Three nights of quiet, a perfectly renovated room, and a real sense of being somewhere intentional rather than just somewhere to sleep. He picked well. I stayed in the Flower Power room and it's exactly what the name promises without tipping into kitsch. The owners clearly cared about the details: the vintage pieces are the real thing, the bathroom is genuinely beautiful, the bed is incredibly comfortable, and everything you actually need is there (Keurig, smart TV with Netflix, fast wifi). Even the mini fridge looks vintage, and I appreciated that it had a separate little freezer. It's a 1959 motel that's been brought back with restraint and taste, which is rare. A few things that made it worth every dollar (and the price is more than reasonable for what you get): Your reservation includes a Cloudland Canyon State Park pass, which is a lovely touch. The park is about 10 minutes away and I spent a slow afternoon doing the overlook walks and having a picnic at one of the rim spots. The outdoor courtyard back at the motel was its own little perk in the evening, with a fire going and a great spot to sit with a drink. Trenton is an easy 90 minutes from Huntsville and only about 25 minutes from Chattanooga, so it works as a true getaway without being a haul. For dinner, Lookout Mountain Pizza Company in Rising Fawn is a short drive up the mountain and well worth it. Quiet, clean, charming, and run by people who clearly love what they've built. We checked in in the middle of the night, so we couldn't see much. We knew we had to cross a new bridge and when we did we could make the outline of the cabin, which we already knew was on the smaller size. When we walked in and soaked the place up it seems so much larger inside. The space was so efficiently built that there was a living room, full kitchen and the sleeping area upstairs. By knows means is it Ginormous though. We slept great and the next morning we were treated to the view of horses, sheep, chicken and goats in the pasture back beyond the bridge and field we came in from. We explored the farm over the next couple days and the mountains too. But usually we were happy to come back, sit on the porch and talk or read a book or watch a movie at one point. My dog loved the area and the cabin. He is crate trained and seemed to think of the cabin as one big crate for his "pack". Although I like to mix it up when traveling, I think we may end up staying at the cabin again.

There are several great hikes close by. We did Signal Point to Edwards Point hike which has a swing bridge, waterfall view, and great valley views. Cottage has refrigerator and microwave so it is easy to bring snacks and breakfast. It's not far to restaurants. Looks like a great location for a wedding.

So, with that in mind, my review is contrasted against that intention. (As Kurt Russell's Wyatt Earp says, "you called down the thunder..."). But it's three stars, so it's not bad, there's definitely room for improvement. I recommend staying here, it is a comfortable good value, just not "nex-level." The good - The rooms are nice, we had a good seating area in the Cumberland Suite and the bathroom was spacious. Everything was clean, we had triple sheeted bedding, with comfortable beds. Being on the third floor, we thought hot water might take a while to reach our shower, but it arrived quickly. The front porch is an excellent place to enjoy reading, visiting, a glass of wine and relaxing. The library is also comfortable and complimentary soft drinks and water are provided in a refrigerator easily accessed near the kitchen. The mansion is truly a grand old dame with high ceilings and detailed ornate woodwork (some mismatching though), a nice large dining area and an even larger annex for their dinner cruises. The coffee is very good. The constructive criticism: With some attention to detail and tweaks, the experience could improve substantially. The check in process was strange. We had been contacted the morning of arrival to determine our arrival time, which was approximately 4PM and we were punctual. The door was locked and no one was in sight, so we called and we were soon let into the side door. The front door area off the big main porch would have set the first impression much higher. The overall area is safe but sketchy, especially later in the evening. We didn't interact with the same staff person at any time during in our stay. I found that to be unusual, since hospitality is personal. The first impression is an office area is in the main foyer, which takes away from the overall first impression of the manor. The staff did wear a uniform, but they were basic monogramed scrubs. The four course gourmet breakfast was far from our expectations or as advertised, but the service was prompt. For example, he first breakfast course both days was vanilla yogurt with one solitary blueberry in the middle. It was a lonely blueberry that begged for some company of granola or other berries or even a drizzle of honey or a sauce. It's not gourmet, it's a scoop of vanilla yogurt and one blueberry. The main courseielbasa medallions were fried almost to a crisp, but they were fancifully arranged in a semi-circle of a smiley face below two egg muffins and two slices of raw squash? We really did want breakfast to shine based on their marketing, but while good, it was ordinary. I could go on, but Yelp limits to 5000 words. I hoped to provide some constructive feedback as I think this is a worthy property and could improve a lot with some attention to detail. One example being the coffee from a local roaster was very good, so serve it as a highlight with real cream instead of artificial creamer. Sounds nit-picky, but a lot of small details would add up if someone had a passion or vision for the manor. FYI, there is no elevator, so third floor guests are hoofing it, which is great if you are in shape, we were fine with it, but be advised. They are very upfront about this during the reservation process. We enjoyed our stay and would recommend the Inn, its just that sometimes when you are close to something, you sometimes become blind as to how to make improvements. Small details.

I've always judged listings by price, thinking "you get what you pay for." After staying here, I'm happily eating my words! I only booked one night, but I immediately wished I'd stayed a week. Cyndi's directions were spot-on (and hilarious--she even warned me how to avoid accidentally pulling up to the "Grinch's house" next door ). This place is criminally underrated. It's the most charming little farmhouse tucked into peaceful countryside, complete with the sweetest farm animals roaming around. The resident Great Pyrenees (official goat bodyguard and clear boss of the property) stole my heart--he's the spitting image of my brother's dog back in California. Inside, the cabin is surprisingly spacious, cozy, and spotless. The beds are comfy, the shower is fantastic, and everything just feels like a warm hug. I've already added it to my favorites and can't wait to come back for a longer stay. If you're looking for a perfect country escape, book this gem--you'll thank yourself!
