The entrance is on Jennifer Street NW and a bit tucked away. The store is wholly underground. It is surprisingly bigger than expected, with a vast assortment of home decor and seasonal items. I parked across the street in an underground garage across Wisconsin Avenue for only $6.50 for all-day parking. You can try your luck with street parking. They had a ton of Christmas clearance at 70% off. I bought a bunch of DIY paint canvases at $3 each--what a deal! They have several self-checkout registers and attendants to assist you. read more

This store is one of my girlfriend's favorite place to shop. She suggested that I come here to purchase specific clothing dye because this chain of stores is the only place that carries it. When I walked in, I was surprised to see Christmas trees already on display. It's now early October and possibly slightly early for Christmas decorations. Apart from that, this store is filled with all things craft related. They have so many items that you would not be able to find anywhere else. Like the dye for example. I needed to ask one of the employees about where the dye was located and they were helpful enough to walk me over there. Crafters get ready, because we now have a metro-accessible Michael's. Exit Friendship Heights' Jennifer Street, turn left, turn left before crossing the street (past the mattress store) and go down into the basement. It's still not the same size and thus doesn't have the same selection as your suburban box store would, but it's 1000x better than the nothing we had before. I was able to pick up everything I needed for my Halloween costume (green clothing dye, buttons, ribbon, glue sticks, embroidery floss, thread) and some other stuff (office supplies) that I did not necessarily need. The line moves quickly and the staff seem to be (maybe just because it's new) shipped in from other locations so they are well-versed in what Michael's has and where it might be. They have a framing department and lots of yarn, and a couple of aisles of children's crafts. Overall the selection is not as robust as at other locations, given the smaller size of this store, but I'm happy to have this option for most of the basics. read more

We did a lot of framing jobs with the store and the quality decreased drastically over the years. The last framing was not an exception. Looking back on the experience, I should have asked for the manager from the beginning, but I was trying to be nice to the associate who clearly didn't know what she was doing. DO NOT MAKE THE SAME MISTAKE!!! Just picked up the finished product and it had the wrong hanging system, which we specifically requested with the same associate. They changed it to a correct system in 5 mins wit's additional holes in the expensive frame. When I indicated that I want the frame remade, I was told NO. Only manager could authorize that and he/she is never in the store so I had to come back. When I said that we specifically indicated the hanging system with the associate standing in front of us, we were told that they have a lot of new associates and they are still in training. Since they didn't have that request in the system, what can I do? As a result, I spent $350 on a frame, got blamed for the associate mistake, and have a frame with unnecessary HOLES!!! Do not go to this location for framing and choose another one or completely different chain!!! read more

Granted like any retail store, especially in Western culture, one can experience attitude and unfriendliness, but the majority of times this store has top notch customer service. This place is pure TRASH!!! We have had interactions with them three times over the last few days, and each time, there has been an issue. The first time, I called because one of the frames that we ordered online arrived with broken glass. 1 out of 20 broken isn't a big deal. I asked if I could come in and they could honor the price I paid online, since the coupon had now been used. Jennifer, with a particularly nasty disposition, said they couldn't guarantee I didn't break it myself, so there's nothing they could do. I was offended, as I wasn't asking for a refund or anything. I just wanted the same price on a replacement. I was willing to go through the toll-free number to get resolution on having paid for a broken frame. After asking for a manager, she said they'd give me a 40% coupon as a "one-time courtesy." Umm. The 40% off coupon was available online, so this didn't really mean anything. The second interaction was the next day when I went shopping in store. The Siser Easyweed had a sign that said $9.99 each. Like a good crafter, I grabbed 10 rolls (cuz duh!). There was also a 20% off all purchases, including sale items, coupon, which should've made them $7.50 each. When I got to the register, the vinyl was ringing up for $18.99 each, BOGO50%. NO MA'AM. She told me I'd have to take a photo of the sign. I had nothing but time and opportunity, so I made my way back to the shelf. I heard her on the radio telling someone to go check. As I arrived, an employee was coming to take the sign down. But I am quick on the draw, and already snapped a pic. Turns out, that price expired the day before. Well, this was 3 pm, so they'd had plenty of time to remove it, and the way my days run together, I had no idea what day it was #thanksCOVID. She reluctantly said she'd honor the price cuz it "was kind of our fault for still having it up," but admonished that next time I should "look at the signs more carefully." Bihhhhh.... Strike 3 was when I went to pick up my curbside order. Sometimes, my wife runs errands when I'm doing things around the house, so thankfully I had listed her as the pickup person. When the store employee brought the items to the car, I showed my wife's ID (she was driving). They said they needed to see mine. If she's LISTED ON THE ORDER, why?!?!?! I explained that I didn't have ID on me (switched purses at the last minute), and asked why it mattered. She said they've been dealing with people stealing things. Well, her name is on the receipt, so how would it be theft? Finally, I realized I had a debit card (sans photo, so it really didn't prove anything), and she accepted it. If you want friendly service, go to the Michael's on Rockville Pike. I approached a store associate and in a kind voice said "Excuse me, do you know where I can find stamps with letters?" Perfectly normal way to ask for help. Her response was "hi, how are you?" in a sassy voice. I assumed she didn't hear me properly. I reply, "I am good, thanks. Do you know if you have the stamps in talking about?" Again, she said "hi, how are you?" I said "I am good..? Do you know where the stamps are?" And once again she said "hi, how are you?" Now I knew really what she wanted. I said "hi, how are you? Do you have the stamps I'm talking about," and with an extreme amount of attitude she just pointed and said "look over there." I told her her attitude was very rude. She wanted a "hi, how are you?" before helping a customer but when helping the customer was STILL rude. Just go to a different Michael's. There all over the place in this area. I put the items I had planned to buy there back and went to the other Michael's where the customer service was outstanding and no store associate required me to say "hi how are you?" in order to receive assistance. Her attitude lost the store a loyal customer and a great deal of money as I had a large basket full of items to purchase. Michael's technically has more inventory, but I prefer to go to smaller craft stores. The staff here are generally unfriendly and unhelpful, even if the store is not busy. They also don't seem very knowledgeable and seem to have poor attitudes. One associate at the register did appear to find me a discount coupon on her own, however (though I did sign up for the email list). read more

