I love the Seaport. The neighborhood is quaint and fun and there is always something interesting going on from neighborhood parties to fitness classes to restaurant tastings. I strongly recommend getting on their events mailing list because there are so many things to do. Definitely the most fun in the summer but still fun in the winter. I just went and found an old fashioned bookstore with a coffee shop and settled in and read (and bought! Don't worry) a new book and it was such a nice change of pace. Love. read more

We walked by this area regularly during our trip as we headed down to IPIC, the laundry service, the Barbie cafe and just to see what was going on in the area. There are a lot of shops and a lot of outdoor seating for various restaurants, cafes, etc. There are a lot of local shops here and less mainstream chain stores. Or at least I THINK there is. The area is a bit pricey though. It also seemed like a popular walking area where people brought their dogs out for a walk. So great dog watching area! There looks to be some popular food options as outdoor dining seemed really popular. Most days the area had people but on the Friday that we came by it was a whole different experience. There was a DJ setup, outdoor dancing, outdoor events and buskers during this time. It was double or triple the amount of people we regularly saw and it was very lively! Seaport District is a mixture of entertainment, restaurants, and business. I decided to book my stay in this area (Soho), to be exact, because I wanted to take my time and get to know this area. So every evening when I returned to my hotel, I spent my time walking around discovering new and old things about the area. The start point to begin your walk is Fulton Street; this is where the cobblestone pavement start. In the middle of the street, there is a wooden structure to sit, relax and dine. Each side of the street is lined with restaurants, entertainment, bookstores, shops, bakeries, etc. Ok, keep going straight and cross the street over to the Pier. The views are incredible of The Brooklyn Bridge and the city. More restaurants, shopping, and places to sit and watch the boats! Mister Dips, great burger and fries. Big Gay Ice Cream, the Salty Pimp Ice cream is a must. Funny Face Bakery, tasty cookies with celebrity faces. McNally Book Store. read more

The WiFi barely worked & the free charging station was very slow. We stopped for a $25 round of drafts so we could charge our phones. We showed our sapphire cards for access to the Sapphire club. During Quarantine we found ourselves spending some time in this area, what a difference a Friday afternoon during quarantine vs a "normal" Friday main difference of course is the amount of people outside. with not a lot open during quarantine this area is more peaceful, nice to grab food & drinks & come back here to sit & enjoy the views. Regularly this area is very busy & pretty annoying at times since it's hard to find a place that isn't too crowded. overall during normal times there is plenty to do in this area, decent amount of food options, they tend to hold events & there is usually something going on outside, aside from all that u have the great city views to entertain you which are certainly some of the nicest views in the city, great area to spend some good old time just enjoying the open air. read more

The last time we came here they were doing some construction. It's a nice district to have a little walk. A lot to explore, from several restaurants, some shops, and cute murals. Then we crossed the street to go to the seaport by the water side. We saw a nice view of downtown Manhattan from here. Then we walked further in and found a very good section to relax and voila! There's a DJ playing great music! This was unexpected. The views were pretty nice from here. We got to see the Brooklyn bridge, part of midtown east, and part of Brooklyn Height promenade. Awesome place to enjoy the afternoon/evening. We talked about coming back here. Awesome! read more

I've never considered South Street Seaport a tourist trap. Is it though? South Street Seaport is just one of those places I HAVE to go to when I'm in Downtown and just feel like watching dirty ol' waves and boats pass by, the Brooklyn Bridge right on your left. No one will bother you, no one will call you (horrible reception there). Plenty of seats to sit on and just basically clear your head. There's also some free events in the summer like concerts and food events. However, the mall is horrible. It's clean but since some independent shops think that just because they are right on the East River, they can overprice some items. Also, a horrible food court. The only vendors that bring about are Nathan's and Subway; the food just isn't good at all. I suggest (if you're willing to) the seafood bars and restaurants above the Water/Pearl St. stretch because any kind of food here is costly. read more

