I have been a customer of Genesee for16 years. Although there have been staff changes over the years, the company continues to provide outstanding service. Shavonna, a manager, is friendly, professional and helpful. If I have any issues, her response is to fix the problem(s) without any delay. The technicians are competent and trustworthy and will explain the issues and the repairs needed, so that we, the customers, know for what we are paying. These are just a few examples of how the staff perform on our behalf. There aren't many businesses left like Genesee, so I hope they hang in there. read more

We moved to a new house with a boiler that had been serviced by Genesee for 30 years, so we decided to contact them on the upkeep. Damian came out and all was well, but when we decided to start up the boiler again a week later, it wouldn't start. I've been using Genesee Energy off and on over several years, and consistently for the past two years. Lately I've found them to provide consistently reliable and outstanding service for my gas furnace. Their techs have been very knowledgeable, professional, and pleasant to work with. Recently I've had a couple of issues that required same day service and they've been super responsive and helpful. Yesterday was Day 3 of an atmospheric river and somehow it triggered my seismic shutoff, causing all my gas to be turned off. I reset the shutoff but the furnace did not reset. Instead it was blowing cold air into my home on this unusually cold spring day. I left a message a few hours before they officially opened and 30 minutes later Dan called back to let me know that their tech would be by in the morning. A few hours later Jack arrived and quickly fixed the problem. They've really came through for me when I needed them. As a result they've earned my loyalty. It's a relief to know that I can depend on them for exceptional service and workmanship. read more

Had a problem with our heater and scheduled a technician to come out at look at it. Appointment said the tech would arrive anytime between 12-4 which is fine. However, they did not get there until 6. What a waste of our time waiting around. read more

Genesee Energy is hands down customer service focused! They take it to the next level. I've had nothing but pleasant experiences with them. They did a tune-up on my furnace this fall and it is running extremely efficiently! It is saving me money big time by running so smoothly. I am on an automatic delivery schedule for my oil tank, and they are spot-on every time! I am also on a billing and payment plan with them, and it's always been accurate, never an issue. Their whole Team has been awesome to work with, even with all the snow craziness going on right now! If you have heating oil needs, furnace needs, or anything else in their service offerings, do yourself a favor and call Genesee. I have a budget plan with Genesee Energy used to have Cascade heating oil. I owed $400.00 at $120 could have paid it off. Every time I pay off my bill they bring me more heating oil. Had a delivery in January then they Genesee Energy deliver another amount that was $742+400= 1142. Made a payment under my or their budget plan of $120.00. Received a invoice from Genesee Energy for: 1000 total, 30 days $742.71 60 days $216.90 90 days: $40.39. Six payments is $720.00 7 payments $840.00. I get my social security late this month most will go for that heating oil bill. Their budget plan is a travesty. They have lost my trust. I am sincerely Re-evaluating and understanding why all of my friends left this company went to another energy heating oil company with a good star rating. Cascade oil gets a 1 star combined with 2+1=3 disheartened!! read more

I was quoted a service time in the morning for a checkup and a tune up. The 4 hour expected time has come and gone. They showed up AFTER the allotted time and spent another 1.5hrs on my furnace. If you expect to do anything else, forget about it. So i was charged 300$ for a tune up. After about a week my furnace wasn't working for some reason. I called them out to take a look, took off work to get this done, and got quoted a 400$ part. So after 3 weeks, another day off for service, a 400$ part, a 300$ tune up with another 100$ visit to push a reset button on the 400$ part, my furnace still doesnt work. Lets just say... Im gonna need someone else to take a look at my furnace from now on. read more

I was pricing oil companies in the area and told the sales rep. what my current system of delivery is (I measure my own oil call when needed and even though it is a 500 gallon tank we only fill it to the 300 mark because the cost would be too much for us) I also referred to a sales promo I saw in the mail. He was so rude at telling me how wrong my way of delivery is and they refuse to do will call or partial fills. Which ok, i understand every business does it different, but he went after how I have been using my oil personally and even attacked my statement on the sales promo. After I sent him a picture of the flyer, so he's aware, and thanked him for answering my questions. He continued to attacking my choice for partial fills because they offer payment plans. Genesee needs to work on their customer service team, I would never consider using them. Simply put the answer should have been: hi ma'am I'm sorry but we don't do partial fills, will call or sale promos. Here are our prices, let me know if you're interested. Not: no we don't do that, here's why youre wrong for doing that, here's why our competition operates poorly, we don't think our customers are capable of will call it will lead to an emergency, and why would you be opposed to having debt with a payment plan? You can't bully someone into switching to a different and more costly oil service. I'm going to stick with my original provider read more

