After being surprised by Josef's approximately $900 quote to replace the movement of the watch (a standard quartz movement that itself is available for sale online for ~$40) I took the watch to JR Dunn in Pompano--an authorized Tag dealer and repair shop, where Josef's is not--and was quoted less than $300 to have the entire job done, by Tag themselves, with a warranty. Shamelessly quoting 3x a certified dealer for the exact same job is outrageous.

And the daughter who handles the estimating and payment was very helpful in reassuring me that my clock was fine throughout all the time they had it (I had emailed them just to make sure it hadn't gotten lost or misplaced as I wasn't prepared for the length of time it took to get fixed) The shop also has some antique watches, timepieces and other interesting collectibles and even perfume, so if you are looking for a special gift for someone, you may want to pop in and take a look around. There's no pressure to buy just a warm welcome and friendly service. A couple of things to note- if you get to the shop and the door is locked during business hours, knock on the door or call the shop. They oftentimes are plagued by people in need in the area looking for a handout so to protect their business they may have to lock their door. Also know that you will need to leave a 50% deposit on any major work. I have many antique clocks that sometimes need some TLC to get running again. I'm happy to have found Alberto's clock shop as I trust him to keep them all running perfectly!

Now, once again, I have been promised that my wedding bands will be here by Tuesday. At this point, after being given incorrect information multiple times and receiving no calls or follow-up, I unfortunately have no reason to trust what I am being told. What makes this situation even more upsetting is that I am leaving Wednesday to get married in Italy. These are our WEDDING BANDS. This is not an ordinary purchase that can simply arrive whenever it arrives. They knew exactly what these rings were for and the importance of having them before our wedding. Mistakes can happen, but what is unacceptable is the complete lack of responsibility, communication, urgency, and honesty. It has been nearly eight weeks since we paid for our order in full, and instead of someone taking ownership of the situation, I have had to repeatedly go to the store myself looking for answers--only to be given another promise that isn't kept. For a jewelry store handling something as meaningful and time-sensitive as wedding bands, I find this incredibly disrespectful and unprofessional. What should have been such a special purchase for us has instead become an unnecessary source of stress just days before we leave for our wedding. I am beyond disappointed.

None of those options worked for me as I was only in town for 2 more days. Divers Direct recommended Arturo, and I gave him a call. I explained the situation and he just told me "come on by, I'll get it done today". Not only did he replace the watch battery, but he also serviced the transmitter and re-paired it with my dive watch. He pressure tested both as well. After looking for months for a pre-owned Patek Philippe online and calling multiple dealers across the country, I purchased a PATEK PHILIPPE CALATRAVA from Watch Expo. I live in Chicago, and as you can imagine I had reservations about spending thousands of dollars on an item that I could not see in person. I was going to board a flight to go and look at the Patek in person, but Nick and Paul at Watch Expo said they will send me the watch. Further, I was told if I was not happy I may return it. Prior to the purchase, I spoke with three very large dealers to check out Watch Expo; one in Miami, and two in Chicago. All three dealers know Paul Busby (owner) and said I was in very good hands. In addition, Watch Expo and Paul Busby are mentioned in several watch forums with very high marks. Continuing, Nick Fenin and Paul Busby are absolute professionals. They ensured my confidence in them and further made sure I was taken care of. I received everything properly via FedEx overnight and am extremely pleased. Upon opening the package, my wife said, that watch looks brand new. I responded, you're not kidding. I further took the Patek to the Authorized Patek Dealer in Chicago and they could not believe the condition and price I paid. Translation: the watches carried at Watch Expo are in fantastic condition and you are getting a piece at a value that the First Hand Market cannot compete with. I will leave you with this.... I am meticulous and can personally tell you that I received a fantastic piece at a great value. I wish you the best in buying from Watch Expo with no reservations. If Nick and Paul tell you something is going to happen, it does. They said the Extract from the Archives will be sent as soon as they come in. Sure enough, it was sent via Fed Ex overnight. I remember I stopped by once to have my Skagen serviced and the staff were brilliant. They readily let me know the cost and how long the battery replacement would take. To kill time, I shopped around and checked out their selection - which was quite vast and had a good price range for any interested customer. This specific day, I passed on getting a new watch, but I'll most likely come back to see if anything new catches my eye.
