A gem of a business in Sausalito! Free parking by the Bay Model museum. Rates are fair and I love that they have a frequent paddler's pass that gives you discounted hourly rates. I rented the single kayak and it includes a life jacket, and the use of a dry bag. The kayak and gear were all in good condition. All the employees were friendly, knowledgeable, and efficient. They have a spot for kayaks where you just climb and in and they help push you in the water and bring you back in as well. Also they have free to use lockers, I think you might have to bring your own lock. They also have cubbies to leave stuff where staff is helping you take off with kayaks so I left my shoes there. This place is awesome! They provide wet bags and lifejackets and we watched a short safety video before heading out on the water. The staff were super nice! At the dock where you get in the water, there is a large floating platform and the guys help you and push your kayak in the water, which is nice because you don't even get wet! I'm a super fan of Sea Trek! We came to Sausalito on a day trip and the sun was out and so we felt it would be fun to go kayaking. So we looked up kayaking in the area and found Sea Trek. They welcome walk-ins so it was super convenient for us. We rented two double kayaks - $55 per hour each, prorated by every 15mins after the first hour. There was no fuss at the check in desk, just sign the waiver, put on life vests, and then head to the dock! I think they teach you how to kayak if you haven't before, and we just had free reign to do whatever we wanted. I highly recommend this place if you're in the area, kayaking is super fun! I have kayaked with Sea Trek for years, but this guided tour under our iconic Golden Gate Bridge and along the cliffs was absolutely breathtaking and exhilarating. Never ceases to impress me how much natural beauty we have in our back yard. The outing was guided by Mark, who has 30 years of experience and perfectly timed so that the tidal currents were with us in both directions. The elements can be a bit rough at times, so some experience in a sit-in kayak is recommended. But a little wind and waves just heightened the adventure! An absolute highlight. This was so much fun! As someone who has never set foot in a kayak, the Sausalito tour was a great place to start. The tour was a leisurely pace, and our guides were friendly and full of tips on how to paddle, get in/out of your kayak, and how to easily navigate the waters. We made a lot of stops to talk about the history of the surrounding area, and traveled as a group - nobody was left behind. We saw Oreo on the dock, and there were quite a few seals spotted as we were kayaking. None of them got too close, but they were swimming alongside us for a bit! As for facilities, there were maintained restrooms nearby, lockers to store your personal items, drybags for your phone and windbreakers in all sizes (pants & jacket). The Bay Model was a nice museum to visit after the tour as well. read more

Came here for a bachelorette party, was a pretty good experience. Did 4 hours (well, it was more like probably 30-40 mins of prep like getting a windbreaker, dry bag, paddles, and we were taught how to kayak forward and backward which I guess is part of standard process, and then 3-3.5 hours on the water) from Sausalito to the Golden Gate Bridge. 9 people, 2 guides, had three 2-person kayaks and one 3-person kayak. It was pretty fun! Water was pretty calm for most of it until we got to the bridge, got to kayak under the Spinnaker (restaurant that we were going to later) which was pretty neat. Saw some birds and seals, otters in the water as well! A few pelicans dove into the water for fish. Guides were great, really experienced, friendly people. Had a good time, made it to the bridge! Definitely on the longer side for a kayaking trip but was fun! read more

What a fun little hidden gem right outside of San Francisco we came here not knowing what to expect out of the experience but I was extremely surprised and loved every minute of my experience! You pay based on how long you're out on the water and it's totally up to you what you do with that time. We rented a two person kayak which ended up being a good choice on our end because the water can get a little rocky when the yachts pass by. The other option is a stand up Paddle board, which looked fun but I don't trust my own balancing skills. When coming here, you can get an up close opportunity to check out the floating houses in Sausalito and woww they are unreal all the boats and yachts passing by were another experience in itself. Everyone is so friendly, smiling and waiving and truly enjoying their time on the water. There's so many little seals either sun bathing or popping their heads up to check you out but still keep enough space that it won't freak you out. If you head the opposite direction of the floating homes, you get the most unbelievable view of San Francisco! The entire experience was breathtaking and I will 100% be back read more

