It was made into a patio type area. When I brought my daughters to check the place out on 7/19/2023, there honestly wasn't much to look at except for a few patriotic pieces. All of the pieces on display are from local artists. Some are for sale while some are labeled NFS or "not for sale." These art shows typically entail entry fees of around $10 per artwork. Guidelines apply. The next entry deadline will be in August for their popular Fan Art Show. For details go to https://lccanm.org They do offer classes from time to time mainly for kids in art, music, and readers theater. I saw a few parents dropping the kids. They are closed Sunday & Monday. So glad we have this opportunity in our community!

It opened March 31, 2025 and runs through October 18, 2025. The other day I saw Kermit, TX, school buses visiting - thanks! Members have free admission at the Western Heritage Museum at the New Mexico Junior College. Please, someone, encourage the NMJC to put out a remembrance bulletin board of our beloved Dr. Steve McCleery ASAP. I am disheartened that nothing was displayed anywhere on-campus on 4.6.2025 when my daughters and I visited and again when I walked my brother's dogs on 4.8.2025. Perhaps they never fixed their digital signs.

Support your local performing arts theater!…read more That's what my crew and I did for their recent haunted house which is performed maybe only about 6 times per year around and on Halloween. This year's haunted house was titled "Doll House." While the Hobbs Community Playhouse is ADA compliant, I personally do not recommend this event for anyone who needs a wheelchair, crutches or has difficulty walking... there are many steps. Plus it's somewhat dark. There's fog and flashing lights... the spaces are a bit tight. All of the performers did great... The giant grim reaper fast-walking folks from the parking lot to the line. Lol. The dead sailor and a guy in a top hat at the door. A giant baby with her dead bird. And plenty o' other "dolls" that qualified as hideous, obnoxious, gory, and/or creepy jumped out at us or begged us to "play with them" during our tour... You can buy tickets online with a processing fee or cash is accepted at the door. This year they were $12 apiece. We were there when doors opened at 7:30PM on October 30, 2023. The line moved quickly probably since the arrival of the first cold front of the fall season created quite a chill in the air. There was an attendant helping drivers find spots in the free parking lot. My 9 and 10-year-olds are getting more into performance arts, so we'll be back again hopefully soon!

Ralph Tasker Arena was named after the greatest New Mexico boy's high school basketball coach of…read moreall time. I initiated this page because that man - while not particularly tall - was a giant in our community for half a century. So when Hobbsans refer to "Tasker," you know it's the main gym at the Hobbs High School. When I was in high school, Coach Tasker was still around - coaching and teaching government (I think. I never got him). To me, he was always bigger than life. He was so fun to watch because his entire team was always so polished and eager to please Coach... and they were HUSTLERS. In fact, Coach initiated the full court press the ENTIRE game. He never let up. The boys were always so noticeably tired after the game, but they all became good men. He died in 1999 when I was a junior. After all this time, tons of money have been poured into this arena while vast improvements have been made. There were always multiple gyms, but man are they so much nicer now than when I was in high school. And I am so happy now that my youngest daughter gets to play volleyball there! She started yesterday (2.10.2026). So grateful to live in a strong community with teachers and coaches who put in work Tasker style. The United Way of Lea County Chili Fest was once again an amazing and fun event, thanks to…read morePresident & CEO Becca Titus and the crew! The annual community service fundraising event was held September 26-27, 2025. This year it was moved from the Lea County Event Center due to its reconstruction to the downtown Hobbs/City Hall area. There were many great food vendors that we visited this year, namely Dough Doll, J & J's Lemonades of Roswell, and The Cheese food trailer. This year we supported a new chapter of AMBUCS called Greater New Mexico AMBUCS. This non-profit "inspires mobility & independence" in persons of all ages with mobility impairments. For example, they "AmTrykes, physical therapy scholarships, & residential ramps." We also decorated luminarias in honor of our loved ones who have either battled cancer - win or lose. The Light Up Lea County sold the luminarias for $5 each and we all walked around them later that night. I was both proud and gut-wrenched. Weird feeling. My daughter's guitar teacher filled in with a band that played with Justin Kemp on that Friday night. He is a phenomenal guitar player! Please support United Way as they assist all the other outstanding, wide-ranging non-profit organizations in our community.
