times since 201, for both for DIY framing and custom framing. I have always been impressed by the quality of their work and the professionalism of their staff. They have been a huge help to me as I got work ready to deliver to numerous group and solo exhibitions. Some of my pieces are three dimensional paper works that present particular challenges. Staff at Framers Workroom developed a special structure to present my folded paper lenticular pictures. They have also framed my work in shadowbox frames. I have had times when I needed to get a lot of work ready at once for exhibitions and they've been wonderful helping me meet deadlines. They have a wide selection of mats and have given me great advice on selecting the best choices for each piece. As an exhibiting artist, I view them as valuable partners in my practice. read more

I've had a 7 of my photographs framed here in the past two years and initially I was really pleased but their work does not age well. Two of my pieces are hanging in an exhibition right now that I had framed here exactly one year ago. The prints are warped and wavy under the glass now. I suppose I should have asked if they would mount the prints first but that is standard ( and they didn't ask me if I wanted it mounted so I assumed it would be). It's framing 101 with paper work- it will warp if it is not mounted and for the prices they charge they should have mounted the photos before framing. I'm horrified as I sold 3 of the seven I framed here and gifted another two - I'm horrified to think how those works look now. I am an actively exhibiting artist and I thought I had found my " forever framers" . I am very disappointed at the professionalism of this place and I do not recommend their services to anyone. --------Added IN REPLY TO THEIR RESPONSE on google : I have several pieces of photographic work framed over 10 years ago that are not waving under the glass. That is because the job was done properly. The works I have hanging right now have been stored in an air conditioned climate controlled space so blaming me here isn't going to work. Yes paper work will wave under glass if not properly stored but also if not properly framed, as you seem to know this then the you either 1-take the proper precautions while framing 2- bring it up and ask the client if that is a concern for them. I figured you were just doing it the proper way, I should not have assumed that is my fault. However at the prices charged for the work close to 300$ for each work and for what looks like a professional work space I assumed you would treat my work as the professional work that it is. You have one job as the name of the business implies. One can only conclude that you are cutting corners, cost saving or being sloppy, none of these are acceptable when it comes to business. A customer should not have to ask for the basics of framing BUT if they don't ask then it is your obligation to bring it up. Again you have one job- framing. As to writing this review before coming to you, the work is already hanging (embarrassingly) in a show at a museum. The other works have gone to their new owners (embarrassingly) and I have to live with knowing that the clients will think I delivered shoddy non archival work to them not realizing I was being taken advantage of by the framers. As I said I am a working artist and have been for a while, I sell work and have had work framed all over the world. This is the worst experience I have ever had. For the record - these prints are made a high quality archival photographic paper. A framer is the last stop in work being presented to the world and your establishment would do well to take that more seriously in the future. You are only as good as the work you put out into the world. That goes for everyone. What is done is done now. Coming to you when the show is over is pointless, my poorly framed work is hanging in a museum and my reputation is damaged because you guys couldn't do your job. Do better. read more

I have been going to Washington Framers Workroom (WFW) for over 30 years. I now live outside of Boston but I still bring things to frame when I visit DC because WFW is that good. They have a state-of-the art mat cutting machine that I've never seen anywhere else and their selection of mat colors and frames is incredible. I collect postage stamps from around the world and I frame some of them in 2" by 3" mini frames from Michael's. However, WFW cuts the mats for these frames and they are so precise (imagine matting a stamp!) that they look like little portraits. WFW can do one cut to a mat or several cuts and they're always exactly the right size. I also had WFW frame a free-standing piece of stained glass for me that now hangs in the bay window of my brownstone. They turned my piece of glass into a beautiful work of art! I would never go anywhere else for my framing in DC but unfortunately I now have to frame my bigger pieces in Boston :-( If you're lucky enough to live in or around DC please give them a try! Their staff and owner are long-time artisan framers who have years and years of experience and can turn your artwork into something amazing. If I could give them more than 5 stars I would! read more

We bought these authored pictures from my hometown in Italy and needed them framed. We got excellent advice from this shop, and the work was of superb quality. Although frames can be quite pricey, the quality is definitely worth the extra bucks. read more

Just came back from framing two pieces at Framers' Workroom and I couldn't be happier. My wife and I have no experience framing our own artwork, but the staff at the Workroom helped us through the entire process. It's the best of both worlds: we were able to save about 30% (if overall prices were cheaper, I'd probably rate this place 5 stars instead of 4) by putting the frames together ourselves, but were still able to take advantage of the staff's advice on mat and frame selection. We'll be going back the next time we have something to frame. read more

Giving this place 5 stars because of the friendliness of the staff and of the price. I'm a novice when it comes to framing, but these people made me feel like an expert. I had four decent sized items that I needed framed. Opted for the DIY framing and the total came to a little over $300. Compared to the quotes I got all over DC (nothing was below $500 and I even had as high as $1000) that price is a bargain. The DIY process was fun and easy. I had three or four people checking in on me to make sure I didn't screw it up, and this was on a very busy Saturday afternoon. Plus I was pressed for time and they helped me finish a larger piece I had. Definitely found my favorite framing place in DC and I will be coming here again. read more

First off, I'm going to agree with Jeffrey M., the first reviewer, that if overall prices were cheaper I'd give it 5 not 4. The experience was fantastic, but the prices were a bit above online pricing. I don't know that the 30% savings they claim is all that accurate. I will emphasize that "I don't know" means I lack knowledge. It's not idle skepticism and my online shopping let me realize that I didn't know enough about framing to spend the money and do it all myself. I walked in with a cheap poster that I wanted nicely framed. I was helped by Pat, who made the experience fantastic. She gave me all the assistance I needed, but not more. How she gauged my ineptitude so well, while letting me have some fun "making" my frame is a mystery to me. Pat walked me through the process, and helped my pick out the frame and matting with taste far better than my own. There was a bit of a delay getting my materials. That could improve, and I expect that anyone in a rush would have been frustrated. I budgeted 2 hours and was out well before that. I should also mention that it was fun. Any idiot can do it. We are idiots and these people are experts and they will never let you see one shred of condescension or impatience. They're friendly, cheerful and very, very helpful. You have the option of having them do all the work, but if you like to get involved, this is fun. We worked with Pat. She's terrific to work with. ADDED BONUS here: check out the art work in the stand next to the door and some on the walls. The work in the stand is done by the employees and a lot of it is very good, very interesting and wonderful for tucking into corners of your home. Some on the walls is theirs, too...some cool stuff. Framing costs so much these days ...being able to do some of the process myself seemed like a good way to save some money. I was very pleased with the super helpful attitude of the staff! I took in a complicated matting project for two different art pieces that I'd been procrastinating about for a very long time and got it all done in an afternoon. I have been going to Framers' Workroom for years to have my framing done. I love this place because they offer the option of framing your own artwork, which is so easy to do. Because framing costs can be high no matter where you go, if you DIY, there is no labor cost and their expert framers will walk you through the framing process. It's fun and you actually learn something! In addition, Framers Workroom has a large quantity of beautiful pre-made frames and mats for a fraction of the cost that a regular framing job would cost you. Their staff is especially good with difficult framing jobs and they have a great eye for color and what looks good. I just felt I needed to give them a shout-out because I had some work done there recently, and as always, it was a fun and rewarding experience, not to mention the beautifully framed picture I went home with! read more

I had a large piece of artwork to frame and they went above and beyond in terms of customer service even opening the blinds to show what the frame color would look like in a natural light. You can tell this place is quality because they give each customer the same level of service whether they are getting small posters or a valuable piece of art framed.
