    I recently had Robert's Heating and Air come out to replace a simple capacitor. What should have…read morebeen a straightforward repair quickly turned into a long, frustrating experience that raised several red flags about their competence and business practices. During the initial visit, the technician began "checking things out" and making various adjustments throughout the system, including changing damper settings and inspecting unrelated components. Not long after this visit, my system began freezing up--a problem I had never experienced prior to their work. I called the company back, and to their credit, they responded promptly and sent another technician. However, this technician admitted he couldn't even locate all the dampers in the system and ultimately did not fix the problem. After yet another call, the same technician returned. This time, instead of revisiting the damper issue, he began "checking my system" again and diagnosed a faulty valve, estimating nearly $1,000 for the repair. Before I could even decide whether to move forward with the valve replacement, I was suddenly being told I likely needed to replace the entire HVAC system, with quotes ranging from $15,000 to over $21,000. When I didn't immediately commit to those numbers, I was sent another quote -- but this one completely omitted the valve replacement option and only included full system replacement costs. At this point, I felt something was off. I called a different company for a second opinion. Their technician inspected the system, closed a single damper, and my system has worked perfectly ever since. I can't say for sure whether the dampers were intentionally adjusted to create a larger issue or if it was simply negligence, but either way, it's unacceptable. What I can say for certain is that my system is now fully operational -- and Robert's Heating and Air is no longer my service provider. If you're considering working with them, I'd strongly recommend getting a second opinion before agreeing to any major repair or replacement.
