I was looking for a new financial advisor after the previous one, that I actually had a good 3-year run with, decided to put more effort into researching tools of the trade than helping his clients and their retirement goals. My mother and I met with Shanna and decided to give her a try (she was to manage my mom's retirement accounts). In the first few months she seemed to be doing ok, even though the lines of communication weren't the greatest with her. BUT, to be fair, her assistant, Emily, was always fantastic to deal with. Then she went dark, and after some not so nice emails from my mom, she told us if we want to schedule reviews with her that we need to go online and schedule through a link she provided. Now, that information would have been wonderful to know at the start rather than being treated like we were junk on the side of the road. Also, I had to do some pushing to get recommendations on whether or not some stock should be sold and what she had in mind for purchase. Not exactly the way this "financial advisor" thing is supposed to work. I just want folks who are not familiar with investing/markets/planning for retirement to perhaps think about going somewhere else lest you deal with 0% return over the course of a year.

We had a great conversation, and she seemed capable. However, the price was unclear. My business is small with minimal transactions. Nicole initially quoted $2 per transaction, but her minimum charge would be $1,000 even if I didn't have that amount of transactions. I agreed to this. I paid a $1,500 down payment on May 20th and asked Nicole not to send me surprise billing. She promised to send me a proposal, but it was delayed until I demanded that she stop working on my books as I saw no progress. I advised her that I would find another accountant to complete the job. By then, she claimed that 2024 (7 months) was complete and that I needed to pay for the work she did, even though I never signed a contract (it was never sent until after she knew she was being replaced). Nicole has billed me an additional $4,307.50 for 7 months of work that I have no documents to show that she ever did. I have since hired someone else to complete the job, but now I'm being threatened with legal action. I also read Brandi's review and wanted to give Nicole a chance, but I regret not taking the advice above.

There are plenty of solid tax professionals in Chandler - I know have learned. My experience with Responsive started well--good initial conversations and a strong first impression with Billy and the tax professional Irene. Unfortunately, that's where the positives ended. Follow-up was consistently poor. Communication only happened if I repeatedly chased them down, and even then it was excuse after excuse--office closures, travel, annual fishing trips, "I'll call you tomorrow"... "I'll call when we get back in the office"... which rarely happened. The breaking point: I paid them to set up my LLC, and they suggested that they be the Statutory Agent. (I agreed) A few months later, they quietly resigned as the agent through the Arizona Corporation Commission without any notice to me. No call. No email. No explanation--despite multiple attempts on my end to get answers. Even more confusing, they continued to handle my taxes afterward as if nothing happened. So weird. This review is long overdue. I'm still waiting on a refund for services that were effectively abandoned.
