Rock City is across the street from the Inn and it was also interesting to stroll through. The Inn itself is quaint and cozy. The main building has a few guest rooms but most are in cottages dotted around the property. Ours was sweet and the bed comfy. Our only issue was the TV cable didn't work and wasn't repaired during our trip. The jetted tub also didn't have functioning hot water and it would've taken too long to fill using the shower, so it went unused. Both of these items would've been much welcomed following a very long travel day from the west coast. Overall very nice.

I always get excited when I find old mansions like this. So when I got home I had to find out some additional history about the home and the site. The mansion property was bought by James Gordon after the removal of the Cherokee in 1836. Mr. James Gordon previously built the Gordon Mill, which served as the first general store in Walker County. With the success of the mill Mr. James Gordon wanted to build a permanent estate and construction began in 1840, but due to labor and financial problems it wasn't completed until 1847 The Gordon Lee Mansion was originally the Gordon residence built by Mr. James Gordon, who with his two brothers came from Gwinnett County, Georgia in 1836 to Crawfish Springs, now Chickamauga Georgia. Construction was started in 1840 and completed in 1847. The bricks used in construction were made on the residence grounds. The walls of the house range in thickness from sixteen inches at the base to twelve inches at the top. Later a piping system was installed to pipe water from Crawfish Spring up to the kitchen, then bath house, then the spring house, and on to the watering troughs for the animals. During the War Between the States, the main house was used by the Union Army for General Rosecrans Headquarters just before the Battle of Chickamauga. During the battle the house became a hospital and reports show that many soldiers died in the house, the floors were so blood-stained they were later covered with mats. Many soldiers scribbled a last message to loved ones on the walls, and the girls of the James Lee family made copies of them and tried to contact families of the soldiers after the battle. Mr. James Lee purchased the homestead from the heirs after Mrs. Gordon's death. He was married to Elizabeth Gordon and was the son of a Methodist minister, and was one of the principal organizers of the nearby Methodist Church later named in honor of his wife (Elizabeth Lee Memorial Methodist Church). Mr. Lee had a school in his front yard for his children and others in the community. The teacher was usually a male graduate of one of the well know institutions of learning of that day. In his will, Mr. Lee donated $250,000 and 15 acres to be made into a high school. Gordon Lee Memorial High School stands proudly today on the very land donated by Mr. Lee. After Mrs. James Lee's death, the house was purchased by one of her sons, Mr. Gordon Lee, who served the Seventh District of Georgia in the United States Congress for 20 years. He completely remodeled the house in the early 1900's changing the double front porch to the present large one with tall, white columns. In 1974, Dr. Frank Green acquired the property and extensively restored and remodeled the Mansion and grounds. Today, the Mansion stands on the hill overlooking the spring just as it did when it was first built over a century ago. The City has recently entered into an agreement to purchase the Mansion and grounds. The admission is just a few dollars and goes toward the historical society to help maintain the expansive property. There is the main mansion with two floors to explore, an outdoor kitchen in the back, a couple of smaller log cabins, a large garden, and a beautiful front yard with massive oak trees. Inside the mansion is about a dozen rooms to walk through. Most of the items in the house are not original, but they are period-specific reproductions or antiques that show off the house as it would have looked over a hundred years ago. It is very well maintained and presented, especially on sunny days when the light beams through the large windows. It only took about fifteen minutes to casually walk through the mansion, but if you come on a weekend and snag one of the interpreters you could be there for hours listening to stories about this place! It has been a Civil War hospital, headquarters, owned by a few families, and the current owner still lives on the property in a private log house! It is an interesting place I would highly recommend as one of those off the beaten path places to visit.

