Same 12 tired songs after Dave and chuck. Every day. How about variety. New music would be nice

In addition to free summer concerts - they also run Earthfest every year - I believe that's the huge Festival on the Esplanade.

Quick question: What do you consider an acceptable number of times to hear "Sunny Came Home" by…read moreShawn Colvin in a week? If your answer is anything higher than "Maybe Once?" then this is the station for you, and I have a couple of followup questions. What's it like to be frozen in a glacier for 14 years, and are you disappointed we don't have flying cars yet? This station is always on in the background at work, and it makes me want to die. Prior to starting this job a month ago, I didn't really have an opinion on Michael Bublé. Now I want to set him on fire. How can a station that plays songs spanning the last half century have such a limited selection? It doesn't make sense! Lately, they've been playing this commercial about how you could win 1,000 free music downloads. The commercial explains that with a 1,000 song library, you could drive all the way across the country and still have songs you haven't listened to yet. Which makes me wonder, how many songs are in Magic's library that I can hear Spandau Ballet every single day? If it's about money, WMJX, give me a call. I don't have a lot, but I'll gladly buy you an iTunes gift card or something if it means I can go a few days without hearing "Tears In Heaven" again.

The only reason I even give it one star is because I am forced to give it something in order to…read morewrite my review. If I could deduct stars, that would be more fittng. Let me go further to say that if I could deduct one star for every day I heard the same 15 songs played, the star deficit for this radio station would rival the National Debt. "Call Me Maybe", "Stereo Hearts" (sans Gym-Class Heroes), "Every Rose Has its Thorns", "Ain't No Mountain High Enough" (The terrible Michael McDonald version), "Bad Day" and the entire playlist of Adele's "21" album, are just a few of the songs you will hear. Every. Single. Day. Don't get me wrong, I used to love Adele's sound and even downloaded a few of her songs, but after working at my job for a few months, I loathe her (or at least that CD, anyways.) Think of the movie Groundhog Day, now apply those rules to the radio and you get Magic 106.7. At the very least, I can say I get a great dose of comedy everyday when I hear their slogan, "The most music for to make your workday fly by." Thanks to these clowns, my work day goes by slower than a death caused by someone sandpapering you to death starting with your feet.

WERS used to be one of the best college radio stations in the country. Then, they apparently forgot…read morethat they are a college radio station. Instead of letting students take the lead, they hire a few cringeworthy amateurs like their insuffurable afternoon drive announcer and a host of their weekend Coffeehouse acoustic show who brings in the same six albums in her collection every week and plays the same one song from each. Last Saturday, I counted more than half a dozen songs which are played virtually every week. The careers of two of her favorites--Joanna Newsom and Broken Social Scene--hopefully be cut short by the international shortage of helium. They sound like Alvin and the Chipmunk tribute bands. Musical tastes are subjective but if the announcers don't know anything about the music, they should educate themselves. That's what college is supposedly about. The host of The Coffeehouse talks more about coffee than music. (Her conversation mirrors her musical choices--every comment on repeat). WERS might be able to cut back on their now incessant fundraising drives if they diverted some of the money they spend on MBTA advertising back into the station and if their management would more responsive to their students and their listeners.

This is the worst college radio station in America, which is nuts because 30 years ago it was among…read morethe best. College radio is widely understood as the freeform radio vanguard, where one can hear musical offerings unavailable on commercial radio. When I tune into a college station, I don't want to hear a single song I know. 99% of what WERS plays nowadays is Top 40 "alternative" music from the 80s and 90s. Stuff I've been sick of for decades. Honk shoo. It's a college station masquerading as a commercial station masquerading as a twenty year-old iPod. If you are a retailer looking for the most unchallenging background noise for your shoppers to ignore, or perhaps a listener looking for a radio station to convince you that not only has there been no good music made in the past 35 years, but also that maybe music was just never good, WERS is it.
