The inside carries through with the same elegant, old feeling. The pros: The owner of this business was very welcoming and also served as a gentle usher to move attendees from looking at the family's display and video into the service at the appropriate time. He also served as a wonderful host at the end when seeing each person out. The rooms of the facility made it an ease to flow from a circular table display (about the persons life) in one room, to an adjoining room where a video ran continuously with soft background music and chairs were set up so you could stop and watch, to the room where the actual service was held. There is both on street and off street parking. The cons: During the actual memorial service the sound system had a horrible high pitch feedback that was distracting. If entering from the front there is one step on the walkway that does not have a hand rail so it was difficult to manage with poor knees. Overall this is a nice facility with a professional and visible owner.

No plastic flowers adorn this cemetery, all bouquets must be real. There is a group of individuals that call themselves "Friends of Grove Hill". They plan work parties and hold training sessions on the restoration of some of the oldest monuments. There is a beautiful little Chapel in the midst of the oldest graves. Grove Hill Cemetery has a user friendly web site, www.grovehillcemetery.net Five stars can easily be awarded such a fine cemetery. Wait! This is a YELP review. You know a real review, by a real consumer, about a real experience! My husband and I came to Grove Hill back in 1997 in search of a location to bury our 13 year old son. It was an unexpected death caused by drowning in a flash flood. The nice representative welcomed us in his office and proceeded to describe locations available for a cluster of family graves. We knew immediately the site for us when we heard the description. "The graves will always be in the front row, slightly away from the road way because there is a partial row in front of the section but to the side of our plots. It's on the very front of the cemetery and overlooks the main roadway and train tracks." (Great for my husband and son who were/are train buffs.) NOW, HERE'S THE PROBLEM. The sales pitch we were told turned out to be totally wrong! The grave is in the same location, the internal road is still in the same location but our son's grave and our future graves are hidden behind a newer set of headstones. Grove Hill for this deceptive sales pitch you get one star. Unfortunately, to average the positive of a nice cemetery with a cemetery location that we now feel stuck with the overall rating cannot exceed two stars.

Working within the industry, I was impressed with the standard of care Johnson's provided to my dad, and all of the little, extra things they did to show their compassion, to make our time of grief easier, and how they aided in my fathers funeral mass and celebration of life to make it a memorable, healing event. The visitation was held in a very nice size room and there were plenty of chairs and places to sit for everyone. The flowers were tastefully placed in various parts around the room. They appeared to go out of their way to do anything to assist the family. The church service as well as the grave side service was as nice as any one I've attended and seemed to go off without a hitch. There was a flag ceremony and the flag given to his wife. I noticed later, when we returned to the church hall, that Newcomer even gave her the wooden flag case. A very nice touch. I would highly recommend Newcomer to anyone.

I contacted Newcomer who we had contracted to do my fathers funeral 9 years ago. They did an amazing job for my fathers and we knew they would do the same this time for my mother. I asked for the exact same thing that we did for my father, they pulled the sheet from 9 years ago and followed it to a T. Now here is the amazing part that I did not anticipate, the difference in price from 9 years ago to the present was three hundred dollars, not thousand but hundred. I was shocked. This post is not meant to paint me in the light of some tight wad person who only cared about price, what I am trying to say is this place has a formula and it works. There is nothing cheap about how they handle their clients, the total was about six thousand eight hundred, but you would have thought we paid 20,000 thousand for the service they provided. My father looked so natural, it was amazing. Now my mother is in their hands and we are receiving the same quality service we received in the past. I will always recommend this place because of their professionalism and I can attest to the value you will receive compared to what other homes quoted me.
