My husband has been a patient of Sunset Hills Dental Group for OVER FORTY YEARS. Recently, Essence Healthcare switched their dental coverage to Liberty Dental...when my husband went in for his regular exam and cleaning, he asked specifically if Sunset Hills Dental took his new Dental coverage, and they said yes. Two days AFTER his appointment, the office called and said that they were considered out-of-network, and that he now owed almost $300. Then the snippy person at the office told him it shouldn't be a big deal because he's always been paying out of pocket. WTAF????? For the record, other than dental work, the most he has paid out of pocket was about $80 when the office started doing xrays twice a year to pad their billing, and his former insurance only paid for xrays once a year. I have been a patient at Sunset Hills Dental as well; they have lost me as well. I have already found another dental practice and will not return to SHDG. read more

I recently had my dental cleaning and have had bad experiences: First, The Hygienesis was not professional at all, She set up TV and music loud (I wondered if she was there for patient's care or entertainment), I had to request her to turn off TV and music. Secondly, they took X-ray that insurance does not cover without letting patients know. As we know that most of the dental insurance cover annual X-ray (so does my insurance). I spoke to the office billing person (Tricia) and manager (Ray), they were so rude and said " we only took the X-ray and collect payment, you need to pay the bill". Above was the worse experience that I have had with this dental office . I would not recommend it to any of my friends or person I know. read more

If I could give this dental office a 0 star rating I would!!! 20yrs I've been suffering through painful dentistry procedures and rude office staff, due to a debilitating fear of dentists since I was 6yrs old. In 20yrs I've only missed 4 appointments. Today when I called(because I need to get a crown put on a root canal and one of my teeth broke right before Christmas) they informed me that I've been DISMISSED from the practice because I missed an appointment last year! WTF?!? 20 YEARS!! The rude little girl on the phone, who has only been there 2 years, was so unbelievably dismissive and obviously didn't care whether I have any sort of mental condition. The visit started with an impression that left residue on my face which I was trying to clean off before being sent back out into the waiting room. The assistant just stood tby the door and offered no help After sitting in the waiting room for another half hour, Laura came out to get me, apologized for the long wait and wiped the excess impression materials from my face. She then proceeded to use her tool to show me how much my gum line could bleed, coached me on using my electric brush and told me I could expect to have bad breath if this continued. She then probed each tooth's gum line and when I complained it was hurting, she asked if I'd ever had this done before. Really!!! I'm 75 years old and have always had regular dental care, orthodontic work done as an adult, and usually complimented on how well I take care of my teeth. By this time, everyone has deserted the office for lunch and I'm done with my cleaning which thankfully got better after telling her I couldn't stand the pain level. I have been seeing Dr. Kaufmann for about 3 years. He is professional, knowledgeable as well as kind. Ann, the Hygienist, is also very thorough. They discovered an abscess tooth last year, and sent me to an Endodontist rather than do a root canal in the office. I guess their bookings don't allow for an extra procedure, because I've never been sent anywhere else for this problem. The only other thing that is odd, is the office is on the second floor. No elevator, but they have an electric chair lift. Anyone who is significantly handicapped may find this setup unmanageable. So, the staff and the care are very good, which are the main concerns! read more

