The Siskiwit River cascading waterfalls is something you really don't want to miss. You can walk along side of the river over new boardwalks on the 102 acre preserve, or fish in the kettle hole downstream. Be sure to wear your water shoes because it can get slippery with the moss on the rocks! I have been coming to this special place for years. It was owned by Swenson family and we enjoyed many visits to the cabins along the river (the cabins have been removed to make the parking area). Originally, this was a apple orchard and farm (you can still find the apple trees here today). THIS is how much I love Yelp....I'm divulging the location of this special spot! We were a little late but they were waiting for us all setup. We made it off first under the foot bridge in the early morning at around 5:45AM. Then, my girlfriend's dad lost the first fish so then my girlfriend's sister reeled in the second fish. I was another 2-3 hours until we hit the jackpot and everyone in our party of 5 snatched a lake trout. Afterwards, Rob filleted our catch and Kyler took photos of us with the rod of 6 lake trouts. Hands down the most fun on my entire trip to Duluth. After getting back, my girlfriend's mom fried our catch which was delicious.

However, the water in the women's shower (which there is only one of, it made it hard for our girls group of 4 to shower in a timely manner) is so hot you feel scalded on the coolest setting.... They need to turn down the water heater before someone gets seriously hurt. The spots aren't overly large, but the park is quiet! There isn't a lot of shade, but you can sit by the lake at a bench in the shade. And then, there is the elephant in the room, who puts trail cams up on all their trails? This place must be high crime that they need so many. If you need somewhere to stay in a pinch like we did, and you have an RV with a shower, this is a decent place to stay. But, it's not a destination stay.

I booked Tom Boley last summer for a half day guide with my son. I called the week before to…read moreconfirm and all was good. I wanted to make sure he was meeting us at the resort so I called 2 days before our trip to confirm that but he never answered. I left a voice mail but it wasn't returned. I tried again the next day and the day of the planned trip, nothing. I asked the resort owner and he said that Tom should pick us up at the resort, as they normally do. Well, needless to say, he never showed. This guy is a joke and I'd never try to hire him again. I talked about the problem at 2 different resorts, just this weekend (May 2016), and they both said they don't recommend him anymore because not showing up seems to be his thing, they've had heard the same complaint from a bunch of people. I don't know how this guy stays in business but he's extremely unprofessional and a real jerk for not even calling to say he couldn't make it. If you need a guide, try Dan Seibert, Deano, Ty Sennett or a couple others but pass on Tom Boley.
