Decided to break with my tried and true Starbucks with a visit to another coffee place nearby. Wanted to do some writing, and didn't want to deal with crowds. Fortunately, Sunday afternoon, Google said they were less busy than usual, so I decided to head over. I ordered a Maple Macchiato, which was just OK. But the croissant-- oowee! I haven't had one that fresh since I got back from France, lo those many years ago. Not sure who their supplier is, but 2 thumbs up! I had planned on sitting inside at the table by the window, but when the AC kicked on, it was blowing right on me, and got downright chilly. The shadows were hitting the patio perfectly, so I grabbed an outdoor table. Unfortunately, the wind kicked up, making editing a bit of a challenge, but I definitely want to return. Pretty good place if you want to stop for a quick drink without going to Starbucks. They still have plenty of drinks options to choose from, with or without coffee and they have a decent variety of food items as well. The staff has always been kind and friendly to me everytime I've been. Also, make sure to join their rewards program for a free drink on your birthday! read more

A great place to sit down and grab a coffee. The staff are super friendly and the service is great. Lots of space so it doesn't seem packed even when it's busy. The caramel frappe is tasty, not overwhelmingly sweet. read more

waves hamptons was my favourite place, my potlicker and I went every day ...sometimes twice. the girls who work there are awesome...well, all except the nasty lady who was their on my LAST visit. who scowled we needed to pay for our pup cup and how the lovely girls shouldn't have been doing that great business plan... we loved the pup cups , we would ask for just a small squirt cuz chonkie spoiled doggo and they were always happy to oblige, often having it ready by the time we pulled up to the window, it was such a nice treat that I always made sure to tip top-tier. Finally got to go to waves and I mean the most I can think to say is hey it's a coffee shop! The vibe isn't much different from a Starbucks or second cup. It definitely has more of a chain restaurant sort of feel to it, which is fine - it just falls fairly basic in comparison to other coffee shops around Edmonton. But I certainly can't complain. They have a good study space with free wifi, lots of outlets, tables etc. The price is fair and the coffee is good! I also tried their oatmeal cookie which was pleasantly un-sweet. It was also soft which I appreciate in a cookie. Refills are half the price which is also great, and it tends not to be super loud so like I said it's a great place to study and get some work done. All in all it was pretty good, and I was happy with the place. If you're in the area I would recommend! read more

Would I recommend this? Heck yes!! There's one right with in walking distance of my house. I always come in. I usually order a pot of tea. Which is nice because it's only $2 and I can chose any tea I want (and smell them) and I get the whole pot brought to me. The latte's are really good and they do nice latte art on it. I used to drink Frappuccino's and I loved how they asked if you wanted icecream or yogurt as a base, since most places don't ask you that. They also were very tasty. I love the environment as well. It's so modern and big. It's never too busy like Starbucks and the seating is comfy. And they have the cleanest bathroom. I love this place. read more

Little by little you begin to get the shakes and experience cold sweats when you're in the throes of sugar withdrawal. Eventually the headaches and irritability set in and it's all downhill from there. This was approximately the stage I was in this afternoon when I suddenly realized I hadn't had anything sugary in my system since last night. My heart hadn't been pumping fructose into my system for about 12 hours. Very poor planning on my part. (I'm just a sugar enthusiast, by the way. I'm not diabetic--yet.) Many people get disgusted (or pretend to) when they see the stats on how much sugar is actually in Coca Cola. I get excited by it. So does my dentist. $$$$$ So my friend and future Yelp elitist, Jay, suggested we go to Waves Coffee. I confess I hadn't heard of the place but any business that peddles caffeine, sugar, and chocolate is worth hitting up. They're similar to Starbucks and Second Cup in that they feature gourmet hot and cold beverages and other sweet baked tweets to nibble on. I ordered the Caramel Frappé which is basically espresso and ice cream topped with whipped cream and caramel drizzle (whatever that is). I thought it would take too long for the server to scoop out the ice cream so I asked for it with yogurt instead. By this time I was in Stage 6 of glucose withdrawal and I had no time to wait. (I hate yogurt, it's a girly man's ice cream.) I even told her to not bother with the whipped cream. Time was a-wastin'. After the server brought the drinks to our table I immediately proceeded to suck up half the Frappé (I hate that word) through my straw. The best part of sugar withdrawal is that it makes you immune to brain freeze since you're already experiencing headaches anyway. I scooped some it up with my finger and placed it between my cheek and gum and let it soak into my mucous membrane. (It absorbs into your bloodstream faster that way.) As the absorption was taking place I reclined in Waves' comfortable chair and slowly breathed in the thick coffee aroma. Best mouthgasm ever. When I was done I still kept slurping the icy remains with my straw which I'm sure echoed throughout the place. I was totally being "that guy." So Tim Hortons, Starbucks and Second Cup now have some viable competition for what gets shovelled on to my palette. The staff are friendly, if somewhat aloof, here and the atmosphere is comfortable and quiet. It's nice. read more

