She has four children, and we believed this SUV would be a safe, reliable vehicle for her and the kids. The vehicle was not inspected when we purchased it, which we understood and accepted. However, after taking it to a local garage for inspection, we were informed that it would require significant repairs just to pass inspection. The cost of those repairs exceeds what the vehicle is worth. When I reached out to the dealership to explain the situation, I was simply told the vehicle was sold "as is" and that nothing could be done. I understand what "as is" means, but I wish the dealership had been more upfront about the vehicle's overall condition. Had we known it would require such extensive repairs, we would have chosen a different vehicle that better fit our daughter's needs and our budget. We were also advised that the air conditioning had recently been serviced. Hearing that gave us the impression that the vehicle had received some attention and maintenance before being offered for sale. While I understand the dealership states the vehicle had not been inspected, it was reasonable for us to believe it had at least been looked over to some extent. After the dealership refused to take the vehicle back, we had no choice but to keep it and planned to eventually resell it ourselves to minimize our losses. Unfortunately, that is when we discovered an even more serious issue. We still have not received the title for the vehicle. After contacting PennDOT, we were informed that they never received the paperwork necessary to transfer ownership into our name. We were also informed that the license plate provided with the vehicle was never properly registered. As a result, the vehicle remains titled in another person's name, and we are unable to legally transfer or sell it. This situation has left us with a vehicle that cannot pass inspection, requires repairs that exceed its value, and cannot legally be sold because the ownership paperwork was never properly processed. Had we known we would be facing these issues, we never would have purchased this vehicle. I wasn't expecting a perfect used vehicle, especially at this price point. I simply expected honesty, transparency, and a little compassion. Knowing the circumstances we shared about why we were purchasing this vehicle, I had hoped the dealership would show more understanding and work with us in some way rather than simply pointing to the "as-is" paperwork. Between the inspection issues, the absence of a properly transferred title, and the registration problems, this has been an incredibly frustrating and disappointing experience for our family. I am sharing our experience so other buyers understand the importance of thoroughly researching a vehicle, obtaining an independent inspection, and confirming that all title and registration paperwork has been properly completed before finalizing a purchase.