The South Street Seaport has been my first NYC home in my heart. When I was overseas in the military and came back to NYC, I spent July 4th here when the Statue of Liberty had a facelift in 1986. Here is my list of all time favs about South Street Seaport: *My kid brother, God rest his soul got his first place in Brooklyn Heights, we used to come here as kids because of the view and dream big dreams. *I used to bring dates here because its romantical *BODIES - The Exhibition *On a date with my wife in the 90s, We went on a brunch/Jazz cruise and I saw Lonnie Liston Smith, my favorite jazz musician in the world *Carolines! *Great place for July 4th *The movie Black Rain had a motorcycle chase scene here under the bridge *Fulton St Fish market back in the day was here in its gangsta glory I don't hang out here much, My son likes a graffiti store in the mall so I'll swing by every once in a while. Then high end stores came in, the Mall went down hill, and Hurricane Sandy killed it off! I'm doing the review for nostalgia sake. I loved to get photos of the Brooklyn Bridge. I love coming here to people watch, eat tasty food from the Smorgashborg, and grab a drink with friends at Ambrose. Did you know the Happy Hour (HH) at lunch is a lobster roll and beer for 20 bucks. Now that is what I'm going to do on my day off next time. I just want to unwind in the middle of the day during the week and get a tasty treat. I was checking out their event calendar and surprised to see HCP had a few events with their authors, speakers, and live events happening that I need to attend this month. You should check it out. I love coming down here and walk and just keep walking. Its peaceful. I wandered over to South Street Seaport early one morning in search of the TKTS office. It reminded me of being at Pier 39 in San Francisco before the shops open, but much more high end. They have some fancy upscale restaurants and some expensive looking shops in this area. And it's nice and clean too! I didn't get to spend too much time in this area, but it time permitted, it would have been a nice stroll on a lazy sunny NYC afternoon for window shopping and what not. Sure, the Seaport District is a bona fide tourist trap, but it's a really beautiful and unique area in Lower Manhattan that deserves a visit at least once. Here it's all cobbled streets and planked wood boardwalks. If it's not too crowded, I would also suggest checking out the South Street Seaport Maritime Museum, where you can see paintings, ship models, scrimshaw, and admire the vintage ships outside. There's also Pier 17, where free concerts are scheduled for the public and 4Knots Musical Festival is held. Lastly, it's in close proximity to Fulton Stall Market (highly recommended!). read more

I moved to fidi 1.5 years ago, and have frequented seaport district ever since. This area is indeed getting better and better! The highlight of seaport is definitely the perfect view for east river and Brooklyn bridge. The view is undisturbed and beautiful. There are lots of young professionals drinking and hanging out here. The vibe is chill, energetic and cool. Seaport now has quite a few shopping, food and drink venues, and a lot more to come, such as by Chloe and a restaurant by Jean Georges. In all, it is a great hangout place for people living nearby. read more

