This has been the worst experience I've had with any business in my life . We've had service for 7 weeks and my trash has only been picked up once THAT WHOLE TIME!!! I've called over and over at least 3 times a week staying on hold over an hour almost everytime to get the same bs . I've spoke with supervisors and they've ensured me it would get done, one even going as far as saying he'd have a truck sent out that day and one again on my regular pick up day . They didn't show up either day. I had Waste Management years ago and they were horrible. I was receiving service through Tennessee Trash and Waste Management bought them out. Since they took over we have had nothing but problems again. Our account got messed up in the transfer and money has been lost. The truck drivers are incredibly rude and will cuss you if you try to ask a question. Do not use this service. I would rather take my own trash to the dump. I'd like to give an honest review without sounding like a complaining Karen. So here goes. Simply said, this company has the worst customer service as well as general service of any company I've ever had the experience of working with. Trying to navigate their automated phone system is a nightmare. Calling at 9am, It says they are currently closed, and when it tells you the "normal" business hours are 7am-5pm, it's quite frustrating. Got cutoff multiple times trying to speak with someone as well. I think this is part of their strategy, just bury their heads in the sand and customers with issues will go away until next week. Out of sight, out of mind. I've had multiple issues over the years with them, but the issue today was a missed pickup, something that happens regularly. The automated system gives you an option to request a missed pickup. After getting through several steps of that process, that's when the phone system cuts you off and hangs up. It wouldn't matter anyway though. We've had many missed pickups before and when requested they simply say "we will add it to our schedule and get to you as quick as possible". This ends up being the next scheduled pickup date. So now we are stuck with an extra week of trash and no way to dispose of it. We could put it in our extra trash can and let them take that too on the next pickup, however they changed their policy a couple years ago to not let their drivers exit the vehicles due to safety concerns. Since they don't get out of the trucks now, they also won't pick up any extra trash cans or anything at all that's outside of a can. So what can we do? Can't do anything at all except bend over an take it. We cancelled then e before and switched to a smaller company for years that we were very happy with, but guess what? WM bought them out. So we got sucked back in. The issue we had this time was that they didn't pick up our recycling bin. This service is done only every two weeks. So we are full as usual. We checked our account online, and the notification said "bins not located outside for pickup". This is a total lie. Of course they were out there, they didn't get our neighbors him either. Which of course, was also out there the night before as always. We live in a smaller culdesac off a larger street. They likely just either forgot our street or didn't feel like driving the large truck down the culdesac. They picked up everyone else in our subdivision. So what will we do now. Well get over it, we always do, as there are way more important things in life to worry about. But after years of terrible customer service, I felt the need to leave this review to let this company know how awful their service is. We will switch to another service again, as will several other people in our neighborhood after many recent issues. WM won't even notice or care. But hopefully this message is seen by some human somewhere that cares at least a little and maybe decides to make an effort to change things. read more

The hold times for a rep are insane! After 20 minutes of hold time, the rep disconnected the call. Called back a second time, another 20 min hold, to schedule a bulk pick up. Recording says to schedule online, the website says to call to schedule service. Chat feature is a joke. I have been on hold for over an hour now and no resolve. I am a retired person who spent 30 years in the corporate world and I have NEVER seen a corporation with such poor business practices as WM. I retired 5 1/2 years ago and have seen a 88% increase in my bill over that span. It's almost doubled in price. I pay my bills on the first of every month. The bill to WM was placed in the mail and promptly lost by the USPS. All of my bills were lost. It cost me over $200 to stop payment on all of the checks. When WM sent me a new bill, a check was cut on the same day. Upon receiving my new bill, I noticed a $70 resume service fee was being charged to my account. I promptly called WM Customer Service and was put on hold for over an hour. 2 days later someone called and said they were not authorized to make a decision on the matter and would transfer me to a residential specialist who could help me out. I was placed in the customer service queue for another hour wait. Nobody ever picked up the phone. This is the WORST customer service I have ever experienced in my lifetime and quite possibly the WORST in all of the UNITED STATES. I am ending all business dealings with WM asap. I refuse to do business with such a poorly run company. They deserve a negative star rating if one was available. read more