I've worked in the HVAC industry for 10 years recruiting technicians, and know how difficult it is to find a well trained and highly skilled technician, expecially for oil furnaces. My past experiences with other HVAC companies has been less then stellar. Then along comes Genessee and John B. I was blown away by the service I received when calling the company, and the exceptional service John B. provided. He educated and informed us about our unit so we had a better understanding of how things work. His communication was exceptional and the service he provided I'd rate as 10+! He and several others have been with the company for over 10 years which is a strong sign the company is doing a great job taking care of their employees. We live in Kitsap county . they bought out Cooper Fuel in Bremerton. Because of the problems with the economy the prices have gone up., When i purchased fuel the driver left a bill at our door. Then by mail, my bill was changed by $800.00. I called another dealer and their cost per gallon was .35 cents per gallon. This amounts to a lot of money when you fill your tank. I suggest that you call other dealers before they rip you off read more

Perhaps Genesee views it as "my good fortune" that my husband (90 yrs. young) and I didn't have to write one sooner, rather than later! I wanted to update my review now that a month has passed. The next morning after that review was posted, the owner Steve Clark emailed me directly and was proactive in sending someone out to confirm that the oil pumped into the tank at the end of December had actually gone to our above ground tank. It turns out, it was put in the compromised tank that was below ground and about to be replaced. This was frustrating, as we had asked several times about whether or not that would account for that $700 bill, and were told by the office that was not the case. Steve was sincere in making things right, immediately removing that oil and reversing the charge. He offered apologies and an additional credit off of our bill. He had a manager follow up with us to let us know process improvements they are making to ensure that doesn't happen again, with us and with other customers. Because of this, we are no longer considering switching our oil heat provider and I'm updating my review to reflect 3 stars. However, as I said to Steve, I'm disappointed this happened in the first place and I don't believe that this mistake would have been discovered had I not written that Yelp review (although I guess it would have come to light later in the month when the oil tank was replaced). We have otherwise had a good experience with their service on the furnace. read more

We get our oil from Genesee Heating because the woman who sold us the house got hers at Genesee Heating. And, because we are practically lemmings, we went with what was set up already. There is one female phone voice at Genesee who is very friendly, but often absent. The other female voice is Flo from Mel's Diner. I'm sure of it. Recently, we scheduled routine service to our furnace. The technician was on time (within the four hour window set up). But... he was less than poised. He wore his shoes in the house despite my mentioning the new carpet and having a SIGN that says "Please Remove Your Shoes". And he was not toddler friendly. At all. I'm not sure if he was knowledgeable because I couldn't hear what he was saying over my terrified toddler's screams. He cleaned the furnace, talked my ear off about service plans, blah blah blah, and then, he was gone. But wait. Why is it so cold in here? The air coming from the vents was freezing! I went to check the furnace. He had left the switch turned to "fan". It was SNOWING outside, for goodness sake! I'm giving 3 stars only because the guy in charge of billing was very nice when I called in a panic about how much oil heat costs. As soon as we can afford to decommission this tank, we will. I would love to give these no stars...or minus stars. They, everyone with whom I spoke, were rude and total jerks. In the coldest time of the winter, I ordered oil from them. (They bought Cascade Oil and immediately fired everyone who had been working there...many for their whole careers. The guy came out and measured my tank. He said he would not supply oil until they were able to suck out the water in the tank. He said there were 2 inches of water. I have an oil measuring stick. I measured 2 inches of OIL in it. It took them 5 days to come out and remove the "water". They charged a lot and I was WITHOUT HEAT FOR FIVE COLD DAYS! After they left, I went out and measured again. Still 2 inches of OIL! What did they remove? Nothing. I called and asked about this. They lied to me. At least, they were rude, again. Do not buy oil from these morons. They shouldn't be in business because their customer service is non-existent. Ballard Oil has better service AND PRICES!!! Genesee treated my neighbor the same rotten way. We have been buying oil from Cascade Oil for years...her family has been a Cascade customer for 3 generations. Her family is finished with Genesee, as well. They know you want heat, and will likely pay through the nose to have it. When your the big game in town, you get away with a lot. Waiting two month for a service call if you aren't on their service plan is bad enough. 18 hours after the service call the furnace stops working they are happy enough to send the same tech out and "discover" a relay that isn't working and that will be just a bit over $500. Picking up the same part right now for $99 bucks. Needless to say, it is the last time I get deal with their second class service and outrageous prices. Oh, the staff is very friendly. read more

