Its really a great place to go for a walk or a jog - everybody who lives here does. Imagine living across the street from here. Every year you get to look out your window to the Blue Angels flying around and under the Golden Gate Bridge. These views regulars just take for granted. Very 'as a matter of fact' GGB there in view. Must stop and appreciate it. I do. Go through the paracourse and walk around and do a few loops. Push ups, sit ups, pull ups - all there for you. At the main Marina Green there is a Mastercard sponsored workout station to do even more reps. With Arnold Schwarzenegger voice: "TURN THAT MUSH INTO MUSCLE!!"

What a way to start the day! The look is towards the Golden Gate Bridge from the west. You can also check out the USS San Francisco Memorial. This is sort of the nexus between the Coastal and Lands End Trails respectively. Great views. You will find your 5G will not work out here as well. Get loaded up on the data you need is you get out in some of these beautiful trails. I always kick myself when I start a podcast when I am mid-way from Point Lobos to the Overlook. Not your average morning walk. I love it.

Still on a major health and fitness kick (I am looking good!!!) and decided to take a nice long…read morewalk along the bay in Tiburon today. Now I've know for years that there's a path that runs parallel to Tiburon Blvd next to the bay since I've sped by it in my car for years, but this was the first time I've ever taken the time to walk it and I'm really glad I did. From the convenient free parking at Blackie's pasture to the path's end upon arriving at the edge of downtown Tiburon, the path is beautifully paved and much of it looks like it has received considerable new landscaping and an abundance of nice benches to rest on. There are cute little romantic spots just off the path with a lone bench facing the water and even a hidden spot with a nice little gazebo with an inscription on the floor blessing all those who discover it. So peaceful...so serene...as you hear the water gently lapping at the shore. Along the water, you can see all kinds of nature and wildlife and the scenery is downright gorgeous. There are even fenced off areas for use as a natural reserve/animal habitat. During the scenic walk, there are very few places where you actually have to cross the street in front of cars and since it's Tiburon, there are no crazies or homeless to worry about as you walk around enjoying nature. The bronze statue of the horse "Blackie" at the very beginning was a really nice touch too. Apparently, he was quite a beloved landmark who could always be seen there for forty years until he passed away. Upon arriving in downtown Tiburon, we looked around all the little shops and even did some wine tasting before turning around and walking allllllll the way back. Hadn't realized how long the walk would be as it took about four hours total (roundtrip) including an hour in Tiburon. If you walk from one end to the other like we did, be aware that it will take some time as the distance is considerably longer than it seems. Next time, I'll park at the halfway point instead of the far end. As I mentioned earlier, there were tons of benches to sit on along the way. Sadly, there was only one bathroom along the entire multi-use path that I could find. I just couldn't believe it. As such, I couldn't give five stars, but it's still a great place for a nice walk, especially on a weekday when you can avoid all the crowds.

While the rest of the world worried about the ends of their hopes and dreams, I worried about not having any to begin with. I already thought I was too old at sixteen; twenty-eight seemed like sixty-four. The bay was motionless save for a small fishing boat and a commercial plane high over the Hayward hills. The faster I went down the hill, the faster the air would cycle out, and the less I could hear the music. The sun had finally passed the edge of the horizon, as if it had arrived to dry up the end winter. I was already going five miles over the speed limit and still some fat woman was tailgating me. I wanted to brake check her, but I saw how fat she was and didn't want her to die. It pissed me off on how fat someone could get. How could they let it get that far, that bad? It pissed me off that this bitch was tailgating me. I wanted to stab her in the neck. That made me think of some terrible things I'd seen on Faces of Death, and I didn't want to stab her in the neck anymore. I wished she'd have a heart attack. I didn't really want her to die. I slowed down until she finally passed me in her 1997 Nissan Quest. I only know it was a '97 because my parents have the same van, only theirs was maroon and the fat woman's was blue. She had managed to speed ahead far enough so that I couldn't see her car around the bend despite me speeding back to five miles over the limit. Of course near the bottom of the hill, at the first stop light is where I catch up to her. She's stopped and I'm right behind her. That was such a waste of bullshit. Bullshit is bullshit, but that was really a waste of bullshit. I'd always catch up at the bottom. These were my morning drives to work. Sometimes I'd be the tailgater, but more often I'd be the one that'd catch up. It's as if the entire drive across those mountains was pointless because we'd end up at the bottom together waiting for the same light to let us pass. "So there's a papa bull and a son bull at the top of a hill. The son bull looks down into the valley and sees a bunch of cows and gets excited. He says to the papa bull, 'Hey dad! Let's go run down there and fuck one of those cows!' The papa bull turns to his son and says, 'No son. Let's walk down there and fuck 'em all.'"

They're really not kidding about this being an open space because I'm not sure what makes this area…read moregeologically unique. A lot of trees and a lot of rocks. That pretty much summarizes my informed opinion of Loma Alta. Marked by an overpass bridge, it's off Sir Francis Drake Blvd just past Fairfax - though you need to slow down to turn off on the broadened shoulder to park comfortably. Don't let the speed-obsessed morons behind you feel bad about wanting to stop here. The underbelly of the bridge is saturated by graffiti, which actually makes it a visually interesting start to your hike. Now you can be adventurous and hike up Sunrise Fire Road almost right away and get to Loma Alta peak that much faster. That ain't me. I just followed the relatively flat, somewhat circuitous Old White Hill Grade to the Fox Hollow Trail. Very woodsy and on the edge of Marin suburbia, but you can get back to nature by following another fire road on Smith Ridge. Yes, your thighs get a workout during this uphill stretch, but it's not nearly as traumatic as the Sunrise route. The views were nice but truthfully not that extraordinary as Loma Alta felt a bit more enclosed than other similar open spaces in Marin like the adjacent Big Rock area. One unexpected treat occurred when I got back to the car and noticed there was a path aptly named the Sherwood Forest Trail. Here I was surrounded almost cocoon-like by a grove of big redwoods. Presented by the Pacific Inter-Club Yacht Association, this boat parade celebrates the start of…read moreboating season on the SF bay each spring and has reportedly taken place annually for more than a century. The boat parade route started from Crissy Field and ended near Pier 39. I viewed the event from Crissy Field East Beach while picnicking on the soft sand with blankets on hand on this breezy day, with periods of sunshine creating a beautiful atmosphere. It wasn't crowded, but there were definitely a good number of viewers, young and old, who had come out to enjoy the show. A combination of powerboats, yachts, and countless sailboats made their way across the water in an orderly fashion, amusing viewers on the shoreline. The 2026 theme was "myths and legends", though many of the vessels did not appear to be dressed up. In fact it was a very laid back event, no music or fancy displays. Most boats had sailed by during the first hour, though there were still a few stragglers after that, the event definitely not two hours long as noted by PICYA. I had a good time, got to relax on the beach while enjoying the surrounding scenery, even after all of the lovely boats had passed by. And it didn't cost a thing to attend.
