Aside from constantly running around to put back whatever my 2-year-old pulled off the shelf, I had a great time. Here's why this store rocks: SELECTION/CURATION: Fantastic selection. The store is pretty large and full of so many different things. There are your usual suspects i.e. dolls and dinosaurs but you can also find more unexpected items like a great selection of kites or a big shelf of finger puppets. The items seem very carefully curated. I noticed that a lot of their toys are from established quality brands or from overseas. Bought a little wooden magnetic train that was made in Ukraine. PRICE POINT: There are things at various price points. $100+ and under $1. So don't worry about your kids begging for a toy because there's a huge shelf of small toys (plastic bugs, balls, miniatures, and so much more) that are anywhere from .50 to $10. PLAY AREAS: There are several small play areas for kids including one that's more geared toward babies and toddlers. Aside from that, the whole store is a play area. Just do your best to clean up after them, obviously. BATHROOMS: Great bathroom situation. There are gendered bathrooms plus an all-gender bathroom. Each bathroom has an awesome diaper changing station with... drum roll please... FREE DIAPERS AND WIPES. I've never seen that before. So awesome. ALL AGES FUN: Honestly, this store is fun for all ages. There is a large rack of wacky sunglasses and a section for whimsical hats (obsessed with the Medusa hat). There are more grown-up toys like board games and puzzles (Rubik's cube and much more). There's a cabinet of collectible Matryoshka dolls. There are fun nostalgic items like a Sea-Monkeys kit. So much fun stuff to explore. COFFEE SHOP: There is a coffee shop attached to the store. It's super cute and filled with art from local artists for sale. Always awesome when you can get a coffee to give you an energy boost so you can be better at chasing after your kid. There are also two large chess sets available for use. Ultimately, this place is fantastic. I plan on bringing my family here anytime we need a gift for a birthday party. She honestly made the experience great, and I would give her 5 stars any day. We were allotted a few open studio hours during the course to come in and work independently. These were pretty strictly monitored, and the weekend time slots tended to fill up quickly (understandably) For the price that I paid, I was pretty pleased with taking classes here however I would add some caveats: 1. There are a lot of restrictions here (glazes are pretty limited, you cannot make pieces larger than 8 in, can't bring in most outside glazes that are runny) 2. There were a lot of different skill levels in my class. A majority of the students seemed to be repeating students from the previous cycle, and had a lot of wheel experience. There were only 1-2 people in my class who were beginners. If I hadn't already had some exposure to the wheel, I think I would've been completely lost as most of the class time was spent on demos that the class requested instead of set lessons. If the cost wasn't almost half of what other studios in town were charging, I would probably go to another studio because of the above reasons, but honestly the deal is too good to complain. If you're able to get off the waitlist and get a class here, I'd recommend trying it out if you have some experience already! Otherwise I would try to take a more beginner friendly class elsewhere first

Murders and Moontowers is the name. The center is clean and well lit. Welcoming is the term I think of, inside at least. It's a bit hard to see if you are not paying attention and parking is not great. Not the worst but crowded. Inside had interesting local art, I have some pictures, and a few benches. The theater room is decent sized and you can see and hear pretty well. We were in row 3 or 4 to the right if on stage. The troupe was good and there were some clever songs. It is about an hour and while the murders do factor in its mostly about the growing city and political dealing. I know it's an art center first but two quick things. The chairs are awful. They took me out of the play several times as I could not get in a position that didn't cause pain. Two: I can go without a snack or food but I need liquids. Water, soda, something. If you don't want to sell it allow us to bring lidded bottles or Yetis. Yeti like cups wouldn't leave trash and would allow for less issues. But that said I really otherwise enjoyed this. Shana, the woman who married me, agrees place is very cool. The cast signed a book we had on the killings which was cool. The songs were mostly fun and entertaining. The cast did a good job and told a fun story in just an hour. There were a few things that felt a little out of place but overall it was a good time.

Best known these days for delightful children's programming, the ASRT also serves as a rentable events venue, the site of many interesting touring act performances, and the ongoing home of one of the oldest Freemason groups in the state, Austin Lodge #12. The building was constructed in 1871 as a German opera house called Turner Hall, and you'll still find many interesting architectural details that hint at the original use. There's even an official state historical marker medallion out front. I really enjoy the intimate listening space and ease of movement out to lounges and the restroom, especially from the first row of the back of the theater. Parking for evening and weekend events is not too bad. There's a small surface lot at 1710 Colorado that is free for theater visitors after 5:30p and on weekends. If that doesn't work out, there is ample metered street parking managed by Texas Capitol (not by City of Austin) and a few private surface lots around with pay-on-site or reservations through ParkWhiz app. I usually don't have to walk more than a couple of blocks or pay more than 5 bucks. One thing that is not easy to do is to understand when upcoming public events are happening at ASRT. The theater's calendar lists only productions that they are managing directly (such as children's plays), and this is only a small sliver of what goes on here. However, if you are tuned into our local performing arts & culture scene, chances are that you'll see some upcoming events scheduled at ASRT and promoted through the hosting organization, such as SXSW, Sonic Guild, Russian Speaker Society of Austin, and others.
