I have been going to wax in the city for almost 2 years. Staff was always nice and my waxer was Amanda and I really liked her! But what bothered me was the manager. I always thought she was very nice. However my account there started changing me twice. Apparently I had two different accounts. Have no idea why that happened. But I was getting charge $60 every two weeks. I contact the manager and informed her of it and she said that she would take care of it and also made sure that I wouldn't get charged again. Before that I decided to stop going there. The next month I was charged again and I was unsure why that it took 3 weeks to get refunded. I emailed corporate because I was annoyed that this even happened. That same day I called and spoke with the manager. She told me that she just emailed me prior to me contacting corporate. I find it funny that when I complained to corporate she said that she was able to get it refunded. I never got an email stating that. I felt like I was lied to on that. And she was very nonchalant about it. Never apologized. Never could give me an answer on why this happened. Very disappointed. Because of all that I chose not to come back. read more

I was optimistic about my visit to Waxing the City during my lunch break. I stopped in to get my brows waxed, and the Yelp reviews on this place, while not plentiful, were all positive. I am very apprehensive about getting my brows waxed, but am trying to trust aestheticians again after having a brow botch several years ago. The staff was VERY friendly, and fit me into their schedule as a walk-in customer within 15 minutes (due to someone cancelling.) The waxing itself was quick and very gentle, which was how it should be. My brows, when finished, were mostly symmetrical. Mostly. The arch on my right brow is noticeably rounder than the one on my left, but I could wave that off as me noticing finer details about my own face. Unfortunately, that's about all I can say for the waxing. When I have my brows done and pay a quarter hundo for the service, I expect all hair NOT in the brow to be gone. The aesthetician, who I found out through conversation had only been waxing brows for 2 months, mentioned a lot of my hairs were too fine for the wax to grab. 'That's fine, you can get them with the tweezers, right?' I thought. She grabbed the tweezers, and finished up. When she was finished, she handed me the mirror. I mentioned there were still a lot of stray hairs, and she said "I can tweeze further, if you like." Uhh, yes, if I pay you for a service, I'd like you to complete the service? My brow shape is lackluster, and there are strays everywhere. Granted I DID get 50% off for being a new customer, and I really want to support this woman-owned business. Perhaps I'll stop here for body waxing only? I'm normally pretty lenient, but I could have done a better job tweezing them myself. :/ read more

She is super knowledgeable about brow shape, hair growth patterns - really anything related to brows honestly! She offered so many options as far as (and as detailed as) "we could tweeze this row of hairs here to lift the brow here and this will make them look more like this". This is AMAZING because she truly understands how tweezing one wrong hair can change the shape so much or create a hole. I've been getting Brazilians here for over a year. Ashley has been my go to girl! I look forward to catching up with her while she whisks through my appointment with ease. She's very fast and does well at keeping the process as painless as possible. My next best but just as good is Katarina, she is very personable and does a great job and will take her time to ensure there is no hair, even if that means using tweezers. Katarina was also the first to do my eye brow tint which I was super nervous about but was extremely happy about the results. I have had a couple of waxing experiences here with a different cerologist that was not pleasant, however I don't look at that as a reflection of waxing the city over all. read more

I go here to see Amanda; she's a fantastic waxing expert! I have been following her for 5 years, and my eyebrows have never looked so good. I get constant compliments, and it's gotten to the point where I would not let anyone else touch them! Amanda is also excellent at bikini waxes. Usually they're known for being painful, but somehow with her technique they're not painful at all. And she totally puts you at ease. My best friend and I had appointments booked today for Brazilians at European Wax Center but right as we were leaving the house to go, they called us and cancelled. I was super disappointed because today is my birthday and I just really wanted to spend the day out getting pampered so I called up Waxing The City and they had 2 spots open for us that afternoon! They leave the room for you to get undressed, they provide wipes to get you feeling extra clean, and their rooms are cute and comfortable. NO NO NO NO NO NO. I personally like Waxing the City (I like the company and would recommend), however it was my first experience with this location and Amanda (the lady who waxed me). Absolutely horrific. I came in for a full Brazilian, a wax I've gotten multiple times and have had great experiences with. This time it was so bad I'm seriously traumatized. She was extremely rough and careless, I haven't been in this much pain in a long time. I've gotten Brazilians before and yes there is pain involved but never anything unbearable. With Amanda, I didn't know if I could see it all the way through it was so painful and chaotic. I asked her to do smaller strips (personal preference) and even though she agreed she never did. Instead of tiny sections at a time like I prefer and asked her to do, she attempted to complete the entire wax in what seemed like 2 strips and whatever she couldn't get in the first huge chunk she would just keep laying down baby powder and hot wax and savagely going at it. She did not seem to care that I was audibly in pain, I commented on it multiple times. It's an extremely sensitive area and there's only so many times you should go over the same spot - she did not seem to care. She was in the biggest rush to get me out of there. After the wax from hell was finally done, I had dried and sticky wax all over my legs and my stomach and my personal area was waxed together (sorry TMI but its not okay). She handed me a towelette with some oil on it and said "this is to get all the wax off, sorry about that, clean yourself up" and left the room. I'm absolutely traumatized, my vagina hurts STILL and I will never ever ever be coming back to see her again. Side note: if this were my first ever Brazilian, I would never be getting another one in my life. It was that bad. Thank god I've had great ones in the past to compare it to. When I go to get waxed I want to feel like my personal needs are heard and met and I wanted to feel pampered, not covered in wax and told to clean it up. especially if I'm paying $75. DONT GO HERE AND SEE AMANDA. TERRIBLE. Apparently she's been waxing for 15 years.. read more

Worst experience of my life! First time going and instead of the woman telling me 5 minutes was too late she still began waxing anyway extremely fast and never explained the details or if being pregnant was going to affect the wax. She gave no knowledge. And it hurt so I asked if she could give me a minute to breathe. By then explains she will not have time to fully wax me and that I should consider paying for a bikini wax instead of a Brazilian. My vagina looks like someone threw a grenade at it and now I have to go elsewhere to get it completed. The staff laughed as I cried about the fact that she was gonna let me go home with a half ass done waxing with wax still on my body parts! It's disgusting and ruined my entire day and self esteem within my self. I felt so disgusted with this establishment and disgusted by the woman who felt the need to ruin my day and my private area.