Waste management is the worst company i have ever dealt with.we moved down here about 2 years ago and were from New jersey.the first couple of months they were great.then all of a sudden they missed pickup for days shortly turned into weeks.asked the driver who at last pickup whats going on? Said they were down a truck. Terrible to do business with. My family used their services for a bulk pickup issue. Due to no fault of ours, they returned the pickup materials, and proceeded to charge us double. We called and worked out a payoff amount over the phone to end our services. They accept the payment and then turned around and turned over the remaining amount to collections. Waste Management is the nicest waste company I've ever used. They wave all the time, and if the kids are lined up to wave at them, they'll wave and honk their horn (it makes the kids so excited). They also go the extra mile by picking up things that fall out, and helping me push my can to the top of the drive if I'm having trouble. I highly recommend them. read more

Waste Management has missed me two weeks in a row and then lied to me every day telling me that they would pick me up by 6:00 pm. When I call, the drivers have marked that it's been picked up. In December 2021, I called WM to schedule a bulk pick up for several items. The dispatcher I spoke to that day scheduled out dates until June of 2022 for bulk pick up items because they are not allowed to pick up more than one item per month with out a charge. TWO of the three pick ups that should have happened by now have not actually happened when they were supposed to! And I'm so tired of being put on hold for hours before someone can talk to me. I mean, I spent three hours on hold, three different times when I was trying to resolve our first pick up issue, and it still never got resolved except one Thursday, it was just gone. Now we have a mattress set out to be picked up, and they haven't come today AGAIN. What a terrible way of doing business with people! read more

We were automatically switched to WM after they bought out TN Trash Service. WM is the worst trash service ever! We continually had to call to get our trash or recycle picked up because they wouldn't pick up as scheduled. Some times we'd go up to 3 weeks before they'd pick up. We would call almost daily to request a pick-up. We finally canceled our service and asked them to pick up their containers. We've called several times to remind them to pick up the containers and refund our balance. Still waiting on both items, it's been four weeks. read more

I have read several of the posts on here about WM. We have been having major issues with them also! For 4 weeks now I have had to call them to come pick up our trash that is ALWAYS put out the night before the pick up day. They tell us the same thing. "Driver says it wasn't out" I have checked the internet for other companies in town and have found Ward Waste Systems that services most of Knoxville. It is Veteran owned. We are going to cancel WM and going with Ward. Had TN Trash and they were great! WM is terrible! Customer service wont answer phone, chat or emails! Good luck if you have to contact them! read more

This company is terrible. I have had my garbage picked up 1 time in a month and they have charged full rates. Everytime I call it's another excuse. This is not a hard concept. Waste Management took over TN Trash and have been with both for many years now. I have never been a day late with my payments every 3 months. This month my bill went from $71.56 I paid the last 3 months to $145.17, double the other rate I was paying. They quit picking up anything left outside the trash can just recently and went up double on the bill. I will not be using them in the future. I just hope I can find another company very soon since my bill is due the first of October. I have canceled my service and if I read the fine print carefully I will have to pay over $70 for removal of the trash can. I probably could have lived with a small increase but not a double one. When they first took over from TN Trash it was in the $50 something range every 3 months. I know things are more expensive but this is ridiculous. read more

I can't even Give this company a star. Worst customer service I have ever received from any company ever. Have had 3 trash cans located outside our condo resisidences since Feb and March of 2021. Have repeatedly called to have removed and nothing. Didn't get service or trash pick up for weeks before that all while being charged for services that weren't being done. Try Ward Waste. Waste Management's customer service is worst of all companies I have ever worked with. They are worse than the notoriously bad cable companies and big banks. They bought out our locally owned waste collection company and then raised our price 18% (this should be an FTC and SEC issue) but WM is adequately lawyered up (but not adequately staffed in customer service) and they wisely know the law and agreed to reduce our price for the year back to our old price because we called. Preservation of the old rate probably was a condition of getting approval from FTC and SEC. That said, I was also told the price will again revert to the higher price after the year and I will need to call back again to get back to the rate of the prior business ownership. Their IT systems are a disaster of inflexibility so the payment at the old rate was considered an under payment until it could reset/refresh but that rest never occurred and so it remained for several days and we got a charge of $50 for underpayment / reinstatement, which I called and had removed but then a month later the $50 reinstatement fee came back. Every time we call we find it hard because they insist you use the on-line system but there is no way to address these type issues on-line. So they torture their customers with a long set of prompts and then the phone drops. If it does not drop you are put on hold for a long time. On one occasion, I was on hold for 1 hr and 45 min and then was dropped. You would think I would switch garbage service after such a bad experience but because we have the old company rate it would cost more to switch, additionally they charge a $75 fee to terminate service which should also be illegal but they couch this fee as a fee for the barrel removal not a fee to reduce ability to switch. I almost never post a review but I feel WM needs to know they have a lot of work to do to get to a reasonable level of customer service. The people in customer service are kind but their systems are not. Also the federal government if they monitor compliance with any deal they struct related to the acquisition needs to know and lastly but very importantly, I want as few as possible to be subjected to such a nasty experience. If you look at the reviews you can see they are the worst. And my experience confirms it. If you are able to select away from Waste Management at a similar cost you surely should. If not, be prepared for a terrible experience if you have to call or anything goes wrong with the payment systems. read more

