Hobbs Community Playhouse - Line for Dollhouse haunted house at about 7:15PM on 10/30/2023

Support your local performing arts theater!…read more That's what my crew and I did for their recent haunted house which is performed maybe only about 6 times per year around and on Halloween. This year's haunted house was titled "Doll House." While the Hobbs Community Playhouse is ADA compliant, I personally do not recommend this event for anyone who needs a wheelchair, crutches or has difficulty walking... there are many steps. Plus it's somewhat dark. There's fog and flashing lights... the spaces are a bit tight. All of the performers did great... The giant grim reaper fast-walking folks from the parking lot to the line. Lol. The dead sailor and a guy in a top hat at the door. A giant baby with her dead bird. And plenty o' other "dolls" that qualified as hideous, obnoxious, gory, and/or creepy jumped out at us or begged us to "play with them" during our tour... You can buy tickets online with a processing fee or cash is accepted at the door. This year they were $12 apiece. We were there when doors opened at 7:30PM on October 30, 2023. The line moved quickly probably since the arrival of the first cold front of the fall season created quite a chill in the air. There was an attendant helping drivers find spots in the free parking lot. My 9 and 10-year-olds are getting more into performance arts, so we'll be back again hopefully soon!

Eagle 9 is okay compared to my old movie theaters…read more I haven't been here in ages. Since I watched American Sniper. Before that, memorable movies I saw were Titanic, Jurassic Park and The Cowboy Way. Lol. It's definitely been renovated. Leather, mechanical-reclining lounge chairs with a tray and a cup holder. The only restrooms are way in the front near the snack bar. The floors are always sticky. A small Sprite was $5.25 plus tax. The candy selection was lame, therefore, I am more likely to smuggle in my own next time. Recently on June 18, 2024, I came here with my daughters and their aunt and grandmother. No one ever asked to see the tickets that I bought to see IF which was adorable by the way. But our movie was disrupted by staff members asking others to leave and/or move because they either didn't have tickets or had the wrong seats. Yesterday on June 6, 2024, I came by myself to watch Sound of Hope. Great movie by Angel Studios. When I was at the snack bar, a young girl asked to see my ticket so I showed her my phone. She wasn't particularly nice about it. She asked to see it again and then gave me a printout of a small ticket stub. They never even scan your tickets. It's the strangest ordeal. The worst part about this experience is that me and another lady went up to the front to tell them that our movie previews hadn't started when it was supposed to at 12:30PM. No apology or any explanation was made. I'm glad we said something because I don't think they were checking on our theater room at all. Dirty restrooms. Barely enough soap to wash my hands and no paper towels. It's OK for my hometown movie theater, but it certainly could be better. The staff is nothing like it was when my brother used to work here in the early 2000s. It's nothing like it used to be when Mr. Littlejohn was in charge. TIP + every Tuesday all movies are $5 per ticket.

I went and told them and they were fully aware of the issue already. They said they'd try to adjust it, but I think it was only to appease me because nothing changed. Must be nice being the only act in town. Save your money and don't bother with this theatre.

About a 1/2 mile northwest of the MVD lies the metal sculpture of Brian Norwood, a local artist. It's back off of the Lovington Highway. You can certainly see it from the highway, but there are a couple of ways to drive closer to it too... What stands out immediately and can be seen as your zipping along on Highway 18 is the silouhette of a Boeing B-17, which is also referred to as the "Flying Fortress." The heavy massive planes were "four-engined bomber" planes that helped provide remarkable and highly accurate capabilities for attacking our enemies. It also depicts pilots-in-training who flew these Boeing B-17s at the former nearby Hobbs Army Air Field which was a prevalent training base during the Second World War. To my knowledge, there is no plaque or highway sign informing of said historical piece. I hope that someday soon this would change. My oldest daughter and I parked on a caliche road as close to it as we could and walked up to it to take photos. If you choose to do this, just be careful of wildlife holes - prairie dogs and snakes live here as do mesquite bushes and all the desert weeds and prickly flora! Lol. Norwood's website states that the structure is "19 feet tall at the tail and stretches for 82 feet from end-to-end." The sculpture was funded by the City of Hobbs and dedicated "at the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month -- Veteran's Day 2008." As I always say, history - no matter our opinion - should always be remembered so the good may be repeated and the bad shall not! Please make a point of viewing this artwork as it is free and rich with history if you know how and where to look for it. TIP: The sun sets behind the "Fortress." New Mexico's sunsets are stunning! It's located on the Mills Elementary School campus, but maintained by the City of Hobbs. So it is reclaimed water. Don't drink it! To activate all the water features--including a huge overhead bucket that tips over, pouring cold water onto screaming children--just push down relatively hard on the large yellow button on the northern side. As much as they may want to, tell your kids not to run. My daughter's gooberish friend excitedly ran, slipped, and sliced her leg pretty good on the concrete. Restrooms are nearby. Picnic tables. A gazebo. A small playground. Plenty of street parking or along the fence in the alley. Bring: - towels - sunscreen - foldout chair - bottled water - your phone to do slo-motion water play videos of your crazy kids. Lol.

There are a number of water features that spray, splash, and soak you, so there is something for everyone. Our favorite was the bucket that fills up and then flips to soak those standing below. We took our late lunch, and ate in at one of the covered picnic tables and watched the kids get wet. Okay, I'll be honest I also joined in the fun. No regrets! I'm giving this four stars because it could use a cleaning of the drains, so the water can flow better and the bathrooms also needed some attention. Overall, though, I recommend. I'm from out of town, and I elsewhere in the country we have to pay to use a small splash pad like this one. Impressed!

I brought my daughters here for their first time on 8/27/2022. It was my first time visiting the City-maintained park in over ten years. While it has some new-to-me features, I think that in the coming years there could be some major improvements. There was ample parking. On a sidenote, when we were there, two large dogs were not on leashes playing fetch with their owners. My dog is no longer around, so I often walk my brother's pitbull and want to start walking my other brother's German Shepherd... good dog owners know where I'm going with this. Just be careful when going to any park with your dog in this town. The "let's all win, toss it in the bin" campaign certainly seems to help keep waste off the ground. Here, it's printed on large signs with trash cans spread throughout the park. Much appreciated! Now if we could just get all of the morons to stop throwing trash out their car windows...
