As for Brika Cruises, I am very sorry to say that it was one of the worst experiences I ever had. Although there are cheap cabin options, it was not worth it at all. My boyfriend and I lived in Sweden for 9 months and wanted to see the Archipeligo. We booked this 22h cruise from Birka with a standard cabin and breakfast incl. We had seen the dinner options of the bistro on board and thought that would be nice to do. After ordering, the food was brought to us within 5 minutes, which indicated that it had been already cooked and standing for a bit! We noticed that straight away as the food was lukewarm/cold.. very dissapointing. Furthermore, our standard cabin was located directly next to the loading dock, where they were transferring goods until 2am and starting again from 6am in the morning. It created so much noise that we couldn't sleep. On top of that, our shower was stuck on an extremely hot temperature that we couldn't change! In the morning we had to wait for 20 minutes in line for breakfast, which was the smallest issue despite having pre-booked. Overall, I can never recommend anyone to travel with this company! Instead, please check the other options out there, as there are many. Hope this helps.

I was pleased to find that the ferry from Gamla Stan to Djurgarden was included in my little one…read moreday travelcard when I was in Stockholm off the Norwegian Star for the day. I had previously thought I'd have to do this convoluted bus/bus/tram connection to go around the top to get to the bridge to the island. Going across on a ferry is far easier than doing that. The ferry itself reminded me of the larger ones from Venice and of course the ones in New York, but with an interesting feature - you board and depart directly on the front of the vessel - and the ship is entirely symmetrical so it doesn't need to turn around ever. Our one issue was that we were unaware of the extra stop it sometimes makes between Gamla Stan and Djurgarden, and we got off there by mistake. We managed to grab a geocache and took some photos of Gamla Stan while we waited for the next ferry - if you do make that mistake, then just be sure to hit the call button at the ferry port, otherwise you might get skipped when the ferry goes direct. Otherwise, it was enjoyable, quick and comfortable enough for a ferry.

The main reason for taking Djurgårdsfärjan hoough, is the view you'll get of Stockholm. It's definitely a classic must-do in Stockholm, and no matter if you're going to Skansen, the amusement park Gröna Lund, the Wasa museum or any of the many other attractions on Djurgården, you can get there with Djurgårdsfärjan. Another advantage is that you can use your SL ticket on Djurgårdsfärjan - no matter if it's a montly card that most of us Stockholmers have, a tourist pass or a single zone A ticket you've just used for the subway or bus trip.

The stops were easy to find and convenient to where we wanted to go, the map was pretty decent for a tour-bus map, and the commentary (headphones provided) was informative and interesting. Red Sightseeing also offers a canal and river tour, which was nice, quiet, and got us to some rarely seen areas of the city with very interesting architecture and lovely green space. The staff was helpful, courteous, and understanding when we made a scheduling/location error. All in all, this was an excellent, pleasant, and very affordable way to see much of Stockholm, to understand how important the waterways are to the city, and to get where we wanted to go. Do note that there are a few different red-colored hop-on hop-off buses and boats, so make sure you get the correct line.

Where you get off from the bus, there's another ticket counter to purchase your ticket where you get on the boat, and we could have done all that, where we can also use the toilet (not in the same building), but it was around the corner, half a block from getting off the bus. We got off the boat after our tour, so we went back to where we got off from the bus, and the guy who sold us the ticket (saw us standing there!) and told us it's another half a block THAT WAY! So we missed the 1st Red bus! Yes, it had the Red Flag mark! Otherwise, we had fun with this boat tour!

We never would have even thought of this so we are very happy she found it. The boat is quite small and looks like nothing on the outside. But, once we boarded the small vessel we found a tiny dining room crowded with white tablecloth tables set for an elegant evening. It is tight in there, but so worth it. Large glass windows so everyone has a good view throughout even if you stay at your table. Everyone begins with drinks as we leave dock, with some people staying at their dining table and others venturing out on the small deck for a drink. After that the pre-ordered meal begins. Our meal had been ordered weeks before online, and what was there that night was not the same. It was still divided between a fish meal, a meat meal or a vegetarian meal. Oh well, although it was not what we expected, it was all wonderful. I am guessing the menu changes regularly. I had fish, beginning with a starter of pickled herring with new potatoes. My wife had a vegetarian starter, but it was covered with caviar, so much for all vegie. Still, she liked it, as did I. My second course was a fish dish in a light dill sauce covered with tiny shrimp. It was outstanding. I forget what desert was but I believe I liked it. In between the main and dessert, the boat was docked at the other end of the lake with a wonderful evening view of the Drottningholm palace, and many dinner guests grabbed another drink or glass of wine and just sat on the deck admiring the scenery. Except for the initial menu confusion, pretty much a perfect evening. Meal is paid in advance, but drinks are in addition at the time. Our boat was the M/S Prins Carl Philip.