I beli that I had a new hygienist. She did some things differently than the woman I usually see. I told her t believed I had 3 cavities and after cleaning, she disagreed with me. And Dr. Stephen looked at the X-rays and listened to the hygienist and said "no cavities" and sent me on my way. I am leaving town for 3 months, so I hope they are smarter than I am. This used to be a great place to go, but I will never be back! This is the second time the office staff totally screwed up the insurance forms, and this time I have to pay what would have been covered if they had just sent the forms the insurance company requested. This also happened to a friend I referred here.It's costing me over $600 because someone didn't do their job! Also, the permanent crown that was put on in the spring came off less than 3 months later. I have had temporary crowns pop off, but never a permanent one! I have been going to this Dental Office since I was a kid, and had to go back this morning for my annual cleaning. In all honesty I was dreading it - but Dr. Beck and his team made it one of the most comfortable check up's ever! They asked a lot of questions since I had not been in for awhile - especially ones I wouldn't think of, such as asking about sensitivity when eat a different variety of foods. His assistant was amazing! I have never had someone be so gentle, polite and courteous while digging around inside my mouth ;) I would recommend his office to anyone who might be looking for a new Dentist or perhaps just a good cleaning. They were also very flexible in helping me find an appointment time that worked for me - that is a biggie right there! After wrong 2018 pre authorization estimate I was hit almost with whole amount of the balance . I was furious even tho i stated I need estimate and pre authorization to see what's covered.And guess what it's was 50/50 !!!And after i establish Monthly payment plan it was ok for few months and my balance went up . Insurance did not cover(Like in pre authorization)it estimate (still have the paper ) I took almost full amount to pay and told them it might take longer to pay . After 2Years in March beginning of crisis of COVID 19 $they call me and wanted to full payout or higher installments.I already paid of $2863 and still outstanding balance of $1477.And they sell the account to collection after being 3months late with additional $369 without even notifying about placement on Collection.I was furloughed in March 14 and every bank acc. I have offered deferred payments .But no Sunset Hills Dentists ,they even told me when I mention I was lay off this balance was prior crisis. How dare u read more

I have extremely high dental anxiety and haven't been to a dentist in over five years. I heard about Dr. Elena Zerega from a friend. I was so impressed--she understood my fear and worked with me to make me comfortable as possible. She never surprised me and made sure I was okay at each step. The third visit, Dr. Zerega was on maternity leave, so I saw Dr. Maguire. He made me laugh so hard they had to pause the procedure! I have never, ever laughed at the dentist. The entire staff is upbeat and kind. They took my fear seriously. They gave me options, so I had control over my care. They worked within the limits of my insurance to minimize my costs. I have several more visits to go, but while I'm a little anxious, I'm not scared. I have confidence in them and recommend the practice wholeheartedly. read more

I recently switched to this provider because of changes in my insurance. My first visit was fine and the hygienist was professional. My second visit was a whole different story. The hygienist was very impressed with herself and was very comfortable calling me "Babe". So comfortable that she called me by that name three different times! I'm obviously not going to call her out on it, as she had a sharp dental instrument in my mouth. But I will suggest now that she step down from her pedestal and show some respect. read more

Everyone dreads going to the dentist, but my experience at Sunset Hills Dental Group with Dr. Beck was fantastic. I have lived all over the US due to my job and have had my share of awful, painful, and rude experiences. I recently moved back to St. Louis, and did not want to go back to my old dentist. I asked a friend for a recommendation, and she had nothing but fantastic things to say about Dr. Beck, so I gave him a try. I recently had two fillings done on my lower molars, which have been a problem for me throughout my life. I can't tell you the amount of fillings I've had back there! In the past I would be numb for hours, which would kind of leave me out of commission at work for the rest of the day. However, Dr. Beck uses an awesome technique where I was only numb for the length of the procedure, which is a huge plus. The procedure was PAINLESS and I was back at work quickly and was able to be productive. I cannot say enough about how great of an experience I had from the minute I stepped in the door. Dr. Beck's receptionist is incredibly friendly, helpful, and funny too! His hygienists have always been really nice and easy on my gums during cleanings. Now my wife and kids go to Dr. Beck and they are just as happy. If you have kids, you know how hard it can be to get them into a dentist's chair! However, Dr. Beck has been great with them. He has a calming presence that the kids pick up on, and is genuinely interested in talking about the sports they are playing at whatever time of the year. Dr. Beck is BY FAR the best dentist I have ever seen. I cannot recommend him and his staff highly enough. read more

I went here once and it was an awful expirence. The building looked very old with no updates to it. The waiting room had no order and was filled with children running around. It was my first time there and the dental hygienist HURT MY MOUTH. I told her she was hurting me and she continue to be rough and seemed like she was in a hurry. My gums were sore for weeks and I couldn't floss because she was so rough on my mouth. While I'm getting the cleaning I could see other people walking by the the hygienist would stop to talk to them. It was so rude and it's already uncomfortable laying upside down. The doctor beck seemed nice but very weird. The hygienist ruined the whole company for me and I would not recommend this dentist to anyone. Everyone was rude and seemed in a hurry. Oh and you can't make a left turn into this building. Ridiculous. read more