Well, there has been some anticipation for Waves to wash up on the shores of our Prairie town. And now it has. This Vancouver coffee chain now has a Wave flowing, it's as far west as you can get in Etown, it's basically in Enoch! Coffee fans that live way out in the burbs are in for a treat. However, for my metro living friends, it is not worth the drive. Yes, it is chic... the architecture is very west coast, with lots of glass and steel. Very clean, very sterile. The staff was friendly and quick, they tried to answer my questions about the place. There is a drive thru for those on the go, early morning. I had an iced latte (which is not a good judge of how good the espresso/espresso machine is) as well as a chocolate chip zucchini muffin. The muffin is where this place lost me from 4 stars to 3. It was Cisco-esque; massed produced a day or two before with oils to keep it moist. Not at all "homemade" tasting or quality. I will definitely stop in whenever I am in need of some caffination and on that part of town (because there is no other place in kilometres!) because it's not bad, just not amazing or awesome. But I am disappointed that when the Garneau area Waves finally opens, it will not be a destination. read more

I came here on the recommendation of a coworker who said it was "out west". Coming from downtown, this is like the boonies! The wealthy, suburban boonies.... I spent the day here studying and this to me is the perfect setting for that. Comfy seating, lots of tables, good lighting, plug ins, quiet space, and a constant supply of caffeine! The interior is really nice, and the staff were very friendly. There is a drive thru, which must be great for those in the neighbourhood :) I had a London Fog and an Americano, and both were really good. There was a good selection of snacks and light lunch options, and quite the selection of "fancy" drinks. The prices are fair. I definitely would recommend this place if you live nearby or don't mind driving on the Whitemud or Henday for a nice study spot. However, I give it 4 stars because it's not special enough for me to make the drive to "just because" or to recommend to people who aren't in the area. So, I hope to be back, but not sure when I actually would be out that way again. But I'd definitely make a point to visit if there was one nearby! read more

Waves is always really clean and has super friendly staff. AC is really nice too. They also have a drive though that I have used a few times. It's a perfect height for a truck or SUV. Waves has free Wi-Fi, you just have to ask for the password. It's bright and clean and a perfect spot to bring friends, clients etc. Prices are comparable to other coffee shops but they always do latte art and bring your order to your table! Very nice touch! Somehow people knew Waves was coming. I had some debate about if it would be another Starbucks. I finally tried it out and was very happy. The prices are on par with second cup and Starbucks. The staff are friendly and efficient, and the coffee is excellent! They're an excellent alternative to the afore mentioned coffee conglomerates. I like it here. All of the other reviews have mentioned how far away it is but since I live in the area that's not an issue--in fact, I love having an alternative to Starbucks to go to when I want to sit down and have a drink. The space is lovely and modern inside, there's lots of parking and even a drive-thru if you're in a hurry. I have found that the drink prices are a bit on the expensive side, however, for what you get. They are delicious and quality is great but just be prepared to shell out at least $5.00 on anything. Their chai lattes are top notch though, really excellent. It might be a little bit out of the way for you, but those of us that live around here really like the convenience of having this coffee shop nearby. Love this place! I've been coming here for the last year and have never been disappointed. Nice decor, friendly staff and the patio is an added bonus for sunny days. Simply put they know what they are doing. I have looked for years to find someone in Edmonton who knows how to make a Flat White - finally. I live in the neighbourhood and had recently given up on both the Starbucks locations on 199st and gave Waves a chance. Within two visits the gentleman who runs the coffee machine and lady at the window knew my order, checked in with me at the drive through on quality and now both even know my voice. Every experience I have ever had at a Starbucks/Second Cup has been with some high school dropout or Arts degree student to busy contemplating their skinny jeans/sexuality than taking my order correctly. Wet, soggy muffins, mushy cookies. Went in half an hour before close and no hot food was available, as they had turned off the oven already. We stayed but were served in to-go cups instead of mugs, supposedly because they were half an hour from close... Come on guy, how hard is it to wash two mugs?
