I was really excited to try this place after hearing great things from friends and the community. I was not only disappointed, I'm disgusted. I ordered two ham and cheese hoagies and a hot roast beef with sharp provolone and hot peppers. The ham and cheese hoagies had two slices of ham- it was more like an oil and onion hoagie that was falling apart. The roast beef didn't have the hot peppers on it like I ordered so when I called, he just told me he was very sorry and didn't try to make it right. I ate almost half of the ham and cheese hoagie when I bit into something hard which was a piece of wood. I'm assuming the wood came from a cutting board but I still find this completely unacceptable. Really wanted this to be good and it could be. BUT, the place is a mess. Not clean, messy, cluttered. Really no pride. I walked in and placed my order. They were out of a few things. Ordered a mix of sandwiches, some small, some large. I had sat down at a table to wait, that's where the rolls and tomatoes were kept. Not sure why, there was ample room behind the counter. point being same rolls despite ordering different sizes. Portion of meats were skimpy, one hoagie didn't have cheese. If you are a clean freak stay away. I have friends who would walk out after walking in. That would not deter me! I wanted the roast pork but the sandwich was for later and the owner absolutely would not deconstruct the sandwich. It would have been a soggy mess if I took it home to eat later. I got Chicken parmigiana. It was served over spaghetti. A real bargain for $9. I'd say get the parmigiana as a sandwich. Skip the pasta. Jimmy cooked for 75 people, all the food that we had was absolutely delicious and it was a great price point. I've lived in Phoenixville since '85, but I'm originally from S. Philly. So hoagies are a sacred topic (I've adjusted to the fact that Phoenixville has historically called them zeps or stuck them in the oven and called them grinders). The Ultimate Italian Hoagies, hot pork and roast prime rib sandwiches (the only things I've tried on the menu so far) are probably the best for miles around. Sharp provolone. Good rolls from Conshy. Quality meat. Great roast pork. Home-made long-hots. Great for lunch; head in early for dinner; they're not open late. Wasko's is not on restaurant row (downtown Bridge St.) or Hoagie & Pizza Pike (Route 23 / Nutt Rd), but it's worth venturing through town to find the place if you want a good sandwich. Just got a couple of zeps for Wasko's and it was just like I took a trip back in time. One of the benefits of growing up where I did is that Norristown was the birthplace of zeps and Eve's Zeps were always the standard set for all other zep makers. Wasko's studied their zep making very well because the meats & provolone were perfect. The bread was bakery fresh (probably Conshy Rolls or Collegeville Bakery) and perfect. But the best part (and key in my mind) is the fresh tomatoes and onions because when you season the zep and it mixes with the juices from the tomatoes and onions it turns into an explosion of taste in your mouth. That's what I remember when I was young and that's what they delivered at Wasko's. My new favorite sandwich joint. Yum! read more

I have been driving past this place for years and always was going to stop in and try it out. I did so earlier this year and have been back a dozen times. I have picked up sandwiches for coworkers who can't believe how good the sandwiches are. Pork is the best. The prime rib my wife loves. We ordered pickup today and got a couple roast porks and classic italians...I personally swear by the pork here and haven't even tried anything else on the menu. It's quite tasty! The Italian Hoagies were good, according to my coworkers, but not WOW! Wasko's catered my 55th Birthday Party on May 16, 2009. The meatballs were fantastic! Jim really knows how to cook! We also had roast pork sandwiches, giant spinach ravioli, and a salad. My only complaint was the tomato sauce did not live up to the wonderful meatballs. That's okay, we strained the sauce off the leftovers and doused them with our favorite sauce: Bertolli Tomato and Garlic. Wasko's pork sandwiches were how I fell in love with the place to begin with. Jim roasts his own Italian peppers. His sister, Patty, makes the meat balls. OH MY! The serviings were generous. We love this guy. He's about as real as a person can be. Jim also makes delicious specials during the week. He gave me a taste of his Chicken Divan. Ahhhhhh! Beware, he closes at 6 PM so get your order in early! Prices are reasonable. Parking is ample. First time I experienced delicious sandwiches from Wasko's I was not even living in the area, but somebody brought me one of their sandwiches and since then I've gone out of my way to incorporate it into my diet! Their steak sandwich is delicious, add the horse radish sauce and it's out of this world. Wasko's is a great food shop. It's one of those places that are constantly remembered, but unfortunately dying in a more fast-paced world. I had a prime rib sandwich, and spoke to the clerk inside for a few about my time here so far--he could tell I wasn't from Phoenixville, lol; just because I was so astounded by my surroundings and the breath taking calm, and beauty on a Wednesday afternoon. Went here for lunch with some coworkers. The place isn't much to look at on the inside or out but it's definitely a don't judge a book by its cover situation. I got a hot roast pork sandwich with provolone and long hots. I have to say that it was pretty amazing. My coworkers were pleased with their sandwiches too. My only complaint is that the guy behind the counter could be a bit more hospitable. He seemed a tad cold and aloof with us. So it seems they've got sandwiches as good as you'll get at some Philly joints, and a bit of a Philly attitude to boot. He wasn't rude so I can deal with it. The place is not much to look at, the menu is limited, the hours are brief and there's almost no seating in the place (about enough for like 8 people tops) but once people try the sandwiches here they'll come back regardless because hey, this food is stinking good! read more

Wasko's is one of the great take out mom/pop neighborhood establishments that is tucked in a location in town that is not on Main St and you always hope stays around a long long time. The roast pork subs/zeps are excellent. Have them with the homemade hot peppers; the peppers have just enough zing to them without being overwhelming and add excellent flavor to compliment the thinly sliced fresh roast pork. The sub/zep roll is fresh and works perfectly with the roast pork/peppers; not too much pull on the bread to make the sub/zep messy and not too soft to cause the juiciness of the pork/peppers/cheese to leak through the bread. Make sure to add provolone to the mix and you have one great sandwich that you know you are going to make at home any day of the week. Also order some delicious homemade pierogies (I hade the cheese/potato) to bring home with you. They were frozen but are homemade. I placed them in salted boiling water for about 6 minutes (dont overcook them or they will fall apart in the boliing water) and then fried them in melted butter for about 2 minutes per side until they were lightly browned. They were awesome! I travel through Pa/NJ/NY/CT weekly and always seeking all types of on the go excellent bneighborhood mom/pop food (especially subs/zeps/wedges/hoagies). I had to laugh at the Jason K's comments about the guy behind the counter at Wasko's. I call him the "Surly Sandwichmaker" because he is cranky but he sure can make a great hoagie!! My favorite is still the prime rib!! I recently hosted my husband's polish family and Wasko's made the most AMAZING pierogies and keilbasa.....they ate it all!!