While planning a weekend road trip for a Saturday night concert at The Caverns in early April 2024, I initially spotted this property on one of the popular rental sites. Looking for more info as I noticed the cabins had different themes, I found Camp Swann's website, which offered much better pricing. And I usually prefer to book direct when that's an option. From their listing on one of those rental sites: "Camp Swann is a 50-acre renovated summer camp that has been turned into a fun and whimsical place with uniquely renovated cabins and communal spaces for making memories and exploring the outdoors". And that's an accurate description, maybe even understated. We were in the Swan Lake Cabin and I loved the bold mural-style art on every surface! The decor was so perfectly themed, including the furniture & accessories. Our cabin was quite spacious & well-stocked with almost everything we needed. My only *gripe* is that we would've liked a couple more pillows but I had no idea where on-site management was located since check-in was contactless (which I did appreciate). We definitely plan to return to Camp Swann! The proximity to The Caverns is under 30 minutes so it's a great choice if you're not into the real camping available there (I'm not). I also think this would be a great spot for a girls' weekend or family retreat. We appreciated parking close to the cabin, and also the contactless check-out. Overall, this was a delightful experience!

Miller Plaza is owned and managed by the River City Co and hosts everything from the very popular concert series, Rhythm at Noon (Friday, lunchtimes) and the annual 17 week Nightfall series, to art exhibits, wedding receptions....spelling bees . . . and it is also a great spot for a lunchtime outdoor excursion on a pretty day! I think it's something just aesthetically pleasing to me that makes me like this spot so much - maybe the red brick, squared off grassed spots and simple patio tables . . . it just makes me smile. Recently traveled to Chattanooga for a multi day kayaking event. We came early to check out the…read morearea and after the event before we drove to the ATL airport. We were greeted by Will who was super friendly, helpful and informative. He gave us suggested hiking routes based on our parameters (scenic but not too hard since we had to kayak 30 miles the next day.) The facility is clean, I saw no evidence of spiderwebs or other bugs. I selected one of the bunks. I chose a lower bunk. The bunk has privacy curtains, a pillow, bed linen a light blanket and a towel. There is a shelf and two hooks plus a light and a fan. Two outlets are free for use for your electronic devices. The under bed storage is extensive. I was able to get a carryon roller bag, a 95 liter Osprey bag and a Tom Bihn backpack bag in the under the bed storage unit. They provide the lock and key. The under-bed storage is impressive. I fit a carry-on roller bag, a 95-liter Osprey pack, and a Tom Bihn backpack easily. They provide a lock and key for the storage unit. The kitchen is well-equipped, though not all guests follow the posted rules about cleanliness. The fridge had a bit of an odor and some old, leftover food from previous guests. The lobby is small but clean. There's no TV, but you can hang out outside, play cornhole, or relax by the fire pit. Parking is tight in the area, but The Crash Pad provides a pass for their small lot, which was a huge help. The Crash Pad is conviently located near many great resteraunts and bars. Our favorites were Blue Orleans and Ernest Chinese. I appreciated their sustainable choice to not to use paper towels or hand dryers. They use cloth hand towels in the restroom and kitchen which reduces waste and paper use. My only complaint was the hot water situation. After a long day outdoors, you just want a hot shower. There's a sign advising guests to wait or run other faucets to encourage the hot water flow, but when you're tired and smelly, you're not excited about leaving the shower stall to try to make it work. At the end of our trip, we ended up showering at the event's rented shower trailer at Camp Jordan after kayaking. Insider tips: Bring noise cancelling headphones (people snore and make other noises). Bring a short cast to hold your clothes and toiletries. The doors are locked 24/7. People will ask you to open the door for them (when they do not have a key) opening the door is your call. I didn't feel comfortable doing so after the staff left at 9 pm, they have a washer and dryer for a fee, and you can get extra towels and blankets if you need them. I really enjoyed my time in Chattanooga and at The Crash Pad. If you are from out of town and are adventuring in the area The CrashPad is an awesome, convenient an economical choice! .

In addition, they mentioned me having a dog with me in the room; their website clearly states that they welcome pets with "open arms" (see screenshot). I think the Crash pad has a good environment, but the communication from the management is extremely poor. And I think it's just absurd to not cater to people who live in Chattanooga (as a local Chattanooga business)
