I initially stopped here to get gas (the provide BP at this location) and then I wanted to go inside to get a drink and a snack to wind down my night. After going inside it felt a little to small for my liking. I had to reroute myself several times just to look at items because of the people in here. I will give them this, it is nice and bright in the store and everything seemed organized and in place. I found my items and went to pay. The two employees working made it feel like anyone that was in the store was interrupting them and we should have just left without anything in our hands. It took a while be be rung up as the guy was having a full on conversation and slowly processing the transaction. What really bothered me was that even after you paid, it felt like they were waiting to accuse you of stealing something. My friends that came with me had already paid and were waiting there for me to finish. As I was going through my transaction they kept looking at my friends, who had already paid, like they wanted to accuse them so badly of stealing what they just paid for. They also have such necessities as some dairy products - eggs, milks, several types of cheeses, even sour cream. They make sandwiches also although I haven't tried that and to be honest, I'd be wary to try sandwiches in most delis, especially while I'm away somewhere, not close to home. The store is always clean, well stocked, and easy to get in and out of quickly. What really stood out to me was the owner's kindness. One time I stopped in for light cream, but they had sold out. Instead of just saying "sorry," he told me I could take some of the leftover light cream from the coffee station so I didn't have to go without. It was such a small gesture, but it showed a level of customer service you just don't see much anymore. It's clear he cares about the people who come through his store, and that kind of personal touch is rare these days. It's across the 6-way intersection from the Acme. If I have a grocery shopping list for dinner, I often go to Tienda first to get as much as I can for lower prices than the Acme, but then end up going to Acme to fill in the blanks. The staples that are in stock at Tienda will be cheaper than Acme about 90% of the time. Some weeks the produce quality wavers, but give it a week or two and they have fresh fruit and veg in stock. The Spanish-speaking staff are always friendly! If you live in the vicinity I highlight suggest checking it out, especially if you are making tacos or burritos because all those ingredients (tortilla, queso, meats, peppers) are in stock.