I am sure that propane is a hard business to be in. The prices change, the risk of danger is high, and nobody likes spending money on fuel, it's just not fun. After I had some miscommunication with my tenant regarding their change from Amerigas to Genesee, I wrote a review to express my feelings. The owner of Genesee called me and made everything right. It takes integrity to call an unhappy customer in another state and fix it. I have changed my opinion and am grateful to Steve for his honesty. I had a confirmed appointment for someone from Genesee heat to come out to look at my broken furnace, which was in a 4 hour window. My contractor called to tell me that no one came to the house look at the furnace and that the company said 'the service provider does not have to call to tell you that he will or will not make it' as well as 'there isn't a guarantee that they will come with in that time frame' Regardless of the service person coming out to the home, the lack of empathy and being unapologetic of the time lost, disgusts me. Please save yourself some time and effort, look for another company to use. read more

Ran out of oil this AM. :( Didn't think I was that close to empty, but guess we've been using the furnace more this winter... Called around to see who could get us oil delivered today and check on pricing. Genesee wasn't the cheapest quote (though not the most expensive), but the only one that gave me a straight "yes, we'll deliver today" answer. Some of the other guys said it would be next week, others said "Maybe today or tomorrow?" I showed up at home this evening to a full tank of oil. Win. Thanks Genesee for coming through for me today. I urge you to NOT use Genesee Energy and if you are a current customer, you should double check your bills -- ALL of your bills. I disputed a charge on my credit card for a service contract -- for a furnace that I no longer even have. Genesee has now sent me a bill for over $800, insisting that I also disputed the charges for oil delivered over 9 months ago. I checked with American Express, who confirmed the $800 charge was NOT disputed, however, Genesee is asking for immediate remittance. They refuse to contact AMX -- and actually told me to have AMX call them. LOL The owner told me that it is "not unusual for credit card companies to dispute all previous charges from one company", even though I only requested one of the charges be disputed. Seriously? I find that really hard to believe -- and even if that is the case, then their problem is with AMX - not me - so why would they bill me for an oil delivery that I paid in full back in December 2018. My advice -- go with a different company for your fuel.....it is just not worth the frustration dealing with this company. read more

Called their office as I hadn't used them before. Agreed on the price of the oil delivery. Something amiss with the driver, the "tells" were obvious to me. Gave me a bill that was $300 more than the agreed price. Call their office while he was standing there, gave her the gallons delivered. She figured the amount I should pay. Offered the phone to the driver for verification, he refused. Gave him a check for that amount. Check cleared. Two week later Genesee sent a snail mail demanded $300 over the agreed amount. Called the office to find out what was going on. "She would get back to me" Of course never did. Filed a report with the AG's office. The response from the AG's office, she didn't see a problem with the attempted extortion. read more

Called Genesee and set up an appointment for a bid for a new furnace. A guy showed up and looked it over and wrote a bid. When he left I looked it over and it had nothing to do with Genesee. He was an independent, one man outfit I did not know. I called Genesee and they said, " oh we do not install anymore so we passed the appointment on to this guy we know." Why did they not say anything about this when I made the appointment. Very unprofessional. read more

