Rates constantly going up and rates are excessive. They're right up there with PUD & Lake Stevens Sewer District as my favorites.

Akers replaced my waterline from the street, under a granite rockery and a concrete walkway. They…read moredid very professional and timely work. The small amount of interior plumbing where the line came into the house was very clean. Super neat solder joints. Andy had good suggestions about replacement of the remainder of my old galvanized piping. Communication and bid process were very clear. During the City inspection, I spoke with the Inspector, who said that Akers always does quality work.

We had a new main water line to our house installed to replace the original galvanized steel. We…read morefound Akers through a reference from another plumber giving us a quote for interior work as part of the same overall project, who told us that while he would be willing to do the exterior/trenchless work himself, we should really contact this company (Akers) he knew, that it was their bread and butter. We did decide to use Akers, and overall we were very pleased with that choice. The factors that most won me over from their estimate was the clear level of expertise and familiarity that Ryan showed, along with the confidence from knowing that someone who was going to be doing the work was the one evaluating the situation. As an example, the path from the meter to our house crosses under the driveway as well as intersecting with our neighbor's side-sewer in an easement. Plenty of other plumbing companies expressed they'd have no trouble dealing with the situation in a trenchless run, but only Akers went as far as pointing out the exact spots they'd dig their pits and how that pathing would make sure there was no chance of boring through the side-sewer. Similarly, Ryan was the only one to point out how the existing line was part of our electrical grounding, and discuss using copper for a suitable distance outside the house before the switchover to PEX in order to keep things functional and compliant. In terms of contracting/business-ops there some amount of looseness that a larger company might not display (minor delays in sending documents, nebulous arrival time on the day of the work) but nothing that was really problematic, and I'd certainly rather have the tiny hiccups of working with real humans versus some overly-polished private-equity machine. Traci was gracious and clear when responding to my inquests, even over the weekend when she was self-admittedly out of town, which is above and beyond in my book. In terms of price I think they were perfectly fair, they weren't the lowest quote we had, but landed slightly below most of the other numbers we got, not anything where I felt like I was getting an enormous steal, but I had no qualms about the number they asked. The actual project work itself went great, they had the entire replacement done on one day in about 5 or 6 hours with minimal disruption, and even took the time to keep the top sod layer for each pit relatively intact in order to replace, so that by the time they left, you could barely tell where they had dug. The minimal interior work that was part of the project (new hole through the foundation concrete, new main shutoff valve and hookup to the rest of the interior plumbing) was similarly spotless. If we ever need similar outdoor plumbing work in the future, Akers is going to be an easy first call for an estimate.

Our project was a somewhat complicated one - our backyard has a decent slope and we needed terraces…read morethat would be structurally sound given that our soil is extremely sandy. We needed a patio level, a small garden level, a turf/grass level, and then one last small garden level due to the slope. To maximize space, we wanted the majority of these walls to be near vertical block walls. The work is practically flawless. My father-in-law has a background in construction and even he was awe-inspired by the finished product. I cannot fathom anyone impugning the quality of Tim's work. To top it off, our neighbor's rockery was going to be disturbed by our work, and Tim (with permission from the neighbor) was actually able to help keep some soil erosion from their property at bay as a bonus and make their corner look much nicer. I will say that there was one issue we ran into - due to the odd way in which our side sewer was laid (it's an old house and replacing the entire side sewer would've been prohibitively expensive), we were forced to make non-trivial changes to our initial plan that resulted in some wasted work that Tim had to undo. This caused the project to go over budget and over time. Ultimately, we were able to work out a change order that both of us could agree was fair. The fact that he went long on time didn't particularly bother me - he's essentially a one man crew (with some help from laborers) and does not cut corners. While that may seem odd, the fact of the matter is that he is extraordinarily experienced and I've hired contractors in the past with larger crews that got the work done quickly but with important flaws. If I had to choose between a contractor who finishes exactly on schedule or one who takes longer but is meticulously detailed, it's no competition I want the second one (which is what Tim is).

Great experience working with Tim at Eagle Rock Landscaping…read more He is friendly, professional, communicative and very experienced! Tim walked us through the various options for having a retaining wall given we wanted to preserve a large (30'+ tall tree). He explained all the possibilities with pros & cons as well as conveyed the city's building codes too. He also shared his recommendation for stone selection too. The quote Tim sent us was very reasonable. Tim arranged for the city mark the utility lines and came out a week later to do the work. He finished the job in a day just like he said and the wall was AMAZING. It was more impressive than what we originally thought; he added larger flat rocks to create a "bench" and natural rock path to make it easy to access the slope. Great for sitting and planting flowers and ground cover. Definitely recommend Eagle Rock and would use them again for future projects!
