I want to start out by saying I've heard such good things about this festival over the years and have been tempted to go for multiple years but couldn't put my money towards it until the year when an artist got announced. Now this year may have been different than any other year but for me it was my first. Morgan Wallen was scheduled for the first day, the only reason I had ended up pulling the plunge and getting a game plan to go.
First things first, my dad decided he was going to buy our tickets for me, him and my sister. Now we decided cool we get to try out the military rate as he is recently a military veteran but served for 30 years. Now he paid for our tickets, paid for shipping and got a receipt email... but no follow-ups after that. After waiting until about a week and a half before the epic country music festival..our friends started getting their tickets. My dad unfortunately had ended up having to take a trip to Missouri and decided to let us go with one of our friends instead. But guess what.. no where in the fine print does it say, "Need to pick up your tickets at gate if purchasing military because we will need to see your I.D." Now you may be thinking, use common sense all people would buy military then etc. But he paid for the shipping cost...so why would he do that if they weren't shipping the tickets in the first place. Would have been nice to know right off the bat for military families wanting to go. OR at least send out an email a week or two before so we know that he could have went and picked up the tickets granted he would have had to drive 3+ hours to go do that and ticket offices (or wherever you pick them up - not stated) were only open Mon-Thurs 9-4pm so a little ridiculous if you have people traveling to pickup in the first place.
Now we contacted them when we realized he wasn't going to make it because we wanted to know where the heck our tickets were and you're right the response we got was "must pick up tickets and see I.D." Well too bad my dad was already in the car on his way out of state. So he kindly asked if his daughters could pay the difference and pick up tickets and get his refund for shipping. No problemo right. It all worked when they said that was fine.
UNTIL...we got to WeFest Thursday without knowing what the hell was going on because the line was miles long and people were passing out due to standing there for hours on end. With no communication what so ever what was taking so long, why lines weren't moving, or even how to get to other gates when they do have 3 of them, or why not send people to other gates so they could have avoided all the EMS calls. To your surprise staff communicated "we can't help you, we don't have that information..." Let's see. How does your walkie talkie work now? Or the golf cart and four-wheelers that you guys have and the staff riding around that could go check the lines and move some people to get people in faster. Kind of common sense if you ask me.
By that point after 45 minutes, my friends and I decided to go on an adventure to try to get from the Main Gate to the East Gate. Not easy because the staff were very irritable and kindly didn't know the answers to our questions. Finally got some answers and walked a couple miles to get there. The line was much shorter but then had to deal with the fact we had to pay the difference and figure out wristbands etc. Now let me tell you I felt such compassion for the workers because she was so nice and didn't know how to work anything and was trying her best.
Now after waiting in line for over an hour in all sorts of places we finally got in. But that didn't stop. We had to wait in another line to get a 21+ wristband...sadly the only 90 year old lady to wait in line for and have her check everyones I.D. and put a wristband on everyone which took another 45+ minutes. Then another hour+ waiting in line for alcohol to only get up there to the counter to find out one tablet could only take wristbands, one could take cards and wristbands but let's just shove people over in different lines because we couldn't put up signs or tell people. Super frustrating.
By that point it honestly just didn't feel worth it. Now to wrap it up with the review. The artists themselves were amazing and all worth that but the event as a whole was completely disorganized and had plenty of unhappy guests despite what the articles say the owners thought.
It'll take a lot of changes to get me to attend the festival again or another amazing headlining artist worth all the chaos.
On a little side note and advice to the owners. Maybe hire a bunch of teachers to help organize and plan your event because we all know, we would have done a much better job of it :) read more
