She canceled our next appointment day of so I left a vm to reschedule. Office took weeks to call back. 2nd try was a CNP as Audrey left, when CNP are not trained as therapists. She warned me a drug rep may enter, so not HIPAA compliant. I just wanted someone to listen, but she talked the entire time making false assumptions and suggestions I had already tried. 3rd appt I had a work emergency come up so I was forced to late cancel. I was charged a late notice fee of $75 when the office had done the same to me already, was I supposed to charge a late notice fee? Life happens to everyone. The office is also pretty hard to reach. Sadly I do not recommend this office.

He was also unable to make the agreement with me that we never discuss the financial aspect of treatment. He stated this is part of private practice. I disagreed. I thought his evaluation was very fair. In addition, he gave me some excellent advice on dealing with stress and provided me information on the long term effects of drinking while taking an anti-depressant that probably saved my life if I'd continued doing what I was doing. I know Dr. Kaplan has received a very negative review but I'd be willing to bet that's from an employer who lost a discrimination or harassment case and had to pay damages based partly on Dr. Kaplan's evaluation. In my case, me and my previous employer both benefitted from Dr. Kaplan's evaluation because he was able to diagnose acute anxiety related to the actions of my supervisor but Dr. Kaplan felt I would not have long-term issues because I was so open to appropriate treatment and because I had a strong support system at home. In the end, the settlement I received was irrelevant when compared to the control I took back over my life with Dr. Kaplan's help.

He is kind, non-judgmental and easy to talk to. Appointments are easy to schedule and I'm never stuck sitting in the waiting room for long periods of time. The treatment plan is always clear and I get to have a voice in it. I've always felt like my feelings and issue were taken seriously and never invalidated. I highly recommend him.

He claims to also specialize in severe childhood trauma and dissociative disorders. I'm grateful that I got away before he could retraumatize me more than he already has. The only reason I'm leaving a review is to potentially save even ONE vulnerable survivor from making the mistake I made in seeing him. (He met with me twice via zoom. I opened up to him which took great courage. He called me a few days before our third session and told me to find someone else who can help me because he didn't think we were a good fit. This is devastating to any survivor of horrific childhood abuse and he, of all people, should know better! Luckily, I've done a lot of internal healing work over the past few years, so even though his phone call was upsetting, it didn't throw me into chaos and make me suicidal. I shudder at the thought of him doing this to someone else who hasn't done the healing that I've done! This could be the straw that breaks the camel's back for them!) Again, STAY AWAY.

In trying to find out about a drug prescribed for me by one of the other counselors, I hit a brick wall. Twice I have had a prescription refused by my insurance provider. I have tried to resolve this asking if there is a different Rx the insurance might approve as I can't afford the large out of pocket expense. The counselor who prescribed these is either not in or will not return calls. The office staff person who said she would call back did not call and is not in, nor will the other staff member assist me. She said "I don't want to get involved." It's never a good sign when a mental health agency destroys your mental health with its poor behavior. In addition, the prescribing counselor also ordered a drug that we had just agreed I would stop taking. I had no way to stop the order or to reach the counselor. I had to pay for something I no longer can use. Benhaven Counseling is becoming increasingly useless.