My second time kayaking with Sea Trek. Fantastic outdoor activity *especially* if you have either of my scenarios: A) You need an affordable, safe, unique adventure for a large group and don't want to do much planning. Some years ago I was running a voter registration summer fellowship for 20 college students from Richmond. I needed a way of celebrating their hard work at the end of the fellowship and came upon Sea Trek. The staff and crew took care of everything. No one had ever been on a kayak. Everyone loved it and thanked me. I give all the credit to Sea Trek. B) Your teenage niece is visiting from out of town and all she wants to do is lounge around all day watching Tik Tok videos. I was really struggling with finding fun things to do especially with all the current COVID restrictions. Also, what do teenagers consider fun? Well apparently, kayaking! My 15 y.o. niece had a blast. She was really scared and freaked out at first but the crew was awesome. They gave her a mini orientation and showed her how to paddle. Also assured her that with her life vest she'd be more than ok. I love Sea Trek. Competent staff, good equipment. It's so nice out in the water. The scenic area in which you kayak cannot be beat. I love this place for paddleboarding or kayaking. There are usually a lot of seals that will swim alongside you. You can rent a board by the hour or buy a board elsewhere and there is free parking near by to take your board out. I go almost every weekend so I ended up buying a board and will probably buy another one. Great spot! read more

I've had three different experiences with Sea Trek, all of them fantastic: kayak rental, the intro to kayaking course, and the multi-day wilderness kayaking trip in Baja. The rentals are excellent quality, and they have closed deck kayaks if you're trained in self rescue. So to get trained, I took the intro course, which was very effectively taught - they show you all the basic strokes and techniques and such, but also have you flip over and dump yourself out (in a wetsuit) a few times and get back in the boat to make sure you know how. And the kayak trip in Baja was simply amazing - not just for the setting, but for the super helpful guides who cooked our meals and brought us to the best snorkeling spots and such, for a very reasonable price as these things go. read more

Came here for my birthday because I was not about to settle for a Zoom "party". I wish I knew about Seatrek earlier because I ended up having a really fun and successful socially-distant birthday. I've made several phone call and email exchanges with Seatrek prior to coming to have all my questions answered, and literally every single employee I interacted with was super friendly and helpful. Email responses are quick. I love that Seatrek is so honest about their opinions and not just about trying to rack in all the business they can. They blatantly told me that I wouldn't have as much fun going on one particular day due to strong winds, or that I should go early in the morning when it was more calm. I also like that Seatrek doesn't require you to have any prior experience at all to be able to go kayaking or paddle-boarding. Some other places make you take a mandatory class before they let you go free range. Seatrek just gives a quick verbal orientation (5 minutes) about general boundaries and safety/courtesy guidelines which was all I needed to have a fun and successful time. The views of the city and bay bridge on one side and Mt. Tam on the other side made the experience even better. I was tired and ready to go after about 2 hours. Rates are fair ($25/hour and prorated), but if you buy a 10-hour block of time, it reduces it to $15/hour (good deal if you plan on going with a group, but only up to 4 people can "use" the block of time). Once again, the employees here are the best. They are considerate and asked people standing in the back of the line if they were ready to check out (to stop their timer) so that they wouldn't have to wait until they got to the front of the line to clock out. read more

So much fun and the staff were very helpful. We kayaked out almost to the most-Southern part of the recommended paths and my daughter and I ended up having to hitch a ride back on a boat from one of the staff members who noticed that we weren't making a lot of progress making our way back to the dock once the winds/current got a little stronger. Absolutely loved our sunset tour with Alex and Sarah. Paid extra for the full moon, but the moon was still a few days from full, not sure it was worth that--super calm bay though. You don't get super close to SF, but it was lovely to see the lights from a distance and in the dark. Our guides were fantastic, and it was a small group tour. A little tiring towards the end for these middle-aged folks with minimal kayaking experience, but totally doable! ;) I would highly recommend. Bring a change of clothes. And a towel to dry off--you'd be surprised how much water seeps in from paddling. I didn't even realize it till I got out of the kayak, though, so it's not uncomfortable at all. read more

I have been paddling for 12 years and have never had a lesson until yesterday at Sea Trek. We learned self and other rescue techniques, 5 paddling strokes, briding, edging along with a brief intro to charts, wind and tides. I highly recommend this class which is #1 of 3 classes. They also offer private teaching. I was so impressed by their set up in a beautiful location and especially the staff who were all so interested and engaged with the paddlers. My sis and I took the beginner sit on top kayak class recently and it was fun and a good experience. My sis never kayak before and found it worthwhile learning about paddling, tides and currents, how to plan your journey, safety, etc. and getting some time in it. Kayleigh was a good instructor with lots of instruction and then some nature tips that are useful and shows her appreciation for the water. The staff are casual and helpful. It facility and equipment are good. The area is beautiful and calm in a marina with nature all around. There were some boats but we learned about how to navigate in such an area. On the website they did advise that you would need to be in shape in an active lifestyle. I'd agree. On my class we had to return prematurely which meant paddling against the current. I was on a big kayak and I got a workout. I'd also think you should know how to swim. Launching and landing on the floating dock was a bit tricky. We are in our 50's. I wish there were these types of service when we were younger. I'd been all over it. I think I'd like to try the SUP class next. read more