This review marks my 400th review! I felt like finishing off my 400th review on this snowy night, while I watch the snow gather outside my window. Looking at the fallen snow covering all tire tracks and foot steps on the street is such a magnificent sight. I'm not sure why this is one of my favorite city spots, but it's liked enough by me that it has made the 400th spot. Maybe it's the cobblestone streets... Maybe it's a tourist trap and sometimes I like to pretend I'm one of them just for fun... Maybe it's the Summer events... Maybe it's the street performers... Maybe it's the Christmas Carolers... I mean, let's be real, you can enjoy a cold beverage while overlooking the water and enjoy the warm sun on your face at the same time while looking out at amazing views of the East River and the Brooklyn Bridge. Scenic love personified! Sauntering along the old cobblestone streets leading up to the waterfront there is an abundance of places to shop, museums, restaurants, and bars. Street performers are always entertaining the crowds. Live music is scheduled during the summer months. The mall has been modernized and features eclectic shopping options. If you are a sea-faring soul then walking around the docks and taking a look at the old vessels anchored here are a must. They are like floating museums rich with history, and whisper remembrances of sailors that used to call these ships home for many months and years while at sea. Kick back at one of the seaside restaurants, cafes, or bars in and around the mall. People watch. View the boats and water taxis cruising up and down the river. Or just close your eyes and listen to the sounds of the hustle and bustle all around. There is always so much going on here. This historic landmark and shopping mall is actually a terrific way to enjoy a sunny weather day with the smell of sea air surrounding you. The south street seaport is a great place to sit and relax as the sun goes down. This is one of my secret places to hide. My mom often goes to concerts here in the summer time and loves this place. That reminds me, I think i need to go out with her one of these nights... Back to the seaport...while the mall is cool, its kinda bare and touristy. However, support the merchants if you can, after 911 its harder. I like to sit in the lounge chairs and read or just veg out as I stare at brooklyn. I like to go in jeans and a hoodie and looked thugged out so no one speaks to me. However, the hoodie is for my head and to keep warm. There is a breeze that comes off that water. I went to the Seaport for a free concert.. and this place is just awesome to sit and chill out at with friends. So peaceful! ++ This review is more for the BODIES exhibition than the Seaport, although it is a pretty place. It was a little dark and nippy out so we didn't care to explore. The exhibition itself is crazy.. it's also awesome. It's crazy awesome. At $28 bucks a head, it's a biology lesson, but in 3-D! Up close and personal to these preserved bodies, you'll get to see all sorts of awesome things that beat a picture 10x over. Muscles, brains, veins, diseases.. and all that good stuff. I am at once reminded of London (Covent Garden) and San Francisco when I am at South Street Seaport. A festive mood pervades the setting. Expect to see a lot of out-of-towners. The shopping complex is quite garish, and the food court is unimpressive--with its collection of Subway, Nathan's, some Chinese/Japanese fast food and so on. The five-star rating is for three reasons: 1) there is nothing else like this in Manhattan, 2) you can't go wrong with having water, boats, food performing artists and stores all packed into a small concentrated neighborhood, and 3) it is easily accessible, for example along Fulton street. read more

SSS aka South Street Seaport brings back so many memories. I remember when I used to live in TriBeCa, I'd go to South Street Seaport with my sister and aunt almost every weekend. SSS is a great place for shopping (window-shopping), entertainment, eating, exercising or sight-seeing. SSS is most crowded in the weekends due to tourist attractions. However, that's another reason why I like going there because it's popular! I have yet to try some of the water activities in South Street Seaport one day! read more

Lovely place and lovely view of the Brooklyn Bridge and Brooklyn, but I like the Brooklyn Bridge Park better. It has a great view, but I like looking at the Manhattan skyline better. You also get a great view of the historical ships/boats. See the helicopters come and go as they fly by you. There are plenty of restaurants around this area, so just pick a place. Definitely a tourist trap, but a nice place to visit and take some nice scenery photos. I think this would be a great date night during the evening. read more

I'm normally an optimist, but in this case Seaport makes me optimistically pessimistic. South Street Seaport has been a mainstay of FiDi for as long as I've been born. Between the shops, the restaurants, and of course the Mall on Pier 17, the draw, at least for tourists are typically the boats docked here. Sure, I've been here since my childhood, but there isn't a single (native) New Yorker you can ask that can tell you Seaport is one of their destinations. That's sad given that there's so much potential. In the years GGP ran the mall into the ground, development had been stagnant, and truly a failure under their watch. Who can blame them? They were bankrupt. With Howard Hughes taking the reigns, new leadership will help drive redevelopment efforts to make Seaport actually cool to visit, not just for tourists, but residents. I'm actually more surprised there's no talk of a food hall here. It's proximity to Wall St is too close to ignore. That being said, you can still take in the great views of the city, New York harbor, and the Brooklyn Bridge from this vantage point. read more
