Hands down a grand spot for a really stiff drink. The vintage bar, jazz tunes, local juiceheads and shuffle board all lend to the vibe and add a dash of color. Alex and minions mix some of the meanest and tastiest concoctions in Chicago and they exhibit little fear and take on any serious request with a devilish glint in their collective eye. I got nothin' bad to say about this place other than that I don't get there nearly often enough. It's a terrific neighborhood spot, a great space, an immaculately maintained shuffleboard table, a fantastic old-man-bar vibe, and generally the kind of place I wish there were more of. Here's the ticket: the first time I went, I ordered a martini, and the bartender took her sweet time with it; it ended up being one of the best martinis I've ever had in my life. You can't put a price on that, but they did, and it was perfectly reasonable. I can't say enough about this place. I hosted my birthday here a couple weeks ago and the bartender was very calm and patient with us. The atmosphere is great. The drinks are great and the bartenders know what they're doing. You can get an awesome fancy drink for a little more money or you can get a cheap PBR. I love when bars still offer a cheap alternative. If I lived closer you better believe I would go there more often. read more

Offering classic cocktails, done right. If you like your cocktails well balanced, this is your place. If you want a cocktail that tastes like flavored simple syrup, you should probably stick to Violet Hour. In addition to an excellent menu of very well crafted drinks, the lounge has an excellent ambiance. Old school tin ceiling and an old wooden bar. This is probably my favorite bar for atmosphere and conversation. It's never too crowded, the music is understated and classy, the bartenders are great (I'm just a beer drinker, so I don't know about all the fancy cocktail lingo and what-not - it's never been an issue), and it feels really intimate. Plus, shuffleboard! Like many other reviewers have said, it's like stepping back in time into a more sophisticated era. read more

While this may seem harsh, I post my first 1-star review without hesitation. Picture this... Sunday night, NO ONE in the entire place... I roll in with my husband and 6 friends... The owner was seated at a table working on his laptop when we arrive. One might believe that he would be happy to see 7 people walk in with bulging wallets and a pleasant, jovial demeanor. Instead, we were subjected to his condescension and unwelcoming attitude. One of our friends requested a Miller Lt or Bud, and in a very haughty manner, we were informed that he "didn't carry such products." Another friend asked for a Bacardi and again, he said that he would not carry it (which as a business owner is totally his prerogative, and I'm a-okay with that). However, he did not offer any suggestions as to substitute rums, and when I inquired as to whether or not they had Montecristo rum, he snottily chided that he wouldn't carry a "well" rum such as that (mind you... Montecristo is by NO means a low-budget rum, and is in fact a somewhat pricey pure cane sugar rum, which is COMPLETELY beside the point, b/c this man should not have been subjecting us to his personal commentary on our alcohol selections). So, we stayed for 1 round of drinks, and decided that we didn't need to be in the unpleasant company of this man. I returned the shuffle board equipment, in exchange for my driver's license, and in a very pleasant and respectful manner, I said to the guy that we would have been happy to stay longer and spend more money, but he didn't exactly seem as though he wanted us there. He informed me that b/c we requested liquor selections that they didn't provide, and also b/c a friend asked whether they had a jukebox, he felt that it wasn't the right bar for us. Pardon? He informed me that the bar was better suited to people after a date. Seriously? There are NO people in the place, and he's concerned that we don't have the right "vibe" for his establishment. Ridiculous! I point-blank asked the guy, "would you prefer that we never visit your establishment again?", and he basically told me that he never wanted to host us again. Now, literally, we ordered a $24 round, on which I tipped him $7. We were respectful, pleasant, and by NO means obnoxious drunks or in any way unsavory clientele. This man is a business owner, and should realize that the success of his establishment resides in the strength of his customer base. We live in the neighborhood, and would be happy to support the local bar, if there was even a decent attitude to the place. (As a side note, this was my second experience in the bar, and on my first trip, the bartender was so busy chatting about himself that it was a damned near impossibility to acquire a beverage). Bottom line, we ended up relocating to a much more pleasant establishment where we easily dropped a couple hundred bucks. Not sure why this guy was such a judgmental snot who was above taking our money and treating us with respect. I will N-E-V-E-R step foot in the place again, and it pains me to think that anyone would spend their hard-earned money in this bar. I believe in supporting hard-working people, and feel that this business owner does not cater to his customers and has zero concept of hospitality, and therefore does not deserve my business. I would strongly encourage you to spend your money elsewhere. read more

