Wir waren gestern im Weinhaus Schneider zum Fondue essen. Wir bestellten zu erst ein Vorspeisenteller für 12,80 EUR. Lachs, Thunfisch, Ei, Salami, Schinken steht in der Karte. So kam es auch, aber die Portion war eine Frechheit für den Preis. Sage und schreibe zwei ganz kleine Scheiben Salami und Schinken dazu eine Gabel voll Thunfisch eine Scheibe Lachs und ein Ei. Das größte auf diesem Teller war eine Scheibe Zitrone. Nun gut dachten wir uns kann nur besser werden. Als Hauptgang wählten wir Fondue Chinoise. Pro Person für 26 EUR. Es gab Schwein, Pute und Rindfleisch auf einem kleinen Teller. Die Portion war jetzt nicht die größte aber alles in allem ganz ok. Dazu gab es Mixed Pickles ausm Glas und sechs verschiedene Soßen und etwas Brot. Das Fleisch war frisch und gut zubereitet, aber die Soßen.leider nicht die besten und bestimmt nicht selbst gemacht. Auf Nachfrage gab es noch eine Portion Fleisch für 12 EUR. Alles in allem war das essen ok weil das Fleisch wirklich sehr gut war, nur leider waren die Beilagen und die Soßen eine mittlere Katastrophe. Ich werde aber wieder hingehen um etwas anderes zu probieren, auch allein wegen dem Ambiente wird es sich lohnen. Sehr gemütlich und ruhig obwohl das Restaurant sehr gut besucht war. Der Service könnte etwas besser organisiert sein aber das macht die Chefin mit Witz und Charme wieder wett. So geht man mit gemischten Gefühlen. Es ist ja schon sehr gemütlich im Weinhaus Schneider. Ein kleiner verwinkelter Raum, sehr rustikal eingerichtet. Und auch die Spezialität des Lokals, Fondues aller Art zu servieren, hat seinen Charme. Das Preis-Leistungsverhältnis ist jedoch, selbst wenn man die Innenstadtlage direkt am Marienplatz geltend macht, geradezu unverschämt. Gute 30 Euro, wohlgemerkt pro Person, für 14 mittelgroße Stücke rohes Fleisch, einen Salat und Brot vom Vortag. Dazu war die Fleischqualität äußerst bescheiden, so waren die Fleischstücke nicht von Sehnen und Silberhäuten befreit. Der Service war nicht wirklich aufmerksam, so wurden Getränke vergessen oder das Brot nicht nachgereicht. Der Gipfel war allerdings als uns suggeriert wurde, wir könnten einen Nachschlag an Fleisch bekommen und erst nach mehrfacher Nachfrage von der Bedienung eingestanden wurde, dass dies erneute 10 Euro pro Person bedeuten würde. That said, we want to recognize our waiter, Anil, who was incredibly kind, welcoming, and professional. He provided excellent service and was the highlight of our visit. We understand restaurants can be busy, but honest communication and treating every guest with the same respect go a long way. We hope the management takes this feedback seriously.

Situated about two blocks from the main square at Marienplatz, the Augustiner am Platzl sits kitty-corner from the famous (and very touristy) Höfbräuhaus München. The Augustiner is a much smaller beer hall, offers a more authentic atmosphere, and feels very much like a place that locals go. Having eaten there every time I've been to Munich, we chose it as the place for a special family meal. The menu offers a wide variety of traditional German dishes including brathaus beef, Nürnberger sausages, schweinsbraten (pork), roast beef with onion, grilled chicken (for the less adventurous) and more. Soups and salads were also on the menu and our party of 13 ordered a pretty impressive cross-section of the restaurant's dishes. The establishment is tied to the Augustiner brewery, which lays claim to being the oldest of all existing Munich breweries, dating back to the early 14th century. As a result, only Augustiner beers are on offer, though there is a good selection, including "hell" beer (light or bright), edelstoff (a light export beer), dark, pilsner and wheat beer. There is also a decent selection of both red and white German wines and of course, soft drinks. But this is Germany! What adult needs a soft drink? The day we visited was also our oldest grandson's 15th birthday so there were many reasons to celebrate. And this occasion was made even more memorable by the others who shared the upstairs dining room with our party of 13. When we sang "Happy Birthday!" many of our fellow diners joined in the singing and the applause that followed. Talk about making us feel like part of the community! Between the great food, attentive service (even by American standards!) and the convivial atmosphere, I highly recommend the Augustiner am Platzl for anyone wanting a true German dining experience.