I'm so so thankful my friends and I chose you! I have been to many many rental places across the Bay, but had never seen a place so reasonably priced, clean, FRIENDLY, organized, knowledgeable, and SAFE most importantly. The parking is super easy with plenty of spots for free. The location is spacious and got beautiful views. It is wonderful that they even have free and clean windbreakers (jacket and pants) for people to choose from. How generous and wonderful! We came on a very windy day, a day where they didn't recommend people going out. The instructions were genuine and clear. We thought we'd give it try. They were so understanding and said that we could give it a trial run, and if we changed our minds, they wouldn't even charge us. One of our friends had a traumatic experience due to her fears and inexperience. Knowing that, three of Sea Trek employees stayed with us THE ENTIRE TIME while we were giving it a test run. They kept their eyes on us, giving us verbal instructions and one of them walked down the dock with us. They went above and beyond. We honestly couldn't have been more grateful and fortunate. The new location is even better with more parking available, and it's more spacious. The owners are great people, extremely down-to-earth. Bring your four-legged friend, it's dog-friendly. There are summer programs for kids, day trips, overnight trips, and classes. Sign up for special discounts on certain holidays. They offered a "Black Friday" kayaking deal for those who didn't want the shopping madness. When I saw their email special, my son and I took advantage of the deal. It was kind of hard to reach them at first since I was trying to get a conversation started on email. I emailed them through the website and they ended up calling back. We played phone tag a few times, I asked them to email me back but they sent me a really brief email and basically said they prefer to talk over the phone. Once I did get on the phone with them, I spoke to Mitch (I believe), who was really nice, explained everything, and was very accommodating. I wanted to book something for a large group, we had a limited amount of time, and the size of the group wasn't finalized. He recommended what would be best for our group and explained I just needed me to confirm the number about a week before the booking since he had to set aside kayaks and make sure we had guides there. He promised an email with a packing list, but didn't send that until I talked to him again a couple weeks later (they're just not big on email I think!). OUR GUIDES: Mark and Marcy were our tour guides. They were really chill and joked around a lot with our group - we had just come from a bit of a boozy brunch and were being kind of silly. They struck a good balance of informing us of safety measures and kayaking tips but having fun with us while going over important information. They were also really great on the water at keeping our group together and going at whatever pace we wanted. My kayak buddy and I got stuck a few times when an unexpected wind caught us and we were kind of cornered between a boat and a pier - Mark would tell us exactly how to paddle and in just 2 or 3 strokes we were out of there and back on track! THE COST: To be honest, they're a little pricey: $65 for a 3-hour tour. It takes about 45 minutes to get set up so you're on the water for 2 hours (which they were completely upfront about). GEAR: On the tour, you go out on fiberglass kayaks, which are more fancy (they have rudders, and you sit *inside* them with skirts covering the top). They go faster and are better against a strong wind than your everyday sit-on-top plastic kayaks. They also provide windjackets, windpants, skirts, and drybags, free of charge. They only have those giant camping drybags though, so if you want to bring your cell phone on the water, they have good quality large ziplocs. You can also leave valuables at their desk, and they have a public shelf for your extra clothes/bags. As a bonus, they also have a bike rack on site - great for those of us who biked there! THE TOUR: The 3-hour Sausalito tour, to be honest, was not too much of a full-fledged "tour", but they showed us a few cool spots including a museum of the history of the waterways of the bay area, the house boats, and just giving us general knowledge of the wildlife and rules on the water, etc. It felt like they kind of ran out of places to take us things to say because we actually looped back to the the beach where we set off from and they asked if we were tired and wanted to go back, but we were fine so they took us further out on an "obstacle course" under a pier - it was interesting, but it seemed like a small extra loop they do to buy time. We formed a "raft" a few times on the water, where we got all of our kayaks parallel and bunched together, put our paddles up, and were able to sail with our paddles!