I somehow lived in Logan Square for three months before I realized this bar was two blocks from my house. I will be back enthusiastically and often. WeeGee's is a checklist of perfect-bar qualities. It IS, as other Yelpers have pointed out, a little pricier than one would expect from its location, but it's still about the same as say, Map Room, and it makes sense, considering the type of crowd that a $1 PBR can special draws in this neighborhood... The result is a bar that's cool without being packed full of pretentious faux-boho dirtbag art dicks. AND, at the same time, its slightly rough-around-the-edges location and refusal to stock stuff like Jack and Captain keeps the jags away. Like I said, perfect.... read more

A regular for me since I live walking distance. I never would have imagined that an old historic bar with a prohibition era theme was behind the plywood door at the entrance. A coworker told me about Weegie's and I thought to myself "Why haven't I gone in?". I walk past this bar all the time. I can stumble home (haven't done it yet and probably won't) from this bar. Don't let the exterior or the location fool you. A gorgeous patio awaits along with great drinks, craft beers, and my favorite bourbons and ryes. The best part about Weegie's is the scene. There is no loud music, no TVs, no PBR drinking hipsters, and no sports. I entertain myself with my fascination of the old historic wooden bar. It is by far the most beautiful bar I have patronized in all of Chi Town. That says a lot. I find myself imagining stories of 1920s steel working men getting off their graveyard shift and bellying up to that bar. Such rich tones of wood and decal. They don't make bars like it anymore. The owner of Weegie's has my utmost respect for not damaging the historic look of the bar and keeping it original. Speaking of the owner, he seems like a decent guy. I spotted him in there on a few visits. He was always cordial and said "hi". Weegie's is my local watering hole. Matter of fact. I think I need a break right now and should walk over there for a beer. They have a nice selection of craft brews. read more

Enjoyed this place until a bouncer on a power trip refused to let my friend in because he had an out of state ID. My 27 year old friend said, calmly, "I've lived here for three years and have never had this issue." The bouncer's response? "I don't give a s***, get an Illinois ID." Classy! I won't be returning. There are plenty of other good cocktail bars in Logan Square with nicer staff. read more

This place is kind of fun, well the shuffleboard is. The atmosphere is a nice sort of quiet dive bar. The drinks weren't bad as we ordered off the menu. But, man, that bar tender was a complete jerk. He was rude, ignored us, and kept giving my friend a dirty look while rolling his eyes. I'd go back but only if there's another bar tender. read more

This is a great venue in Logan Square! They have an amazing beer list and menu. The parking is easy and the neighborhood is very accessible off Armitage. The new 606/ Bloomingdale Trail is a block south. I highly recommend this place. read more

WEE GEES, i love that lounge, great music, great atmosphere, good games, uno, shuffle board,etc. ALEX and JOHN are great bartenders, but jeffery, he's one unto his own, he doesn't respect sometimes, he's there to serve us what we want, not what he thinks it should be, if i want my drink a certain way, then do it, don't argue about it and still serve it to me you're way, so, like i said, great place, just don't go there if you see the angry Blackman!!! while the other two are the best I've ever had. read more

I read about Weegee's lounge in an article in TimeOut Chicago at work over the summer. I checked it out on a tuesday night, figured that was my best bet to see it for what it was and not have to deal with a typical saturday night crowd. LOVED it! The staff is personable and polite. I was able to browse the drink menu without feeling rushed and ordering something lame and basic. The drinks are priced reasonably, if your a cheap hipster bastard you might not think so, but then again you would be used to ordering $2 pbr's. The music is classic and at a perfect conversation level. There is a cozy outdoor patio connected (smoker friendly). 5 stars, I've found my favorite chicago bar :) read more

so unfortunate.... this place could have possessed the perfect recipe, but instead we encountered the perfect storm (of an asshole bartender). well-crafted cocktails, a decent beer selection, sweet interior vibe and free shuffleboard were all irrevocably spoiled by a supreme douche. what further perplexes me is that i think this guy was the owner! wow. you are true shit; and, we let you know that. go anywhere else. btw, the whistler and the violet hour blow your cocktails cleanly away. read more