I ordered an easel and a bunch of art supplies online for me and my kids to do some art projects at home during this quarantine. I got busy and didn't make it to the store in time by the pickup date and assumed they were reputable and would simply cancel my online order and refund my money. Before I could follow up to find out why I still hadn't gotten a refund, I get an email saying I had picked up my order. Mind you I have been working at home ALL day long and have never set foot in the store. WTH? That is very shady! Did you even ask for any ID before giving my order to someone else and charging me in full? I tried to call customer service and got some dumb bot that can't even answer any questions. I tried customer service only to realize that they don't even have real people responding to calls or complaints. With ALL these unemployed people, they won't bother to hire anyone to help them properly service their customers. Once I get my $$$ back, I will never order anything from Michael's again! read more

Seems as though excellent Customer Service is a thing of the past. I was quite disturbed at the lack of assistance I received at the Michaels located at 5252 Wisconsin Ave. N.W. Washington, D.C. I walked in the door prepared to spend hundreds of dollars for a large group painting event. I practically had to beg for assistance and the assistance that I received was less than stellar. They offered no solution. They didn't have the quantity that I needed in stock. They didn't offer to order them for me to ensure that I received them in time for the event. The manager was horrible. I had to take my money elsewhere. And they went above and beyond to ensure that my needs were met. I hope that there will be some type of customer service training. We as customers now have so many other options. However, every potential customer should receive such great service that they won't venture elsewhere. read more

I've been coming to Michaels for the past few months to get professional certificates framed. The woman within the framing department is always kind and seems to really enjoy what she does. One of my framed certificates had fallen off of my wall, and as a result, the frame had cracked. I brought it back in, and Michaels fixed it free of charge. She said that because she had told me they would be able to repair the frame before I left, she wouldn't charge me, even though Michaels had to actually send it out to have a new frame placed around the certificate. Okay so I must confess that I come here probably on a weekly basis, so I'm very biased. I love that its convenient to metro. For an urban store, it has lots of inventory. I seldom have to travel to the suburbs to get items they don't stock. The layout of the store makes it very easy to navigate. This place stays very busy, especially on weekends with families & kids. I also see lots of art students and familiar faces--crafts-maker regulars whenever I visit. The staff is helpful, and will go out of their way to help you locate items, and recommend other stores where you can purchase items they don't stock. I've seen staff courteously accommodate extremely demanding and difficult customers. And although the line can sometimes get long, its simply reflects on how popular the place is, and how well it meets the arts, crafts, and other creative needs of its customers. read more

This time is was some kind of tiara base, last time it was Velcro, the time before that I was just looking for a decent silver paint pen. I'm going to preface this by saying I don't enjoy writing this review and I really don't like being this person, but after three poor interactions with the Framing Department I'm extremely frustrated. I am an artist and I've had my work matted and framed at Michaels before. So when I sold my latest commission I of course went back to Michaels based on prior good experiences with the framing Department. I ordered my painting to be simply matted on white mat board nothing fancy. My order was ready within a couple days and I went to pick it up but when I got home and took it out of its cardboard, and that was my fault for not inspecting it at the store, I realize that it was not acceptable. There were obvious cut lines from the scalpel apparent in the mat board, they were ragged edges along the outside and even a smudge in the corner. One side of the mat was completely on it here to the back. I returned the piece to Michaels and ask that they remain at it with all the little mistakes removed so that it would come out in a beautiful professional looking style . I didn't hear back anything for 2 weeks which was extremely odd because they guarantee a call for pickup within one week and I've never had a problem with it before. I called the store and they said the item is ready for pickup and they noted in their computer that no attempt had been made to call me and were also confused. I went to the store a couple days later to pick up my piece and the matting was still ragged-looking. The man who works in thst department looked less than impressed when I asked him to clean it up and the manager was completely patronizing when I asked for help. Needless to say, I won't be using them again and hope those who want professional - looking jobs and courteous service, will also look elsewhere. read more
