After this wild workout everyone got a little paper bag full of tuck shops sweets, it was great! After the ice-skating my dad usually took us to the swimming pool, the river rapids were my favourite part and I could swim here for hours. I particularly remember the scary red dragon statue and the cave men who looked down on your when you were swimming round the pool, one of them was wielding a spear which I have to admit, was a little bit scary. They also have a huge play area with ball pools, slides, climbing walls - it just looks amazing. Unfortunately, my parents never let me go here and I feel that I've missed out. At the moment the play area pool is closed for major refurbishment, who knows what it will look like when it's finished? I think I might take a trip back soon for good old times sakes. A fantastic day out for all the family!

How was this the first time I went to the Gourock pool?!?!?…read more It's a salt water pool on the Clyde estuary with stunning views. The pool is heated to 84 degrees so even if the air is cold the pool is not. There is also a smaller "baby" pool for little children but we spent pretty much the entire time in the bigger pool. There are two diving boards (high and low) but note they are only open for stipulated times during the day. Some loungers dot around the pool side and there is a lower terrace with umbrella-ed tables where you could have a snack or lunch. There are large changing facilities with cubicles, lockers (£1 but you get it back) and roasty, toasty showers for when you get out of the nice warm pool! It was only £3.40 for myself and my 3 1/2 year old son so the value is crazy good. It's roughly an hour's drive from Glasgow and there is a large parking lot as well as street parking. We went on a warm day so the parking lot was quite crowded as was the pool but even still there was plenty of room to swim. I've not been but they also do several midnight swims over the summer where you can swim under the stars!

There are lanes for serious swimmers and plenty of room for leisure swimmers and splashers. The kids pool was closed when we write there today. There's also a gym. An adult swim is £3.80 at time of writing. Parking can be tricky, but you can park on the road further down the road.

A place where you can feel pampered and in a place with an atmosphere of solitude and tranquillity with the use of Serene Victorian Turkish Suite, Steam room and saunas and Victorian slipper baths and hot tubs (which are gender segregated see link for more details*) Its got a bar in which they host occasional small concerts and since its run by its members, anyone can propose something special for the space. It has awesome rings and trapeze over the pool that is as entertaining for adults as it is for kids. They have a slightly cooler pool that is filtered with charcoal filters and UV so that they don't need to use harsh chemicals, so an all round nicer experience than your regular pool and possibly better for those with sensitive skin. The gym up stairs (formally the Billiards/Snooker Hall) hold a good range of equipment and should fit your needs should you want to burn some calories or work on those glutes! Ill end in saying that a little more expensive it may be than your regular pool but it is SO worth it, so check out the memberships options, get a free pass or come in on doors open day, you wont regret it. Also there is a lovely naturist swimming session on a Sunday after 6 if you want to have a nice skinny dip in the pool to unwind and rejuvenate. enjoy.x http://www.arlingtonbaths.co.uk/facilities/swimming-turkish-and-gym-timetable

To say this place is old school doesn't really cover it. From the swimming trunks on pegs in the main reception to the shoe hall just through the double doors. This place is steeped in the tradition and the way things used to be done.....not sure if this is by design or if they simply cant be bothered to change things... With amenities such as a decent sized pool, which i might add has a trapeze and ring swings, a sauna, gym and snooker room, reading room and bar. The Arlington offers a full experience. The one thing that does set this place apart from other gyms has to be the Turkish room which has to be scene. Its a wonderfully hot room with a spectacular stained glass ceiling, a real treat. A great place if a little grubby and in need of a little decorative TLC.
