The employees at Picasso are top-notch! They are kind, patient, helpful and they do beautiful work. It's the only frame shop I use.

We tried Picasso at the recommendation of a family friend who had a ton of expensive art framed there. We figured that if she trusted them, they had to be good. She was right! We've had several pieces framed at Picasso and the service has been outstanding. They take time to go over the job with you and recommend mats and frames that will best work with your poster, painting, etc. The service is professional and relatively quick. It isn't cheap but is a good value for the quality of work that they do. They treat you well whether you're framing a basketball poster or a fine piece of art. The shop has a real family-owned feel to it with two dogs that roam around and various family members working behind the counter. There is usually street parking available right in front of the store as well. read more

Phenomenal work. We brought in our wedding ketubah, which I had put off getting framed because I wanted to make sure I found the very best place to bring it. Abdi is incredible; he made excellent suggestions and walked us through a variety of different framing looks. When we were ready to make our decision, he wrote up estimates for all of our options so we could clearly see what we were getting. The final result was gorgeous and brings us so much joy every time we look at it. We also brought him a second piece, which looks fabulous as well. This is a superb framer -- incredibly nice and helpful, with fantastic taste and excellent options. Pricing struck me as very reasonable, and gallery owner was utterly transparent about options. I had a high-quality photograph beautifully framed with archival quality and plexiglass and could not be more pleased. They were patient in explaining all of the ways we could customize this important part of our life. I have been meaning to write this review since August. I had such a wonderful experience with Picasso Gallery Custom Framing! My husband and I were married in April. One of the most meaningful artifacts from our wedding is our Ketubah (Jewish marriage license). When my husband and I went to Israel, we met with the artist and commissioned a custom piece so it is extremely special to us on multiple levels. I was SO nervous about bringing it to a framer because it is one-of-a-kind and truly irreplaceable. After reading countless reviews on Yelp, I finally decided to put my trust in PGCF. As soon as I walked in the door, I knew we made the right decision. The woman we worked with paid such careful attention and was so gentle with our ketubah. She stayed with us and was patient as we hemmed and hawed plover the perfect frame and matting. She made wonderful suggestions. Then, when I mentioned we found her on Yelp, she gave us a discount! When we came back to pick up our Ketubah, it was EXACTLY as we had discussed--perfect! The man who was there that day was equally careful with our pieces (we also brought in another small piece) and, because it was raining, he offered to help us walk to the car with an umbrella. Talk about great service! I would definitely come back. Yes, custom framing is expensive, but I would only custom-frame REALLY important or special pieces, so it was worth it. Have delt with them in the past and had a possitive experience. Then I bought this deal from Living Social - Pay $60 and get a voucher for $150 worth of framing. Like I said, I've had things framed by Picasso's in the past and have been delighted. But once it was established that I was doing the voucher deal things took a turn. The price he quoted was un believable. The blatant gouging was unreal. When I questioned it the guy made all these excuses about rising prices in europe. I felt locked in because I had already spent the $60. I ended up having to pay an additional (substancial) fee beyond the $150. NEVER AGAIN! Bye-bye Picasso. read more

What a find. I had two paintings that were framed behind glass and a thick mat by the artist. I went in expecting to spend a small fortune to reframe the paintings and boy was i pleasantly surprised. Had such a great experience with this place! Was nervous about framing our wedding ketubah because it's such an expensive and important piece of art. I looked at several places and the people here were the nicest and most professional. Also being in the store, it's such a great community institution. So many cool people coming in and out but at the same time they could see me right away on a Saturday. My ketubah came out amazing! They spent so long with me considering mattes and frames, and we chose an option to highlight the colors of my piece and display the papercut ketubah well. It truly is stunning! When I went to pick up the finished piece, I brought a wedding invitation to be framed. Well they told me they would frame it for free, and again spent a good deal of time with me picking up a matte (we chose a blue to pick up the invitation ink) and a white frame. We got our wedding portraits framed at Picasso in Tenleytown. They did a beautiful job! Upon walking in I was a bit intimated --- soooo many options plus it was our first "important" frame job, and you know custom framing is expensive --- but the owner put me right at ease. He took the time to show me the frame and mat options he would recommend, then he let me walk behind the counter and try out all the frames I wanted. I ended up going with one of his recommendations, but it was nice to have the time to look at all the options and to then make up my mind. I was also pleased to see that the recommended frame was a reasonable price (as far as custom framing goes) and when I asked about the YELP discounts Picasso sometimes puts on, Rogar gave me the discount that had applied at the Dupont Circle location a month before: 30% off!!! Seriously, that is above and beyond service. My portraits were ready in two weeks, they look gorgeous, and I can't wait to hang them on my walls. ABSOLUTELY INCREDIBLE, HOSPITABLE, CARING, AND COMPREHENSIVE!! I have done ALL of my framing there for the last 3 years! Each time I visit the store, the owners make me feel right at home! They always take the time to ask me how things are, and they genuinely take pride in their work! I leave feeling completely accomodated, and the work is EXCELLENT and ARTISTIC in every way! I have had countless compliments on my framed pictures, not to mention the fact that they will bring years of fond memories to myself and my family!! One day I needed a picture framed rather quickly; I realized the shop was exceptionally busy. However, the owner was determined to accomodate my request. It was a picture that represented years of hard work, and life sacrifice. The owner had no idea the gift he was helping to shape; he made someone's heart skip a beat when that person unwrapped the picture and held it in their hands. Bought a groupon for this business and have essentially thrown that money away. The price quote was out of this world. (I buy art from around the world and frame pieces regularly.) $150 for plastic spacers for an appr. 20 X 30 frame! Just to give a sense of how expensive that is, had I bought these myself, they would cost $3.00 at Pearl Paint in Manhattan and $2.50 in Washington DC. Even with the labor mark up, I ultimately paid $22 at a different framing gallery. Picasso wanted to charge $455 for a basic wood frame that I paid about $100 for at another gallery. (Bought directly at an art store, the retail price is about $50 for the exact same size and material.) The people were nice but their price quote of about 1100 to 1400 for the size of the artwork and quality of framing materials was way overpriced. In the end, I went to a nearby gallery that had the option to frame parts of work myself for 25% of Picasso' s price quote - same framing materials including Museum Glass! Had I not framed it myself, the regular price quote was still half of the $1100 - with museum glass. (Even less than that with regular glass.) I understand the need to mark up for labor and profit but this markup was outrageous and it seemed like they assumed I didn't know anything about framing. I learned never to buy a groupon for framing and suggest getting a breakdown of the costs per item. Then shop around. There are other framing galleries in DC and nearby VA that produce excellent work at an incredibly cheaper cost. read more
