The complex is located 6 min. drive from Lake Cascade, 35-40 min drives to either Tamarack or McCall, and there are various restaurants nearby, plus Kelly's Whitewater Park is 1/2 mile away. Alpine offered the ideal setup for us, affording motel rooms, large & small lodges (more like Air B&Bs), and RV and tent spaces - plus outdoor and indoor areas for group dining, fire pits, and some limited recreation (the indoor "Pavilion"). Something for everyone! The motel rooms were upgraded, with a forest/country theme. The owner and staff bent over backwards to accommodate us in every way. We were totally pleased and highly recommend this place.

This is one of our favorite campgrounds, tucked in next to Brownlee Reservoir at Hells Canyon…read more It's one of a series of Hells Canyon campgrounds operated by Idaho Power, which operates several dams used to produce electricity in Hells Canyon. It contains 118 camper sites with water and electrical hookups, along with a dump station. Another 15 sites, with shared water, are tent-only. Those sites are steps away from the shore. The campground also includes restroom buildings with free hot showers. You can even see Russia, I mean, Oregon from the shore. We typically stay in B Loop, which has large sites with some room between campsites. The C Loop sites are closer together and there's generally more noise produced from families and groups of friends sharing the sites. Wi-fi is available through a private provider, at $5 for two devices for $5. Hookup instructions are provided on a flyer attached on restroom bulletin boards.

Camps/conferences: Located in Donnelly, ID on Lake Cascade, this venue offers a stunning view of Tamarack ski resort across the way. The campground is well-kept, clean, and offers lodging for both large and small groups alike. In the summer, they have paddle boards, canoes, and kayaks that you can take out on the water, and in the winter, cozy up in the fireside room next to the fireplace. Wedding Venue: I have had 3 friends get married here, and all have had gorgeous ceremonies/receptions. When nature gives you a remarkable backdrop, it sure does help bring down the cost of decorating. I've seen two ceremonies near the water area, and one out in an open field. Most recently, my best friend got married here and opted to have her ceremony and reception in the open field. Her father-in-law constructed poles to hang lights from over the whole reception area and dance floor, giving this fall wedding a dreamy and whimsical feel to it. Additionally, they allowed the caterers to use the kitchen to prepare the food for this event. The bride and groom also paid a little bit extra so that the wedding party could stay the night in Faith Height's cabins/lodge the night of the wedding, as Faith Heights is about a 2-hour drive from Boise. Overall: Gorgeous and dreamy. A great canvas for event planners or wedding planners to work with!

I had the pleasure of having Baileigh as my guide on a solo trek to the viewpoint. Was like taking a ride with a great friend, and was the most fun I had on my trip to McCall. With a passion for horses that can not be measured combined with many years of experience, I always felt that I was in capable hands on the trail. Some of the best things come in small packages! My horse, Timmy, had a gentle temperament, and was very well behaved. Taking a horseback ride like this takes you back to a much simpler time that is both relaxing and exhilarating; quite a rare combination! Sky was able to fit me in without a reservation, since I had not known about the place in advance, and was very accommodating on short notice. Be sure to reserve in summer though! After having such a great experience, I plan to return to take a ride into a simpler time on each visit to McCall for camping!

Our guide, Sky, was on her phone during the ride and only answered questions when we asked. She did the bare minimum. Our daughters said the ride was beautiful and the horses were fun to ride but mentioned how awkward it was to ride in silence for over an hour. Our experience did not match up with the reviews and it seemed as though the experience was adjusted based on the tip which is collected prior to the experience. We paid with a credit card and I had cash for a tip but decided to put a partial tip on the credit card and I presume Sky thought we were shorting her and it truly felt like she adjusted our experience to align with her presumed tip and she treated us with a noticeable lack of hospitality for the entirety of the ride. It was very uncomfortable that the establishment expected a tip before the ride even began. I understand that tipping is customary, but demanding it prior to the service, and then providing an uncommunicative guide is unacceptable. I cannot recommend this establishment and left feeling entirely disappointed in fact when we share the highs and lows of our trip, this was our low. Had I known I would have expressed we planned on tipping cash or would have just omitted horseback riding here all together.

The campground, with electric and water hookups, is located off a Payette National Forest road and is surrounded by trees. It includes RV and tent sites. There's also vault toilets. It's in a perfect location for exploring the trail or for resting at a quiet location off the beaten track.

Hells Canyon Reservoir runs from Copperfield Oregon up north along the Snake River/Hells Canyon all…read morethe way up to the dam. It's a long, fairly narrow reservoir that sits in a steep, picturesque canyon. You can access it from both the Oregon and Idaho sides, with numerous areas for camping and boat launch on both sides. This river reservoir is nestled in a hot, dry climate and offers an emerald-hued escape from the oppressive heat. We visited on a day that crested well over 100 heatwave) and, well, that's pretty much perfect for enjoying the cool water. There are a ton of trailheads along the reservoir if you want to hike up to the canyon rim, and definitely tons of lakefront to stretch out on. Aside from the established campgrounds there are a bunch of pullouts on Hells Canyon Road suitable for car camping. This is definitely a locals spot, and not really a destination. I think Wallowa Lake is more for the Portland tourists. But that said, it's easy to see how this is a really popular spot for party boats, water skiing, and simple lake-style recreation.

We reserved 2 nights at the Ridgeview campsite last minute. We are in no way camping experts much…read moreless own an RV (yet) but really wanted to check out the lake, campsites and the surrounding area. We read that this one had flush toilets and showers and we managed to reserve campsite #184 right near the facilities. We arrived a little after 1:00 and got set up right away. We went in the middle of the week right before Memorial Day so it wasn't full. Everyone had an RV and I only saw one other family tent camping. We bought the $5/bundle firewood which came with about 5 logs and it was enough for a few hours. I assume RV'ers bring their own! We hiked by the lake and the views are beautiful, there's even a little beach area. Pets are not allowed on the sand but you can bring them as long as they're leashed. The restroom/shower facilities were spotless but they close for cleaning from 1-2:30 daily. See my photos. Only 2 showers were open this time of the year, so it's best to go early in the evening. I ended up waiting about 15 minutes before a shower opened up. Unfortunately, it started raining in the middle of the night and the tent started leaking, so we cut our trip short and packed up at 0600. We only got to hang out for less than a day but it was still worth it to see the lake and scenic drive.
