There is a variety of memorials and even a journal where you can write your sentiments, but my favorite thing is to just take in the beauty of the place that I call home. Today's hike was awesome. No pace to keep, no rush to get back, just enjoying being in the moment.

There is plenty of sights to see and if you like wildlife watching, this might be a place for you to check out. Also, plenty of sage brush to smell too. Nothing like sage brush smell after a good rain fall. Speaking of which the next time it does rain you should definitely come by here just for that because it is therapeutic and healing. I love it. There is plenty of parking. I have never had an issue finding any parking. It can get a little crazy during spring time because of all the hikers and mountain bikers. But it has never made me think about not going because there wont be parking. There is plenty. There are no restrooms on this side of the trail. So, be aware of that. So during the summer time might not be the best time to come here because this trail is very sun exposed and doesn't have a lot of trees to provide shade, unfortunately. With that said the views here of Reno, Nevada at night is pretty awesome and beautiful because there isn't many trees here. It is a good and bad thing because it is very hot during the summer but I just keep looking at the pros haha. I would definitely recommend going spring time and fall time. Coming in the Winter is quite a different story as everything is leafless and dry, so I decided to venture out into the canyon. There are so many possibilities for exploration, but limited on time, I decided on a quick loop up the Rancho Connector. It was a steady incline, but worth the views of downtown and nearby snow-capped mountains. Awesome time! If you are looking for a hike that is easily accessible and has a diverse trail system, come check it out. Also worth the mention is The National Monument to the Basque Sheepherder just past the trailhead.

It is however a review of the drive up there and back. WOW! I had no idea there were ranches and mansions there! So beautiful. The homes, the land, the cattle, the horses. Who knew? I'm a relative newcomer to Reno having moved here in 2014. I love it here for so many different reasons not the least of which is discovering the hidden gems that are so close to my home. It's well worth the drive even if you aren't a hiker.

It was an experience doing it in the afternoon sun with a good amount of the trail in the sun. I recommend going on a cooler day or start earlier. Great to cool off in the waterfall on a hot day once I got there. Overall the trail was plenty long enough for a day hike, especially when I needed to have a late start on a hot day.

This is a neat little trail inside of the Golden Eagle sports complex. It has a few signs giving…read morehistory of the area and the fauna as well. The loop is small enough for even the most out of shape person to go around. Currently the asphalt is unbroken and smooth enough even for someone with a walker. The sad thing about the loop is the dog feces on the side of the trail. Too many rude dog owners are being donkeys and letting their dogs do their business in the brush. The trailhead also has a seasonal toilet as well as a nice covered space for what I assume is for nature talks before organized nature walks. The scenery is not up close but seen from a distance. Seeing the different topography of the area and the relative quiet are the draws for me. We did see a father teaching his daughter how to ride her bike here. The path is nice and wide. This park honestly would be good in any season but the high heat of summer. Parking is plentiful.