They are a great company to deal with, prices are very reasonable, I don't have to worry that I will run out as they plan well to ensure you don't run out. My situation was pretty identical to the previous post. A delivery had been ordered, and it was assumed 100 gals had been delivered on Tues, Weds, still no heat, my roommate frantically calls Laurelhurst/Genesee and is told to go down to the crawlspace and hit the reset button. She did so four times in a disgusting crawl space. The woman at Genesee assured her we had had our delivery. Had to call a service tech who measured the fuel and found they had skipped our delivery entirely, and it would cost me $100 for him to come out and tell us that they never delivered. Then I got the same song and dance about the emergency 10 gallons to get you up and running. At least the tech made sure a truck made a delivery later that day. None of this would have happened if they didn't skip the delivery to begin with. Then, the billing nightmare. This property recently became an estate, and although I've lived here and helped pay the bills 4 years, they would not allow me to switch the account over to my name, even though I am the one paying the bills ($964 to date for 4 months' heat PLUS $100 to tell us they skipped the delivery!!!) So I have no invoice in my name and no way to apply for heating assistance or get reimbursement from the estate. To top it off the fellow at the office was rude and condescending. I have a house for sale. I was out in the yard when a man walked up the driveway and said he was there to measure the oil in the tank. I hadn't called anyone to do that. He said he was from Genesee (no identification on his shirt to that effect) and he had been told to measure the oil. After a few minutes, I went back to see what he was doing. He had just finished measuring. As I came up, he put a Genesee sticker on the tank. I asked him to remove it, which he did with great reluctance. I realize the number of people with oil heat is dwindling, but to check the MLS listings for houses with oil heat and then go around trying to make buyers think Genesee is the preferred company with which to do business - Well, that kind of deception is over the line, so far as I'm concerned. Seems to me this company is on a downhill slide. read more

The thought of speaking to these people makes my gut turn. Even with a service policy there is no compassion, as they left me sitting in the cold with an appointment days out! No, it isn't easy to get to my house but this week alone, I've had an oil truck delievery by another company and a large service truck came up twice. They refused to come out and did not call me! Genesee was recommended by my landlord as a cheaper alternative to our current propane supplier. I'm left feeling unsatisfied by my interactions with this company. They mistakenly delivered propane to another address in my neighborhood and refused to believe me when I told them that I had not received the propane I was charged for. It took five calls over the course of a month to resolve this. What finally convinced them was a call from the person who was delivered the propane. I understand that mistakes happen. It's how companies deal with those mistakes that makes for a good customer experience. The people I spoke with at the company were reasonably polite, but I got the feeling they thought I was trying to put one over on them. I mentioned that I received no invoice for the delivery, they responded that it might have blown away or I might have missed it somewhere. I told them my tank gauge was still reading at 30%, they told me my gauge must be inaccurate. Every time I called I was told I would receive a call back to resolve my issue. I only actually received one call back and that was after I started calling every day. They did eventually refund the charge and offered to fill my tank at the cost quoted to me last month. Had my concerns been taken seriously and this option been offered to me on the first or second call I would have a different opinion of the company. I decided that I would rather take my business elsewhere, even if that ends up being more expensive. Additionally: While writing, I did receive a call from Ed, the gentleman who manages the propane side of the business. He was apologetic and said that only twice in 30 years has this happened. Perhaps that explains their lackluster response, but I don't believe it excuses it. I did voice to him the same feedback that I included in this review. He gave me his direct line and told me to contact him personally the next time I need propane. read more

