We had an unfortunate encounter with one of the vendors Mrs. Shannon Dunn hired to twist balloons. We were lined up to get a Dino balloon for my 4 y old boy. The music was still going, kids were playing, the Christmas spirit was everywhere, everyone was having fun. We were 3 minutes patiently waiting with few other people at Joes's Party animals line. There was no "Closed" sign from the event organizers, we didn't know and no one warned us that his services are not open any more. We were just waiting for our turn to get a balloon. Joe approached us - he was angry, seemed very frustrated and with no compassion in his voice told us that the last boy he will service is in front of us. He turned down my child in a very rude way. My son left hurt, disappointed and crying! Come to find out few days later (see Joe's response) that he was already working overtime without pay. The event coordinator Mrs. Shannon Dunn should of planned it better, close his station right at the time of his contract, or compensated him for the overtime work. My son didn't deserve to be hurt and treated like this because the two parties had a miscommunication and the event coordinator didn't plan enough time for Joe's services and overtime pay.

You can hire an organist to play the wedding march. I never actually saw the organ (it's upstairs) but I definitely heard it as a precursor to the ceremony. The stained glass is lovely but hard to get a picture inside-- either you focus on the glass itself and lose the subjects in the foreground to darkness, or you get the subjects but lose the stained glass. However, if I were shooting on my homie's Sony a7r I might not have these troubles...so if you have a solid camera test my theory! A/C apparently exists but none of the guests nor I could tell. It's obviously not too bad since we're in naturally-breezy Malibu, but the bride in that dress, the groomsmen in 3-piece tuxes, I know they would've preferred A/C. All in all a beautiful chapel for about 100 guests, and I know the bride got some special pictures on the hill with the ocean in the distance.

Over the years, I've been to many churches across California, and this is one of my favorites (if not THE favorite). Let me count the ways: ================== * They are very welcoming. You can feel the love. * Responsible and applicable teaching. * Family: perfect for your little ones. If not seated with you in the main sanctuary, they have many classes and small groups for children. * Local and international focus. * The main sanctuary is totally pro. Huge and wide stage, and the utmost professional sound and lighting. * The seats are comfortable. * I've been maybe 10-12 times. I've seen the lead pastor about 4 times. The others, a senior or associate pastor, each different. Rare. They share the light, and this is good so that a church is not so dependent. Normally, if the main pastor leaves, the church attendance goes way down. I don't see that happening here. * Each service is different and special with performance or a unique speaker. * Tons of groups, tons of activities: a benefit for attending a large church. * Parking can be crazy busy, but it's well organized with helpful volunteers to have you navigate. Bottom-line, if you are looking for a church that you get great teaching along with a show (music and performance), a church you can join a group and get involved, I encourage you to check this wonderful church out.

From the minute I walked in, I felt welcome. I immediately wanted to get involved and it was easy to do so. The service is "living room style" where the Pastor gives a message but also somewhat interacts with everyone. It's personal... and I like that... If you are considering visiting, here are some things that I think are beneficial to know: Parking: across the street in the supermarket parking lot (currently under construction so you can park on the street for now) Dress: some people come casual and some come dressed up... whatever you prefer! The View: It is right on the beach so the view cannot be beat... I mean, who doesn't love looking out at the ocean and occasionally spotting a dolphin or two? The music: there is a full band and the music is great (contemporary worship I think) Kids: There is a kids service every Sunday for babies - 5th grade, and every other Sunday there is a middle school service that meets separately. The members of Waveside are genuine disciples of Jesus and want to share the good news and his love. Of all the churches I tried out in Malibu, this is the one that fit best for me. So if you are just in town for the weekend or you live in the area and are looking for a new church... I recommend Waveside!

They have a cute band of players and some excellent reverends that they host, many are traveling although they do also feature a more regular attending pastor who is a Angeleno. It's nice crowd- salt of the earth people and a far cry from the flashiness you can find at other LA churches. They sing for the first half hour & pause for a coffee clutch while the stragglers head in. They have fascinating photos in the back of old LA & Topanga Canyon. I love viewing those. Some may say this is a"born again" church. Perhaps but being raised within another denomination myself, I find my soul finds the nourishment it's looking for here all the same. They are very welcoming and open to anyone who attends a service. All are welcome. I'm very grateful for the country church

The worship band plays wonderful modern, as well as classic music-- and is chock full of talented Topangan musicians. The messages from the pastors are motivating, and the fellowship with other Topangans and people who actually come from miles around, to this special little place, is the highlight of my week. It ended up being around an hour or so, but I was able to make it (a bit late) to their 11:45am service. They serve donuts and coffee, which is a nice touch. It was a bit difficult to find people to connect with, but that is understandable, since I'm assuming volunteers had been up since 8am, and this was the last service for them (I've volunteered at churches before and I know how exhausting it can get at the end of a 3-back-to-back services morning).

Great acoustics and speakers talking about our everyday life, struggles, and how to overcome them with God and be in peace contributing so much to our society. They have a number of TV's around and speakers so wherever you get seated - you will hear and see everything perfectly.
