So, started my night with raspberry meatballs...raspberry & mustard sauce...excellent combo of sweet & tangy. Then had homemade crabcakes with homemade Mac n cheese & Brussel sprouts. Mac n cheese excellent creamy cheese sauce & a smoked flavor. Now- the crabcakes might be the best in the area! Nice golden brown outside with a slight crisp to the edges. Then you get into the middle and generous chunks of crabmeat with the perfect flavor! I'd say it's 20% filler and the rest crab! They have a really nice outside area with bands on Friday & Saturdays. What can I say other than the atmosphere was straight out of the 1990s. Once you get past the exceedingly dark, and I do mean dark, it was in the dining room. And, a very loud speaker blared 1980s and 1990s music. Loud and obnoxious music was not what most people want for a Valentine's Day dinner with one's wife. A quiet dinner with conversation would be more along the line of what couples would like. We had heard and read some good reviews of their cooking. Frankly, we were more than disappointed. We ordered our appetizers of bread with oil and steamed clams. The bread with oil was six dollars which is a lot for a very small loaf of bread and oil. Taste was so-so, at best. The steamed clams were twelve dollars and the clams were the smallest I have ever seen in my life. They were the size of a dime. I have had all sorts, sizes, preparations and types of clams in many countries. These were the absolute smallest clams and they had no taste whatsoever. Let's talk about the house salads we each ordered. Small would be an understatement. Very small plate of lettuce for the salad, one one-eighth inch thick one-inch diameter cucumber slice, two one-half inch diameter cherry tomatoes and two one-quarter inch thick by three inch long pepper slices. Our dinner entree was the chicken for $26.00 and $24.00 respectively. My wife said her Red Eye chicken was good but definitely not worth the price. My Monterey chicken was very blasé and what you expect for half the price. With the cost over $75.00, not including tip, the meal would have been an extreme disappointment at $40.00. At $75.00, words cannot adequately describe this poor and completely overpriced the meal for Valentine's Day. It was insulting. I would for sure recommend a different place to dine for the amount of money you spend. The bar tenders don't know how to make most cocktails, I know I live in the skook but not everyone just drinks beer. The crab cakes were almost $30 and they were very soggy, and had a bland taste to them. The fries they came with them were cold. I ordered a brisket sandwich, and I couldn't even pick it up. My fingers went straight through the sandwich, very greasy. I understand why they were voted "best kept dining secret." No one wants to go there. read more

The Washington Hotel is essentially a bar with very, very good food. Definitely worth a visit.

First time I have ever been here. Being a history buff, I was very pleased with the interior. The bar area is very welcoming. The dining room is spread out enough where you have privacy between tables. Onto the food. I ordered the wings and a cuban, wife had the pretzel coated chicken, my son had the smoked mac and cheese with pulled pork. WIngs - WOW....cooked perfect, i can honestly say I have never had a wing that was crispy and tender as these ones. had 6 sweet heat and 6 creamy mild. Flavors were spot on, sweet heat is the bomb, excellent. Creamy mild was equally as good. Wings were coated with just the right amount of sauce, hate when you have to go fishing for them in a pool of sauce. Cuban - Excellent, I love the Cubans from Smokey Bones, but now I do not have to drive as far, this Cuban had it all. I like mine with a little extra BBQ sauce to dip it in, but for got to ask for it. Pretzel Chicken - had an awesome flavor and was juicy and tender. The honey mustard sauce was very good. Smoked Mac and Cheese - nom nom nom .... that was all we heard from my son. He was in heaven, he loves mac and cheese and pulled pork. This mac and cheese had the perfect amount of smoke, nothing worse than over smoked cheese. He brought the rest home and had it for supper the next day, Wing night is on a Tuesday. This establishment is also a hotel, which I haven't visited. My review is strictly based on my experience with the restaurant. We were lucky enough to grab a reservation for Mother's Day, even though I called the evening before. Entering by the front door, you will find yourself in the bar area, the dining room is in the back. It is a small, quaint dining room, which I found to be dimly lit. I would have liked it to be a little brighter so it would be easier to read the menu, particularly for our older family members. We were greeted and seated quickly, all seven adults and two children. They had pushed two tables together to accommodate all of us, which was just fine. I wish I would have asked our server for her name, (shorter blonde woman with a sweet smile) she was outstanding. Our group wasn't an easy crowd to please, yet she was charming. She brought us a high chair for my younger grandson while answering questions about the menu and taking drink orders. A few family members had special requests regarding their meals. Our server asked the chef if he would accommodate us, and gladly, he did so! The service here was just wonderful. Being a large group, we ordered a variety of menu items, including appetizers and desserts. Everyone commented that their food was delicious. I would like to see the management work on expanding the menu. The entrée options were somewhat limited, but delicious none the same. My husband and I will definitely be coming back on our visits home (we currently live in NJ, but visit our family once or twice a month). I understand that the restaurant recently reopened under new management, and I must say they are doing everything right! I would categorize the restaurant as upscale casual. Best dining experience I've had in a long time! The food was delicious, highly recommend the steamed clam appetizer and twin lobster tail dinner, they were both scrumptious and cooked to perfection. The staff is personable, professional and friendly, the owner, Brandon, even came to introduce himself and check on how we were enjoying our meal!