My landlord referred them to me cuz he's been using them since he got the house. Their switchboard staff are nice and informative and their service techs are almost always on time, the same techs come off cocky as if their time is wasted by being there. While one fellow, William, was nice and took the time to teach me a thing or two about my system, the rest have not and wait till after they get paid to give me tips. This last call was just that...my very LAST! My heating went out during an ice storm. When I called, I was asked by the switchboard, if my tank was empty and had I measured it to which I responded with I wasn't sure, I had nothing to measure with. In the past, I was supposed to be given a complimentary dip stick but it never came. So when this fellow, Dan C., comes out, I tell him what happens, he checks the system for himself, it did what I said it was doing, then asks me if I had oil in my tank. I told him the same thing I told the switchboard. He takes his dip stick reading, tells me I'm out of oil and that's the problem. I asked if he's sure. The last time it was out, the fan still worked and it doesn't now. He said no, it just needed oil. Then he goes on to tell me he has to charge me a $100 fee for coming out. I asked if he was serious, obviously upset that I was gonna have to pay him and still be without heat. He tried to explain that he had 10 gallons of emergency oil but it'll be more expensive and last a day or two on top of his fee. So by not giving me the emergency oil he's saving me money that can be used on the oil delivery. So I'll only have to pay the service fee which covered his gas and effort for coming out to my house. I live 5 minutes from their offices and he wasn't there for no more than 10. And with below 30 degree weather out, he was gonna leave me with no heat. He goes on to tell me that once I get oil and if it still doesn't work, he can come back. But he'd have to charge me again. I was upset. I was told I'd be serviced in the morning and it was the end of the day when he came out. It was so late that I gave up on them coming that day. Granted, I knew they were busy cuz of the storm and was understanding of the situation. However, paying a $100 fee for less than 10 minutes of so-called "work" and still have no heat was difficult to understand. I told him that I didn't have anything to measure with and if I did, I'd would've just ordered the oil, but with the fan not working, I thought it needed to get looked at. He then proceeds to tell me that a measuring tape would work (could've said so beforehand or the switchboard could have) and without oil, there's nothing he can do to fix it. I was furious, but he had a long day, so I wasn't gonna let it out on him. At that point, I didn't care. I wanted him gone. I accepted his offer of an oil drop off which I promptly cancelled once he left and thanked him for his "work". I will not be using them again. Also, they refuse to invoice, I have to be home to pay cash or check for any service even an oil drop off. It's weird! What's weirder is they have my landlord's credit card on file, why can't I use mine and not miss work? UPDATE: I got oil from another company and called Genesee back to complain about my experience and explained to the guy on the phone how I felt blown off by the tech and was wondering if I'd really have to be charged again. The fellow on the phone said yes. That the tech followed procedure and repeated that without oil they can't properly assess and diagnose the problem. Irritated, I explained what my furnace was doing and he said that they'd probably have to come out and bleed my lines now that I got my tank filled with oil. I asked if I'd be charged for that, he said I that I would. I told him that I had to consult with my housemates. What I did instead, was type "how to bleed my oil furnace" on google and found a youtube video showing me how to bleed my lines. It worked!!! I got heat and saved myself $100 service charge. I am a renter in North Seattle, and just had a great experience with Genesee Fuel and Heating Company as they replaced the old (completely broken) furnace in our 1906 Craftsmen rental house. I was worried about the entire process because my landlord was dealing with personal issues at the time and I was hosting working colleagues from out of town (in a house without heat in October!), but everything went swimmingly. The fellow who came to do the appraisal and figure out what kind of a furnace we needed was very nice and efficient, and followed up promptly on the business side with my landlord. On installation day, the guy was there *right* on time, with a new furnace to be installed on a 40 degree morning when I hadn't had heat in several weeks. He was nice, polite, efficient, and funny, and he worked quickly to get a new digital thermostat installed and show me how it worked before I needed to leave for work, and I felt comfortable leaving them installing the furnace. He cautioned me there would be a slight smell upon arriving home and there was - but there was also heat! I believe that fellow's name was Chris - he was terrific. This is my first-ever Yelp review - just wanted to make sure to leave one here, since I so enjoyed doing business with them, and since they made a potential difficult major appliance replacement so painless. read more

We recently bought a home on propane heat. We did not have any information from the previous owners of how full our tank was, so we ended up running out of propane unexpectedly last Tuesday evening. We contacted Genesee last Wednesday, a week ago. We left two messages before getting a return call. By Friday we had left and received several messages without having a date arranged for our delivery...and still had no heat. I called on Friday and spoke with someone who was kind and apologetic about our difficulty getting propane delivery scheduled (the only reason this is two stars was her response to my concerns). She stated that she would try to have someone come on Monday and if they could not fit us in on Monday, we would have our delivery by Wednesday at the latest. We did finally get our propane delivery on Wednesday, but it seems like a week after our initial contacting them is quite the wait. The difficulty getting someone on the phone was also frustrating as was the subsequent confusion on Wednesday about if they actually filled our tank as there was not an invoice left on our door as we were told it would be. read more
