I would't call myself an frequent church go'er, but I do enjoy finding a church to go to and learn…read morewhen I am actually in town. I (by the books) am Catholic, however, I find the Catholic Church anything but informational, spiritual, and open to diversity. My husband and I started going to non-denominational churches as we have made our way moving across the country. We have found that the style of these churches (rock band, inspiring/in-depth sermons) have really hit home to us. When we first moved to Agoura Hills we tried several of these churches, but the best (we've ever been to) is Gateway Church. I will never forget the first day (first 3 minutes) we were at Gateway. As we were entering the church, we were greeted with a VERY pleasant and Genuine smile from Joseph. He then introduced us to 5 or so more people, all who acted similarly. While I understand many people are turned off by this, I have never been so welcomed into a community so quickly, so un judged, so happily. Now, because of certain circumstances in my life, I am unfortunately not able to attend every week, sometimes several weeks of church. However, despite only having been a few times, they always recognize us and are able to recall our story and check in on our lives. Today, was the best day when it comes to the community. After church, we stood speaking with the pastor Brian for a few minutes, and was then approached by Kelly. She reached out to us asking (no judgment) if we would like to attend Bible Study. It was so wonderful, as I had during church been thinking I would like to get to know the people in the church even better, become a little more involved, and learn just a bit more, and there she was. The community in this church is mind-blowing. If you are looking to create a family out in the community, look no further. Please visit Gateway Church. The next best thing from the community are the sermons. The quality, time, and effort put into each weeks sermons are just incredibly educational and moving. Week after week, I leave church with a new message in my hands hoping to carry it on. I, also, really like at the very beginning of most sermons they have a video that discusses a section of the Bible through drawings (making it fun!). As I was looking on their website today, I noticed that they have their sermons posted online to listen to. So, if for whatever reason you couldn't attend church for that Sunday, but would like to still hear God's message, you can listen in for 30 minutes or so. Spectacular. Finally, the music. While it might be a little loud, (just a little), It is so uplifting. Everyone in the room is singing, slightly dancing, clapping their hands, and are speaking to The Lord. If any of what I have said interests you, I strongly encourage you to check this church out. I'm never going to want to leave Agoura Hills.

We had an unfortunate encounter with one of the vendors Mrs. Shannon Dunn hired to twist balloons. We were lined up to get a Dino balloon for my 4 y old boy. The music was still going, kids were playing, the Christmas spirit was everywhere, everyone was having fun. We were 3 minutes patiently waiting with few other people at Joes's Party animals line. There was no "Closed" sign from the event organizers, we didn't know and no one warned us that his services are not open any more. We were just waiting for our turn to get a balloon. Joe approached us - he was angry, seemed very frustrated and with no compassion in his voice told us that the last boy he will service is in front of us. He turned down my child in a very rude way. My son left hurt, disappointed and crying! Come to find out few days later (see Joe's response) that he was already working overtime without pay. The event coordinator Mrs. Shannon Dunn should of planned it better, close his station right at the time of his contract, or compensated him for the overtime work. My son didn't deserve to be hurt and treated like this because the two parties had a miscommunication and the event coordinator didn't plan enough time for Joe's services and overtime pay.

I will suggest reviewing the Antioch web page for details regarding services etc. What I missed over many decades was a church that not only supports Discipleship by offering biblical education on our duty as Christians, but provides all the opportunity to serve hear at home. Rather than Sunday School Bible stuby format Antioch supports smaller weekly group study in the homes of leaders and members. My small group enjoys our monthly Laundry Love support night at a local laundromat. We self fund and provide quarters for all who show at our monthly event. We believe the best way to serve is by Love and being the example. If asked we willingly answer questions, but avoid preaching. We show love through supporting a nonjudgmental atmosphere. In fact our night of service changes the typical laundromat experience into a neighborhood event with friends, much like a laundry party. Every church is unique and no church perfect... Yet! But I found genuine love and support in my hour of need and believe others will find the same from the membership. We do our best to create a very relaxed environment for enjoying worshiping. As an Usher, I hope to be the first to welcome you! If Antioch doesn't fit your needs, I pray you continue your search as there is no greater experience than having a Loving Church Family. In His Love, S. Coe
