These folks didn't know me from anyone; no long standing patient relationship; no obligation to me at all. Heather's smile comes right through the phone at you. From the Front Desk ladies to the Dental Assistants and Hygenists on the team, this is the happiest dental office I've ever visited. Now I don't know about you, but I do NOT like those shots and I was petrified, especially given the pain I had been in for the past couple of days during the holiday. I am, in fact, terrified of needles, but I barely felt Dr. Whitson's "stick" and I was numb in no time. (whew!) He fixed my pain, fixed my tooth (really well) and had me out the door in about 35 minutes. Dr. Whitson seems pretty precise to, because there wasn't a lot of "post-fill drilling" like most dentists. He just did it right from the beginning! Not only was Dr. Whitson attentive, gentle and careful, he proved to be very conservative in his treatment plan. He didn't go for the easy "gouge" but instead went for the best treatment for me in the moment. For which I'm very grateful - and astonished, as most dentists don't take that "high" road. Unfortunately this happened the day before a huge snowstorm was coming and a weekend. I asked in a Facebook group where I should go and was suggested Emergency Dental of St. Louis. I drove up there and waited about 30 minutes and they got me in. Dr. Son was the dentist that I saw and he was very nice and seemed knowledgeable. I needed a root canal and a crown. The price was quite shocking at first (as are all dental procedures at any dental office), so I asked if he could just do the first part to get me out of pain. I ended up coming back and finishing the root canal with him about a week later. Things went smoothly and Dr. Son was again pleasant and competent. I felt safe under their care. When I came back for my permanent crown, things went well. The look and feel of the crown was good. I believe her name was Nicole, informed me that I had another credit which I thought was awesome, because so many times companies/offices don't tell you about credits and just leave you to find out later, so I appreciated the upfront honesty. Overall, I am pleased with the quality of care that I receive, and that they got me in quickly for all the separate days I needed to be seen. I would definitely recommend them to someone that has an emergency dental situation.

I couldn't even floss without it getting stuck. One day a piece of my tooth came out and I went to the office and Vincent asked me what I did to make that happen. COME ON! Then a few weeks later when my pain increased dramatically and I couldn't drink or eat on that side without sharp pain, I emailed Vincent and asked if Dr. K could work on the tooth instead and he suggested another dentist. I would not recommend this dental office based on my experience. On more than one occasion, they attempted to take X-rays even though they knew my insurance only covers them once every 12 months. I felt there was a strong focus on generating additional billable procedures rather than providing transparent patient care. Patients should be fully informed about costs and insurance coverage before unnecessary tests are performed. I was also concerned by the lack of communication regarding staffing changes. Dr. White apparently left the practice after a medical emergency, but patients were not proactively informed that a new dentist would be taking over their care. Overall, I found the business practices to be lacking in transparency, and the experience left me questioning whether recommended procedures were truly necessary. Two days AFTER his appointment, the office called and said that they were considered out-of-network, and that he now owed almost $300. Then the snippy person at the office told him it shouldn't be a big deal because he's always been paying out of pocket. WTAF????? For the record, other than dental work, the most he has paid out of pocket was about $80 when the office started doing xrays twice a year to pad their billing, and his former insurance only paid for xrays once a year. I have been a patient at Sunset Hills Dental as well; they have lost me as well. I have already found another dental practice and will not return to SHDG.