if I could give this company zero stars I would. I signed up for new service in Knoxville Tennessee when I moved. It's been over two weeks now and they have not delivered my trash containers. And they refuse to pick up the trash if it's not in their waste management container so I have over two weeks of trash from moving into a new house that they will not pick up. I have called at least five times you speak to a different person every time he's located somewhere other than where you are. It is the most unhelpful worthless company I have ever dealt with. Do not use this company! This morning I was told if I would get the trash to the curb in any container they would pick it up. So at 6 AM this morning I walked a total of over a half a mile to get trash to the main road. We live off a long driveway. They did not pick it up! We are a business that rented a dumpster from Waste Management. We requested the dumpster to be delivered at the earliest on the next day. We were told by 11pm. At 1:30pm my project manager calls and advised no dumpster. I call Waste Management, they advise that it should be within the hour. 2 hours later at the end of the day still no dumpster. I call again. Customer service is rude and unhelpful. I request an ETA. I was told it is in route. Same story I heard the 2 hours before. I used another company before switching to Waste Management. Tennessee Trash sucked, bigtime. They delivered a dumpster and bent my cyclone fence, saying I couldn't "Prove" the orange paint on the fence was theirs. It was 18 inches away and the same height as the dumpster! I've had no problems with Waste Management. They're on time and place my trash bin askew to let me know it's empty. These guys earn my respect. read more

Highly do not recommend this company. We are an apartment community located in West Knoxville. We have reached out to Waste Management for a week now. Our compactor has been full for a week now and every time we try to get this issue resolved there is no resolution. We had a scheduled pick up for LAST THURSDAY, they came to the property before we were OPEN, and someone had dropped items off in front of the gate which blocked the compactor. Since we were not in office when they arrived and was NOT aware of the situation they decided to skip the trash pickup that day and when we call to get this rescheduled they say that they have submitted a support ticket to have the day changed and will have someone call us back but we have yet to receive a call back nor has the issue been resolved and we currently have about 50 bags sitting in front of the compactor and with that being said we will most likely have an additional 50 bags tomorrow morning!!! I just wanted to provide feedback. I would like to know where in a contract, fine print when signing up, or on the bill, it states that service will be stopped if there is a balance on a bill. I have searched high and low and am very frustrated that my service was interrupted because of a 27 dollar balance. WITH NO WARNING. There was no warning on the bill. There was no phone call or email. This is NOT THE WAY TO DO CUSTOMER SERVICE! I would like to see this in print somewhere. I had an unpaid 15 dollar balance because when I called and signed up it was mid August. The representative charged me 75 dollars which was for my first three months of service. She failed to tell me that would be payment for September, October, and November and that I would later be billed for August. Since the August bill was not paid (probably lost in the shuffle of our move) I was hit with a late fee on the current bill. This was in the mail yesterday and I planned to call today to have it taken care of. This morning our trash was left in front of our home and not picked up because of the balance. The representative said "It's like any other bill. If it's unpaid, service is interrupted". Yes, I get that.....but when was I contacted? When was I told this would happen? I get interrupting service if you're a month behind on electric or your cell phone, etc. but our account is paid through November minus the prorated August fee their representative NEVER TOLD ME ABOUT. I am livid.....and just waiting out the next three months so I can make a switch. Ridiculous customer service and absolutely no compassion or understanding for the inconvenience. read more
