As a longtime Cookout fan who first discovered the chain during late night college runs in North Carolina, I always make a point to stop by whenever I'm near one of their northernmost locations in Fredericksburg, VA. Over the years, Cookout has come a long way from the plain white Styrofoam trays to the new branded paper boxes with vent holes, which do a great job of keeping fried foods crispy and fresh. I've dined inside this location about half a dozen times and have always had a great experience. The restaurant is consistently clean, the staff are friendly, and service is quick. My go to order is the Cookout Tray with a big double burger prepared Cookout Style, which means Carolina chili, slaw, cheese, and raw onions. I usually get fries and onion rings as my sides. Even though the tray used to be $3.99 back in my college days, the current price of $6.99 still feels like a great value considering the portion size and quality. On my most recent visit, I was extra hungry and decided to try a second mini tray for $5.99. I went with two corndogs as the main and added cheese bites and hush puppies as sides, plus a Snickers milkshake to top it off. Everything came out hot, fresh, and exactly how I remember it. The milkshake was thick and creamy, just the way it should be, and I was absolutely stuffed by the end. Cookout's big double burgers, whether you get them Cookout Style or Cheddar Style with grilled onions, cheese sauce, and bacon, are easily some of the best fast food burgers for the price. Between the generous portions, variety of options, and late night hours (many locations stay open until 3 a.m.), Cookout continues to deliver on both taste and value. Overall, this Fredericksburg location has never disappointed me and remains one of my favorite stops when I'm craving a classic Cookout meal. Five stars all around for great food, friendly service, and consistent quality.

I went inside to place my order and it wasn't busy so there no line. Inside was clean and orderly. I ordered a bbq tray with a corn dog and walking taco with jalapeños as my sides and a Cheerwine to drink. The menagerie of menu items is impressive and the fact that corn dogs and walking tacos are offered as sides is amazing on so many levels! (The walking taco is not listed on the online menu but they do have it!) I always order the bbq sandwich with bbq sauce on the side and in addition to the hot sauce and coleslaw it normally comes with. My meal today was nothing short of delicious as per usual and I left for my drive home happy and satisfied with my experience.

And I did like the fact that the food was cooked to order so it was very fresh. I did not visit the restroom so I can't speak to the status of the cleanliness. The soda fountain could have been a little cleaner. Everything was very sticky, and the tray was overflowing. The tables and around the tables were clean.. The hush puppies, biscuits, and the macaroni and cheese were the best I've ever had from a fast food restaurant. As for the chicken, it smelled amazing. Unfortunately, from my taste, I found it very salty and greasy. The chicken was well flavored, but it was just way too salty for me I also tried their banana pudding and unfortunately, once again, at least from my taste, it was lacking the right flavors. I did try their honey butter chicken biscuit sandwich I found that to be delicious So for that alone, it's totally worth a trip. I did forget to take a picture of banana pudding and the honey butter biscuit sandwich

I'm guessing people don't order fries often ‍. Surprising. Anyways, 16 minute wait isn't a great sign for my first visit when the store wasn't busy. They have some good daily specials and I would love to try the smashburger! The place is relaxing enough where sitting and eating could be relaxing.

Whoever was on the register (a young man) stood out. They treated us very well. Others made sure to address us on the way out and say goodbye. The restaurant was clean and the food was really good. My kids generally eat very healthy and normally hate chicken tenders. They won't eat frozen chicken tenders at all because they are usually overly breaded and just kinda gross. These are NOT that. I had a leftover tender from my daughter and it was sooo good. The kids loved them and my son was impressed. I honestly was so impressed with the service that we want to come back on Sunday for a mommy/son date we have with our friends. You have gained a lifelong customer!

There stood a cheerful young lady with a tablet beside the speaker box, hustling orders with the urgency of an air traffic controller at Reagan National. Now I will give them this -- they move people through faster than a tax refund disappears in Washington. I ordered three chicken finger baskets and repeated "unsweetened tea" enough times that it should have become part of the permanent record. Reconfirmed it at the second window too. We were in and out in four minutes flat, carrying enough Styrofoam and paper sacks to feed a Little League team. Six minutes later at home, the first sip of tea hit like liquified hummingbird feeder. That "unsweetened" tea had enough sugar in it to put the city of Fredericksburg on insulin monitoring. Somewhere in that kitchen a man clearly believes every Southerner measures tea sweetness by whether the spoon can stand upright in the cup. Then came the fries. Lord help us. These were pale, limp crinkle fries that looked less "fresh fried" and more "recently thawed beside a space heater." Not a hint of crispness. No golden-brown glory. Just soft potato strips lying in the tray like they had accepted defeat long before reaching the fryer. The chicken itself? Tiny little one-inch strips hiding under enough crunchy batter to qualify as exterior siding. Crispy, yes. Generous, no. More breading than bird. The Texas toast arrived soggy enough to make you wonder if it had been steamed instead of toasted. Calling that "Texas toast" is an insult to a state that once fought a war over standards. The lone survivor in this culinary rodeo was the sauce. That special sauce is carrying the entire franchise on its back like a weary mule climbing Pike's Peak. I finally asked my grandson if he had eaten there before. He admitted he had not. He'd simply been told it was great and figured nobody could really mess up chicken fingers and fries. Well. Humanity continues to innovate. Strike Raising Cane's from the regular rotation unless it is 2:00 in the morning, every other restaurant in Virginia is dark, and your soul is screaming for fried chicken through the fog of poor decisions.
