Being it was late in the afternoon he dropped off the gates and said he would return the next day. We noticed on one of the gates it was a foot too short also numerous areas that had damage. We took photos and sent them along with our concerns to him. His response was very angry and unprofessional , that's all I have to say about it. After that I received a quote from all of them within 48 hours. The reason I decided to go with AZ Custom Landscapes was because I was very impressed with how Martin explained the project to me and he was the only one who mentioned a weed barrier for the areas where I wanted to add small rocks. It was easy to work with Kary during the entire project and her responses to my question were quick especially to my design changes. Also, their price fell somewhere in the middle of the 4 quotes I received and it came with a 2 year guarantee. When the project started, Martin walked me through what he and his team will be doing during the week. Once they got done, they cleaned everything nicely and walked me through to get my approval. They did all the site prep, installed all the tile pavers, a concrete slab for a hot tub and artificial turf. They also built a built-in BBQ for me and ran the natural gas to the BBQ.  Before I hired them, I bid the job out to three different companies.  AZ Custom Landscapes was the most professional throughout that process, and the only company that gave me a detailed bid in only a couple of days (the others took much longer!) and the only that could do it all themselves. Martín and the rest of the workers were professional, respectful and hardworking.  They showed up when they were scheduled to, worked long days and always cleaned up the job site at the end of the day. They worked with me on fine-tuning some of the details of the job, and helped me with a few extras that weren't on the list! I increased the scope on site to cut out some old cement and remove a steel 4" pole cemented into the house foundation - had all the equipment with him to execute and upcharge was nominal and more than reasonable. I saw on Yelp that they were reading/reviewing the request when I sent it, multiple days before. Did they respond? No. I followed up with some irritation that despite being recommended, they are doing nothing. What irks me is that they say they will respond 100% of the time - which clearly isn't the case. Why would anyone want to do business with them, when they have zero desire to return any message at all? Normally I avoid these types of postings - with just complaining without seeing results - but folks need to be aware of this supposedly "service."

I searched for a masonry contractor, call a half dozen, three came out to the site, and we really "clicked" with Braulio. He grew up in his father's and uncle's construction business and has now branched out on his own. I cannot recommend Southwest Valley Contracting highly enough. Braulio and his employees (including his brother and cousin) are polite, prompt, and know their stuff. Braulio communicated both in person and via text multiple times throughout the process to be sure we were always on the same page. He listened to our ideas and concerns and then gave us his professional insight. His price was right in line with the bids from the other two contractors and very fair considering the brute labor required in 100+ temperatures! They demolished our existing wall and began trenching for the new footer in one day. Then the rebuild began with perfect integration to the existing wall. They even came on the weekend to finish what they started. Plus, they regraded the backyard, fixed a couple of broken irrigation drip lines and cleaned up all their construction debris. In less than 2 weeks, we had doubled the sized of our backyard! Our beautiful new wall is stuccoed and ready for paint. We will definitely call SWVC when we're ready to put in our fireplace and pavers. Even our neighbor was so impressed he wants to use them for his next project.

In a final attempt, I asked for a referral, and they gave Braulio's info and high praises. They were right! Braulio answered all questions in a very knowledgable manner, gave the second lowest price out of six bids, and was the most professional across the board. Even hitting a snag with the project, which is not uncommon in construction, he made sure there was communication, follow through, and resolution. I couldn't ask for anything more. He did a great job and at a reasonable price. Even with me being a bit of a control freak, Braulio never missed a beat. We made sure that there was clarity on what I wanted, what he could provide, and if it was a good fit. This project was for cutting back my block wall and widening the gate opening, as well as using a composite material for pickets versus wood. We are very pleased! We have already discussed that we will call on him again when we are ready for our paver/gas firepit addition.
