He came and investigated - granted, the wiring in my house is a bit tangled, but Kevin started opening up all the outlets/light switches - one of the GFI outlets clearly had a black wire that was disconnected - and gave me the diagnosis that I had a "lost neutral." As he explained to me, a Lost Neutral is an enormous problem and apparently requires an electrician team to fix. So in other words, he wouldn't be able to fix the issue today, and I would have to call a huge team over. Then, as he was putting all the outlets back, he reconnected one of the GFI outlets and everything started working. I asked him, what did you do? He joked "Magic." I said "are you sure it isn't because you reconnected that disconnected black wire on the GFI outlet?" He said "No, I don't know, I think I fixed it when I was tweaking with one of the other outlets." I wasn't happy about this answer, because why would you scare me for 1.5 hours with a diagnosis of a "lost neutral" when my actual problem was clearly a GFI outlet disconnection? He charged me $200, which isn't unreasonable if the issue was actually resolved. But right after he left, the power went out on the circuit again. At the time, I was stressed, so I asked Kevin to come back, but he said he could only come back the next morning. So my friend came by and I told him the story. After hearing the story, my friend who's not even an electrician, but knows how to install light fixtures, suggested, "What if we just replaced the GFI outlet?" So we went to Lowes, bought a new outlet for $20, came back, replaced it, and voila - everything was working, and has been for the past 2 days since Kevin left. So a "lost neutral" diagnosis turned out to be a bit of an exaggeration, and while I appreciate Kevin's clearly helpful intention, and the fact that he didn't try to upsell me on some kind of big house project, I was slightly incredulous by the fact that the resolution turned out to be a simple GFI outlet replacement, rather than a grandiose "Lost Neutral" disaster. The fact that my unlicensed friend was able to suggest a fix that ended up proving Kevin's lost neutral theory incorrect, I'm not 100% happy with this experience. Still I'll give 4 stars for effort, honest intentions, and doing the diagnostic that eventually led us to a result, but definitely deducting a star for the cost and not finding the correct fix.

The two issues I had been dealing with for awhile are now fixed. I wish I had called him sooner. I love that the two times I've had Kevin come out for repair that he just fixes the issue without trying to turn it into a costly or unnecessary repair. I got quotes from several different companies and decided to use this one because the guy who came…read moreout seemed pretty cool and seemed to listen to my concerns. Originally they wanted to run the electrical conduit across the middle of the wall. I told them I needed the electrical conduit run at the baseboard so my car door doesn't hit it. The guy agreed to run it along the baseboard. We also talked about the gauge of wire needed and breaker size. They weren't the cheapest bid but I was ok with that. On the day of the install the electrician told me he would need to shut off the power to drill into the wall and connect the wire. I told him no problem. I left him alone to do the work. After some time I went outside to see how things were going. He had run the electrical conduit along the middle of the wall and not along the baseboard. I told him that the conduit was supposed to be lower and he replied with " Who said?" I told him that I discussed it with the guy who originally came out. He then talked about some coax cable that was in the way. I pulled it away from the wall and asked if that was enough room. He said yes. Then he wasn't sure how to secure the conduit along the baseboard because the coax cable cable ran along it. I pulled the cable off the wall so he could run his conduit along it. I was annoyed with this because it seemed like he was just making excuses. I also noticed the hole in the wall that he had made by accident. I didn't say anything about it. I wanted to see how he would handle it. After the job was done I checked out the work. It looked good. He was gonna help me program the charger but it was taking too long ( not his fault) so I paid him and he left. He never mentioned the hole in the wall he made. A 2 days later I noticed that my solar panels were not producing any energy. I found that the breaker and disconnect were off. He had shut them down to connect the wires safely but didn't turn them back on. If he didn't feel he could turn them back on properly he could have told me. I wasted a day and a half due to that. I do appreciate them giving me 10% off for paying cash. I guess it's all a wash.