Being from Minnesota, the area actually really really reminded us of our own national treasure, the Boundary Waters Canoe Wilderness Area. The landscape looks very similar and I'd guess (though I haven't looked at a map) that the two areas are similar latitude wise so that probably makes sense. The thing that was most surprising to us is that here at home, we have to drive six hours north almost into Canada to reach our favorite wilderness area, and here in Stockholm, you can be out on the water and enjoying nature in under half an hour from downtown (which is really urban and you can't even see the water). It's a really interesting mix of things and all in such a small geographic area. OK so if you choose this boat tour, as others have said, it's about 2.5 hours and basically takes you out and makes a loop. The boat is a nice boat ... large, with both indoor and outdoor seating,. So really you should be more than comfortable on your journey, though I can imagine that in the summertime and the height of tourist season, these boats are probably pretty packed. We were there in March, so the boat was less than half full, which was great. If you plan to sit upstairs outside to get the best possible view, bundle up. Even if it's warm out, it will be cold up there. The views are magnificent and the crew was super cool about letting you roam around the boat as you wished to take photos. The tour is also narrated, and our most impressive tour guide did the tour narration in English, German and Dutch after surveying the people on the boat to find out what languages they speak. I have no idea how many languages this gentleman speaks but he literally repeated everything in three different languages and fielded questions. Very impressive. The boat takes you by a lot of cool stuff, particularly the waterside amusemement park that sits on the banks of the water. But other than that, quite a value for the money and a really really wonderful way to see Stockholm!

Oh, wait a minute, I'm having an acid trip and flashing back to "The Love Boat" circa 1977. No, the Victoria was big but no Pacific Princess, and I didn't see the Landers sisters anywhere near the swimming pool. Just a lot of hirsute Estonians in the communal hot tub. This was the overnight cruise Jamie W. and I took from Talinn, the capital of Estonia (yes, Estonia) to Stockholm. We already had a similar experience on the Silja Line Serenade from Stockholm to Helsinki, so we knew the routine pretty well by this point in our Scandinavian maritime vacation. The cabin was A-class again and this time a bit roomier, a nice surprise since we got tired of falling into the toilet after taking a shower (photo: http://bit.ly/2iCQ6pE). There was no central promenade which took up a lot of space on several floors of the previous boat. No, the restaurants and shops were mostly on two of the decks, and you still had to make a reservation in advance to get dinner at a reasonable hour. My husband and I took the ship Victoria 1 ( Tallink Ferry Company) from Stockholm, Sweden to…read moreTallin, Estonia. It was a delightful surprise, indeed. Taking the trip was like a mini Carnival Cruise Vacation. The ship has a large open ' Sun Deck' on the top (9th level) with chairs and tables complete with entertainment ( singer with guitar) and drinks available for purchase. We spent a long time here enjoying the beautiful Archipelago Islands. Cabins are very similiar to Carnival Line. One difference is the size of the window. Unlike the small round window typically provided on Carnival, the Victoria has a huge window that is perfect to see all the islands and birds ( see photo). There is a lot to do on the ship! The shopping was unbelievable. They have a gigantic store area complete with shopping carts! There is even a casino and disco. I have included a photo of the children's play area. The buffet food selection is so big, we decided to pass and we ate at the grill restaurant ( very nice!). There are TV's in the cabin and all announcements were made in Swedish and English. We didn't hear a sound all night, and slept well. The ship is clean and the crew were all professional. Highly recommend this trip ( bargain for $100!) That lasts 15 hours ( start time was 1700 arrival 1000 next morning)
